This is a video I wanted to make about the first Lego movie. It ended up being one of my favorite animated movies of all time back when it came out, so in this video, I talk about why the Lego movie worked so well and why I love it!

This is a video I've been meaning to make for a while, so it's appropriate that I put it out when The Lego Movie 2 is out! My review of that movie will be the next video.

The Lego movie to my teaches of free will. The free will to say what you want. The free will to do what you want. The free will to build whatever you want.

I think LEGO Movie is product placement done right. There’s so much love: from all the real pieces to how the pieces move...it’s gorgeous. The story is unique too. We take the “prophecy” bit and make it to be a bit more. Anyone can be special. And the creativity of the son influencing the father is cool too. It was a surprise and I hope the second one will be as well.

From reviews, I hear there's not really a moment as profound as that, but you can still expect a good time.

The Lego Movie's product placement was subtle in the way that it doesn't outright say "look how fun Legos are!" It shows the things you can do, but it treats the product placement as just a setting. The story overshadows the product placement

The Lego Movie was a highlight of 2014 for me, and it fully represents what Legos truly are.

The Lego Movie has a lot of themes that work together, and I like it.
One theme is that individuality can and should be expressed with creativity, and that conformity is like being glued in place.
Another theme is that anyone can be special. Virtruvius' prophecy is a special kind: it's called a self-fulfilling prophecy. When Emmet believes he is a prophecized chosen one, he manages to bring the master builders together and really shine. Even though Virtruvius made it up, and anyone who believed it could do it. This is part of why Emmet as an everyman works - he's the perfect character to show that anyone can be important. Anyone can be special.
We also have the theme of family reconciliation. In both the movies, there's a correlation between the people and characters who represent them. Emmet and the main lego characters represent Finn, Lord Business represents the dad (wanting to make the lego world an unchangeable setup, and in Lego Movie 2 deciding to be absent and leave it to the others.) and the Systar System is Finn's younger sister. The relationships between the characters are a reflection of the ones between the people. Emmet appealing to Business's humanity to convince him not to instill perfectionist conformity represents Finn convincing his dad to not glue the legos by showing him how much fun he can have and the creativity he can express with the big lego set. Finn realizing his sister just wanted to play with him was represented by Wyldestyle learning that the Systar System wasn't actually out to destroy them, they wanted to be friends. Despite their little screen time, the overarching family themes are present.

My take on what it's about? Well, it comes down to what I believe to be the movie's mission statement, one stated by Emmett to Lord Business. When you combine unbridled creativity with the planning and teamwork, anything is possible. It just sometimes needs that one person (the special) to get the ball rolling, and that might be you.
And the best part? This movie is living proof of that.

I also like how every time i watch it i still notice something different in the background
Like how i literally just noticed that why Emmet said OUCH! when he broke through the gate with the pigs is not because of the fence, but because Vitruvius landed on top of him

  • @SonofMrPeanut

It really is one of the definitive movies of the 2010s. It captures the toy's own spirit of creativity, and that spirit extends to multiple other projects in the early 2010s that on paper seem like they shouldn't work as well as they do. MLP: FiM, Mystery Inc., Guardians of the Galaxy and, of course, this. It shows that by putting all the right people in the room, in most cases regardless of the project, magic can happen.
I want to see an entire generation of filmmakers (and other kinds of artists) cite this movie as a major inspiration.

    • @SonofMrPeanut
      @SonofMrPeanut 5 років тому +2

On the other hand, The Emoji Movie (and Playmobil as stated in the video) demonstrates what the late-2010s have been about: Hollywood learning all the wrong lessons from the first half of the decade (and by extension this movie). They wanted to accomplish the how without looking into why it worked.

When I saw advertisements for the Lego movie I'm like don't really care if it's bad I am going to go watch this just because I grew up with it. But then I watched it. I absolutely love that movie. I especially enjoy re-watching to catch all the small details. I especially appreciate that you can tell the director has a love and nostalgia for Legos.

When Emmet arrives in the real world, he lands inside a basement under a house and sees a child that was playing the imagination of The Lego Movie this whole time after falling from the magic portal from the Lego World he came from until he sees the man upstairs that wants to interrupt the boys playtime that ruined his father’s Lego setups.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller (aka the people who made TLM) would soon create Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse as well as before both those films also came Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs as well. And Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse has over one thousand people working on it with around 260 characters to be in the film along with a follow up film after much like Infinity War and Endgame.
    These two men are legends.

How cool would it be to have a Kirby movie by Lord and Miller. Especially if it’s at Warner Animation Group. Considering Warner Bros owns Nightmare on Elm Street they could easily have Freddy Krueger appear either as a cameo where Kirby kills him or even as the main villain if Nintendo, HAL and Warner Bros approves of the idea.

So when I first saw the movie, I didn't know what to make of it. It was just a bit too crazy or something, or I was hoping we'd spend more time in each world, I'm really not sure what it was about it, but I wasn't as in love with it as everyone else. My parents still hadn't seen the movie until months later, when we went to the second run cheap theater to see it, the sound was a bit low quality and the image was on the brink of being blurry, but I ended up loving the movie. It's so weird how that happened. Then I was given the blu-ray for my birthday and it was fantastic. A similar thing happened when I saw Spider-Verse the first time, too. I didn't really gel with it after the first watch, but it was given to me after its home release and everything clicked, and now I see it for the masterpiece that it is, too. So maybe it's just Lord & Miller's work. I don't even remember having too great of expectations for either of those movies, but it just took me second tries to get what they had to offer. Pretty weird.

No, there are tons of creator sets as well as boxes with just a variety of bricks. Even in the Lego stores that are in malls, you can choose what bricks you want to buy if you have an idea for something.

Everything is LEGO. When the LEGO Batman movie was announced I was really excited well I do like Batman and then when I watch it with my mom my dad it was really great it had the same animation as the LEGO movie well here’s the problem the water the smoke we’re not LEGO that’s the only problem I had with this movie but it’s almost better than the LEGO movie.

Yea I was disappointed but the lego movie 2 game is hot hot garbage for some reason wild style wasn't taken like it makes no sense and the ending basically sucked it legit just said "yeah Rex is going to be the Villain and well just make him disappear without the sad scene of him in the actual movie" and also there's a lot of sections not even related to the game, i remember in the first game instead of having a key character in the first part of the first game it had gale the regular construction worker And basically was really trying its best to be as similar as possible and it worked!
So what I'm stating is that the lego movie 2 and the lego movie 2 game are garbage the first game and movie were a lot better
