The U.S. Should Step Back From Its Relationship With Israel

  • Israel believes America's special relationship is vital. It is, certainly, to Israel. But what about for the US? Israel has no oil, enemies in many places, and a tendency to defy Washington when it perceives its own interests to be threatened, which is not infrequently. In a zero sum Middle East, does America's coziness with Israel cost us in good will with Muslim world, including those oil-rich Arab states whose dollar holdings come back to the US in the form of investments and loans, which the US economy needs -- especially now? But there's an important connection between the US and Israel -- that goes deeper than finance or energy convenience. It's a foundation of mutual loyalty and shared values -- democracy being only the most obvious. There has also been a history of shared intelligence, military cooperation, and significant cross-fertilization of scientific knowledge. To sacrifice these connections to improve relations with the Arab world would be an act of betrayal - of an ally - and of what we say we stand for. Should the US consider putting some distance between itself and Israel? Would such a change in policy serve American interests, or is it a move we would come to regret?

Based on the amount of US Tax Dollars we Give to Israel, knowing how that same money should be used here... It is with-Out any Doubt this nation must cut off these funds.
I am also of the staunch belief that No sitting member of the US House, and Senate should hold a dual citizenship with Israel, or any other nation. The conflict of interest is obvious...

I totally agree with absolutely no member of Congress or senator or any political office holder should have dual citizenship with any Nation. However I feel the American tax dollars is spent better on Israel then most third world Nations that we give our money to even South America. As a matter of fact our government is so corrupt from top to bottom and in bed with corporate media and the one percenters that they do a better job of working against the American citizen instead of for the American citizen. The Democrats AKA leftist Marxist authoritarians are much more bigger problem then even the corruption. I would say Israel on our list things to fund or not to fund would be at the bottom and Far Far From The Top. Without our so-called special relationship Israel it would be wiped off the face of the Earth within a week. And that would cause a world crisis. Is that part of the world they are governed more with religion then reason. Israel being the exception

When I am out traveling in the area in which I live, there are hundreds of homeless people. There are beggars on the street corner. Our taxes are out of this world--very expensive to live. Why? i.e., over half of ones salary goes to taxes. This is wrong and hurtful that this country do not help it's own people.

And it doesn’t matter what Color you are because most of them everywhere are white men veterans.
I noticed this because I stop & help them where ever I see them & they hate that they had volunteered to fight in that malicious Vietnam war.
I have witnessed this in Chicago, San Jose, San Francisco, LA & Yes in the redwood BIG Basin mountains - who told me why they kept their military weapon.
And for some reason, the controllers have been setting the Redwoods on fire, so they could see what was going on underneath the trees.
But what really got my attention, is that Maui was destroyed by a mysterious fire - that has left thousands of families Homeless and the GOVERNMENT is doing absolutely nothing to help the survivors.
When Biden decided to visit that disaster - he had to wait until his Vacation was over. When He got there, He thought he was on the Big island - even though his advisers knew better.
      My Point:
Why is He financing world wars with our taxed money instead of taking care of the AMERICANS in this country ⁉️
He even left all weapons of mass destruction in Afghanistan, to guess who⁉️
While citizens were being killed for trying to leave.
None of this is hidden in the archives & for those who are paying attention to MAUI Right now, the Government is kicking the homeless families who were giving those families a room in the hotels.
They are more concerned with getting more tourists for taxes then they are for the citizens of their own counter.
Leaders Are Only Interested in Killing people all around this World - WHY⁉️⁉️⁉️

Thank you, UA-cam, for bringing this video back to our attention. One panelist said that Israel and the U.S. have the same values. What accords with our official values is a single state with equal rights for all, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity, a state we Americans would be free to talk about and criticize. A fascistic genocidal apartheid race-based theocracy that we are not allowed to criticize seems like the very antithesis of U.S. values, to me, unless the panelist is alluding to the worst values we have ever practiced. But if that is the case, does it make sense to idolize this dark side of ourselves and make war in its behalf?
Israel was given to us and the world by the British Empire, another Sacred Cow we are not allowed to criticize. This is the Empire that pioneered apartheid -- in South Africa and Rhodesia. This Empire invented the concentration camp -- in its war against the Boers. It used opium to destroy much of China. It invented "Total War" -- war against civilians. As part of its divide and conquer strategy, it created the Muslim Brotherhood -- of which Hamas is an offshoot. Our founders fought to free us from the clutches of this empire, but today, we are not allowed to criticize it, even in our thoughts -- because we are not allowed to see that we have become the successor to this very empire.

