  • I told my friends I'd vlog, so here it is!
Yes, my hair is wet and I'm in my PJs...
    Don't have a hairdryer yet!
A bit of an informative one on travelling to Niigata and the move-in orientation when you first get here.

Omgg I'll probably be there for fall semester and this video is amazing, I've been searching for informations but there was so little even in Japanese. Thank you and I hope you can continue this series!! I'd also like to learn about Niigata City, especially Ikarashi area since it's located a little bit far from city center. I wanted to study in inaka by my own choice but some of my friends will be in Tokyo and I feel a little bit jealous tbh,,, Any detail about living in a co-op housing, university itself, campus, city, lectures and professors, other exchange students, do's and don'ts in general is a gem information!! Ty again for this channel I hope it gets bigger and bigger

Thanks for the support!! I’ll make one about coop housing soon. Past week has been quite hectic settling in but it’s been fun! I think there’s a charm to living here in Ikarashi as opposed to Tokyo since it’s not an experience most people would get to live :P
To answer some of your questions briefly:
      - Coop housing is pretty nice here, but location is the most important thing to take into consideration. Try to be near the campus and a supermarket since you’ll be walking/cycling a lot. I’ll do an apartment tour of my own room soon and see if my friends are comfortable with me showing their rooms too 😆
      - Haven’t started uni yet but they’re very supportive with helping us do our official documents. Just went through a bunch yesterday and they drove us to and from the ward office which was really nice
      - City is a lot quieter than Tokyo but there are still shops for clothing and activities like karaoke. I haven’t been yet but planning to go on Thursday!
      - Other exchange students are all SUUUUPER nice! They gave me so much furniture hahahaha 😂 Feel free to send a dm when you come over and we can hang out
      - Do’s and don’ts: definitely bring some warm clothes and don’t come with the expectation that people can speak a lick of English 😆 Being in the countryside means that not a lot of people are fluent in English, but it’s a good way to get better at Japanese. Some of my friends are a lot better at Japanese than me so I ask them to walk around with me hehehe

@@wingpang296 ahh thank you so so much!! I'm waiting for NU to open applications for next semester, since my home university and NU have academic partnership, my advisor said there is so so little chance of NU rejecting me. but my arrival will depend on JASSO scholarship since I'm from a country with economic crisis. I'll absolutely write you when I arrive in Niigata, I'd like to hang out so much.

@@himawari6622 Best of luck!! I'm actually on the JASSO scholarship at the moment and I think it's mostly dependent on your grades. Fortunately Niigata is a lot cheaper than Tokyo to live in as well. Hope that everything works out for you ^^

@@wingpang296 Ah really?? I saw that JASSO doesn't have any requirements but I thought they would look into our grades and I have pretty high GPA so I have high hopes for the scholarship. Hearing this from you made me very happy

Just subscribed to your channel. I hope to get to Niigata University through our exchange program in the second semester of 2025. Looking forward to get a glimpse of what I can look forward to by watching your vlog. Greetings from Germany.

Thank you! I haven’t been uploading a lot since I’ve been living in the moment a lot hehe
I’ve met some people from Germany who are here right now! Maybe they’re senpais from your uni 😃

@@wingpang296 That would be funny. I'm studying at Ruhr-Uni Bochum. They could be from my Uni or from Hannover. I don't know about other Unis sending their students to Niigata.
I'd love to watch a campus tour and a tour through a typical dorm room and the whole dorm with shared areas.
Hopefully, you'll upload a new vlog soon. But yeah, most importantly enjoy your stay.

@@wingpang296 So your appartment isn't a dorm room? How could you rent an appartment? I'm asking since I've heard that foreign people can't just rent a place that easy. Now, I'm curious ^^

      @wingpang296  11 місяців тому +1

Ooh the apartments are owned by the University Student Co-Op I think, so they help us through the process before we even get to Niigata! :D It's super awesome since the uni handles rent as well as if there is anything wrong with the room/equipment.@@19gingerpale94

The orientation didn't just talk about rubbish sorting (it was only a few sentences haha, but not sure why that retained to most for me). It also went through:
    - What Niigata University Student Coop is
    - Documents needed
    - Do's and Don'ts when using the co-op apartments
    - Rental contracts, fees and how to pay rent
    - Emergency services/contacts
    - Orientation checklist (procedures we have to go through to get resident cards sorted out)
Might talk about this at a future date after we finish more of the checklist! :D

Thank you a lot for such an informative video. I am also planning to move to NU by the end of this month on a MEXT Scholarship but still struggling to make a co-op housing reservation...😢 Hope we can meet when I get there.

@@rumanya that sounds very troublesome -- make sure to contact their International Center for support! I think if you're on MEXT, you can also stay in their International House which is located n campus.

Thank you for this awesome video! It was so helpful 🤗 How did you choose your department with the co-op housing? They show you a map and characteristics, so you had total liberty to choose it? Please could you show more about it for us 🤗

Hello!! I'm glad that it was helpful :D
You're exactly right! We can filter by amenities available in the apartment, as well as price.
They have a map view of where all the apartments are as well :)
You can check out the second video to see where the shops are in comparison to the uni if you'd like! (I made a map on the end of the vid).
