- If you're looking at the thumbnail and are jealous that I can reach a D major tenth, don't be. My hand is breaking the tenth and is in motion, I wish I could reach that bastard.

Funny seeing someone waltz a rag. I'm always swinging Chopin Mazurkas or such stuff but never think to do the opposite. Sounds great though. Still had the ragtime feel as do Scott Joplins ragtime waltzes
Thanks! It's a lot of fun to mess with tunes like this, swinging classical is also something I like to do!
Enjoyable!
Thanks!
Of all your videos, I've enjoyed this one the most.
Thanks!
This is great! Never thought I would hear The Entertainer in a waltz style and I don't know if I can ever go back to listening to it in 2/4! Great stuff!
Haha thanks! It's a lot of fun to waltz rags!
You waltzed over ragtime and I am having this feeling I can't understand.
xD An indescribable peculiar sensation?
Love these videos shot from above! Better than synthesia ngl 😄
Completely agreed!
Now if I had the midi reading strip in the piano I could overlay synthesia above the keys :D
EYY fabulous work my man! Smooth arpeggio's. :) I gotta be more online soonish... ;-;
Thanks Pjotr! The arpeggios carry this one :D
It lends itself very well to this waltz format. I especially like what you did with the final strain. :)
Thanks Luca! I really appreciate that, maybe you would waltz a rag sometime :D I bet you could do a real number on a tune with this treatment!
@@PiotrBarcz And I just might…
@@LucaRagtime And I just might be waiting for it ;)
This is really cool, I love how rhythmically precise your arpeggios are! I need to practice lol!
Yeah the arpeggios are something that I need to work on too XD I can usually hammer them alright because I have a rather pointed attack at the keys when doing fast runs. However when I do really long arpeggios I can get lost, it's hard to do them rhythmically as opposed to just hitting a million notes and speeding up or slowing down if I run out of room!
Fantastic Piotr. I love changing the format of tunes like this. It works well as a waltz. Great fun and fascinating to listen to. I struggle to reach the larger 10ths too and agree it's so annoying :)
Yeah, I'm going to be investing in a smaller scale keyboard for a grand piano at some point so at least on one instrument I'll be able to give the tenths a real run for their money!
Yes it's a great sound. I find it amazing how Art Tatum used to play 10ths with an extra two notes in the middle. I read that some pianists in the old days used to have the webbing removed between the thumb and the index finger to increase their span. I wouldn't go that far so perhaps a scaled down keyboard is the best way to go! All the best.... Marty :)
@@martycli9299 Yeah Art did indeed use 4 note tenths which is interesting. It's actually not too difficult to do so, so long as the keys lie under the fingers.
Removing the webbing between the thumb and index finger might help somewhat but that skin can also be worked out to be more elastic through stretching exercises. That's how I managed to get a 180 degree spread.
I barely dare to ask, but can you maybe play something like Elephant tracks or frisky fingers? I'm pretty sure I have seen you play spasmodic in a 'recent' video and this entertaing waltz sounds amazing!
Spasmodic is easy compared to pretty much all of Tom's other tunes xD I don't think I'll ever be able to play Frisky Fingers despite my best efforts, Elephant Tracks is just too weird for me in general.
Very "entertaining" indeed. Those runs are so fast!
They're deceptively easy ;) Three fingers, down the scale or up the scale but they're a simple way to make things look hard hahaha!
Glad you enjoyed it!