The reason Israel doesn't want US troops on the ground there is because they do not want them to see the truth that anyone has ever visited the West bank has saw in my opinion. i feel the more we help and or support Israel, the worse this situation will become. Israel has no boundaries nor wants any, and basically wants it all. The current bombardment of the Gaza strip is merely beachfront property for Israel in 10 yrs. They have little if any desire for peace, and continually prove this with their settlements. If Israel truly wanted peace, they would respect the boundaries established in their last military involvement. This current war is nothing more than another land grab

When I hear the term "special relationship" it makes me think of lovers or some kind of romantic involvement; a relationship based on honesty, mutual respect and mutual commitment to the welfare of the other. This is decidedly not the relationship The US has with Israel. Ours is a parental relationship and not one of the good ones where we guide and counsel a child, but rather one where the child is willful and disobedient and the parent does nothing, choosing instead to make excuses for the wayward child. There are those who hate Jews simply on the basis of their Jewiosity. I reject this philosophy, but I am also opposed to wayward children. Israel often cites the fact that it is a small country surrounded by larger unfriendly Arab countries, as though it thinks we have forgotten this fact. I would submit that it is in, fact, Israel that ignores this fact. It continually acts as if it were not and does so on the assumption that they can say whatever they want to the other kids, be as mean and disrespectful as they want, because Dad is standing right behind them. Our relationship with Israel encourages them to be bullies and discriminatory instead of recognizing the need and importance of accommodation and inclusion. Let us, by all means, cut the umbilical cord and push our fledgling from the nest. If it is to survive, if it is worthy of survival, it must demonstrate that on its own. I do not advocate being mean to Israel, but simply to stop feeling responsible for it. Israel should have more pride and come out from behind the skirt of the US and try to make it on its own.

@Goku Wow, if this isn't anti-Semitism I don't know what is. "They" need to be kicked out? But Syria, who has killed 500,000 of their own, and created a refugee population of over 5 million and growing gets to "stay"? Same with the dictatorial and despotic caliphates, emirates, military rulers, and sheikdoms that represent practically all of the Arab states;they get to "stay"? "They" need to learn to respect their neighbors? You mean the ones who have sworn their destruction, and have followed through on those depredations.
"No Resources"? You mean no natural resources? Israel's intellectual resources and other non-natural resources are the backbone of its economy, and is far more sustainable than those that rely solely on natural resources.

Eizenstat rambles on about how those countries around Israel have nothing in common with Israel and it's the special relationship with the US that makes the difference .
On point 1 Those countries around Israel have cultures thousand's of years old, and in the case of Iran called the cradle of civilization , these countries are the grand old men while Israel is a spoilt child with rich physcopathic parents .
On point 2 The special relationship with the US goes back to the slave trading day's when it was Jewish slave boats that brought the first and by no means the last of the African slaves to America every single ship but one was Jewish owned and operated . Right up to today where every single politician in Washington seeking re-election needs to fly to Israel as some kind of right of passage ! to say, without endorsing Israel is political suicide is not a "special relationship" Israel is the puppet master and while the string's are still attached to it's US politicians there will be more proxy wars more deaths more misery.

I was taught to pray for Israel which I did regularly as well as participate in Christian activities in an assembly under a the teaching of a dedicated pastor/teacher. I did this yet still I found my country becoming worse & worse. I did not know that when I did pray for them that what Israel or what they were doing with Palestine or what hand they had in our government & media nor the USS liberty scandal which happened under my nose while I prayed for them. IT seems strange that we who are Christians pray Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven only to go into a world more like Hell. When praying for the blessing of Israel that Israel was stabbing the US and other nations in the underbelly as well as their involvement in 9-11. If we reap a blessing in their blessing then why did they do that to us? That was no blessing? Are we waking up to something?

That proposition was 12 years ago , the guys advocating for the proposition had far vision , if it was followed that we would be much better of now , and yes they were right , I always thought the same way that if United States steps back a little at least when they do something wrong , because Israel consider United States as a God Father is supporting them with money and weapon and the emotional support , and troops if they want , Israel became like the spoiled child that he know that the father would back him up , yes after 12 years I support the proposition and I think if United States Steps Back a little when Israel does wrong , that might help , President Jimmy Carter was able to put parties together to Camp David agreement for peace and for preventing wars and saving lives of all parties , and that led to lot of peace in the area for a long time , Jimmy Carter acted the way that I expect the president of United States to act , very neutral and very fair and does not side any one , I am Egyptian America I chose America to be my country because I thought that it was the best country in the world when it come to Justice , Freedom , and Human Rights , many people in Egypt they think so and they want to come to America, even from all over the world , what I mean to say they are all expecting a lot of perfection from the best country in the world , and they expect it to be neutral and not taking side.
I enjoyed the video , and I agree with every word of the proposition , we have to face the Fact that Israel and Palestine are neighbors they share borders , both of them have to feel safe , because they are stock with each other , I agree with expression that they say it's Not Me or Him It's Me and Him , I hope to see the day that they they will have peace together , and the children from both sides would be friends together , and when they grow up they might marry together , I never thought that war would help but it would make both neighbors are afraid from each other and make them enemy to each other.
I wish we listened to the proposition 12 years ago , that could have saved a lot of lives.

That was a good debate, but in my opinion a weak performance by the opposing side. 2 things (at least) missed partially or completely:
    1. They failed to explain properly one of their very first points, which is that stepping back from the relationships with Israel will send a message of weakness and bring more demands.
One of the main reasons this is true is the mentality and the nature of the Middle East, with which we the Israeli are very familiar. The Arab world thinks quite different from you guys, who always appreciate openness and sacrifices. Israel has made many steps in that direction, some of them were successful (thanks to the influence of the US), and we're prepared for more steps. But the vast majority of them only brought us to more violence and more demands, as our steps were not appreciated and respected as we expected, but taken as pure weakness.
Following these examples you can only conclude that if and when the US government announces such a step-back, overnight you will see Arab countries taking steps directly opposing the expectations that it will be taken as respect and sacrifice, because they will only see weakness, and when they see weakness they exploit it immediately.
    2. Mr. Cohen is cheating logic here: He stated a few times that the step-back is (a) "thinking out of the box" and opposing it is (b) "more of the same". He also said that (c) the peace process is doomed and (d) the solution lies only through giving up land.
Israel's policy in the West Bank is far from perfect, and I've been there. It is not of course only our fault and responsibility. But let's not cheat logic: (a) is based on (b), which in turn is based on (c) and (d) together.
Now, (c) is an assumption which is yet to be seen so there's no point in making decisions like it's a fact. I personally believe there is a chance for peace, simply because everyone agrees that the situation cannot continue.
    (d) is just wrong: Giving up land has proven useless again and again, not to mention the proposals in the last 15 years that "no one knows" why they were turned down (Hamas threats towards Palestinian leaders?).
That means that it's not really "thinking out of the box" (a), it's actually "more of the same" (b). Desperate sacrifices assuming all is lost, giving up land, pressure on Israel are all more of the same. Out of the box would be pressure on Hamas for example, or proposing a not-Islamic-only state like Israel is not-Jewish-only, like someone said.

    • @GeneMarin
      @GeneMarin 3 роки тому +1

@@nomorewar4189 First of all - wow, I don't even remember it but can't believe how right I was 6 years ago, as it's been perfectly demonstrated by the Trump administration: Officially recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moving the embassy there, officially recognizing the Golan heights as part of Israel, freezing aid to the PLO - all steps that were certain to ignite the region and drive the Arab world completely bzrk, supposedly. Yet the OPPOSITE happened: Peace deal after peace deal. "Thinking out of the box" right there.
Furthermore, it's been a consensus that the Palestinian issue is the number one concern in the Arab world. Nope, not even close. Just the latest examples how the west just doesn't understand the Middle East politically nor culturally.
As to your question: I'm not sure if you imply that the rockets into Israel are an Israeli conspiracy or genuinely don't get how a simple rocket like Qassam can be produced from simple materials, some smuggled but mostly legal.

Truely for America to remain strong it is advantage for it to be globaly neural and for it to be more vigilent and impartial in its global jugement it should step back on its special relation with Israel or neither any other country.

As far as US sovereignty is concerned, it has a great policy but foreign policies are very weak.
Overall the debate which is being taking place is good and in a right direction, I think US should not have special relationship with Israel, there shall be uniform relationship with rest of the world.

First off, I'm a dedicated supporter of Israel and their right to exist. That does NOT mean, however, they should be beyond review and criticism. I totally agree that we have given Israel way too much assistance and support. They are more than rich and powerful enough to absorb the loss of US taxpayer dollars. That doesn't mean we should abandon them diplomatically or suspend all assistance. The question is one of balance.

I think this was one of the best debates so far in terms of the quality of the panelists, but judging purely from how well they argued I would say the side arguing against the motion did much better. They had more and better facts, and they stayed on topic more specifically, I think much of the undecided portion already had strong sympathies for the motion and were not won over by debate alone.

Btw I hate the accusations of racism or anti-semitism when someone argues for something that minority groups don't agree with, even when the person is a part of that group. I'm sure the British Jewish guy sincerely believes that what he is saying is in the ultimate interest of Jews in Israel, and I'm glad that these notions did not come from the side arguing against.

We jews don`t need any excuses to justify our right to exist, to have the same national rights as other people got. The reasoning behind "unclechrist`s" & other indifferently anti-jewish people here is immoral as well as fundamentally flawed.
This conflict is NOT religiously based, it`s the height of ignorance to claim so !
This conflict is about geopolitics, history, morals and international law, which the League of Nations recognized at the San Remo conference in 1918-19, recognizing my jewish nation`s (am Yisrael) right to a national home in the formerly turkish occupied province of "palestine", british mandate area -that`s Israel, as well as our right to life, pursuit of happiness and national self defense there, as stipulated by a majority of members of the U.N.S.C.O.P. & U.N.general assembly in 1947 !!

Yes, the kurds got the same rights to a homeland of their own as we jews do have ... -we acknowledge that, but will Syria, Iran and Turkey agree to give the kurdish people their due national rights ?? -I don`t think so !!
-Granted, the national rights of the kurds are not regulated by international law /conventions as ours are, but morally they SHOULD be.

It's interesting how few of the opinions herein are balanced. Every comment below is a lop-sided, out-of-context oversimplification.. How many Israel-haters on this post have spoken out against Iraq, Syria and others for their treatment of the Kurds? When Muslims are mistreated or killed by other Muslims, nobody speaks out. Opposing religious entities will always be at odds because they are fundamentally opposed to each other's claim to being God's chosen..

It's interesting how you seem to have just noticed for the first time that opinions expressed on the internet are not usually balanced, congrats! It is also interesting how you seem to set a precedent that if one wants to criticize Israel, they must also criticize the red herrings you listed, or else their credibility comes into question for some reason.

jlawrence It's not a pass at all. The comment was directed at you -- the sophisticated narcissists who talk and talk and talk, but never do anything. All they have to offer the world is more bitter divisiveness. If you were a TRUE defender of human rights, your actions would be more homogeneous. What I'm truly curious about, is if you (collectively) know that your malignant rhetoric creates more division and moves us away from peaceful solutions and are just projecting your smug self-righteousness, or, if your completely ignorant of your herd-like tendency to move with the masses?

There are very good reasons why U.S. supports Israel -- economic, strategic and ideological etc. And while we can discuss the appropriate level of support and how the U.S. would best benefit from the relationship, these discussions are difficult to hold because of conspiracy nuts and religious fanatics -- as so many of the posts here illustrate.
