You can always tell which videos are directed by Tyler Falbo. I love that you guys work with him. I've been a fan of his for years and he's how I found this channel. His ability to emulate hyper-specific sensations and characters and scenarios is unbelievable. I loved Immoral Compass because it was such a well done extension of his prior body of work on UA-cam, like Free Installations. Combining his ideas and vision with the Almost Friday cast seems like a no-brainer. I cant imagine any other pairing would be able to make this kind of stuff. edit: After writing this I realized I didnt give credit to Will's incredible writing and performance. Nobody else couldve played this character in this way. For the conceit, it was perfectly done.
For some reason this is the only sketch I suspected Tyler didn't direct, like maybe Will did instead (before seeing the credits). Maybe because it's so unique and Will-core. Absolutely fucking incredible, this one's really special.
Fringe guy doesn't want the world to see him 'Cause he doesn't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken He just wants you to know who he is.
Idk. They’re depicting the character as a dangerous psycho. The fringe guy from the first skit I could help, but this guy is what the least compassionate people on his receiving end think of him. A fundamentally broken freak who’s a danger to everyone and himself. Because he’s socially awkward
@@KUWAITGRIPSVEVO I mean what has he done that would make him in any way "dangerous"? At every step when he became aware that he was making people uncomfortable he immediately stopped what he was doing and tried to deescalate and explain. The most apt thing I suppose would be the teeth pulling, but in doing so he was causing only harm to himself, and every time decided not to actually go through with sending the package to Jessica, and it's possible he never did so because he realized that it was too far. I understand that you likely mean that the other people in the skit are the ones viewing him as dangerous and a psycho, but it should be clear to the audience that he really isn't. I feel like it really wouldn't be all that hard to "fix" him, as it simply seems like he tries too hard in his interactions with other people, and his struggles in doing so would likely further cause him to try harder. I also should note I interpreted the ending as him planning on killing himself rather than his roommate and Jessica. Take for example his interaction with the barista. When he was interacting normally she was into it and was willing to go to a party with him. I believe that once he realized that she was "interested" one of two things happened. Either he felt as though he was in a relatively safe environment to "be himself," or he thought that amping up his speech would further her interest in him and was a good idea. Once he does so the Barista becomes suddenly disinterested. As the audience you can recognize that these things tend to happen once he speaks in the way that he had, but to him he likely viewed it as either "Nobody wants to talk/interact with me. Nobody likes me." or "Once I act true to myself nobody wants to talk or interact with me and nobody likes me." I think it's simply an issue of him trying too hard in his interactions with other people with the belief that doing so will be good for those interactions. Once doing so fails, he likely views it as he needs to try even harder next time. It's possible he doesn't recognize that his issue is with him trying as hard as he does, so doesn't recognize that he should be lessening it rather than raising it. I think that "fixing him" could be as simple as making him aware that people dislike when he speaks in that way, though there is the other solution of him finding a friend or friend group that is okay with him interacting in that way. I think in either case you could see a diminishment in his more "problematic" mannerisms and speech, and thus a more successful social life.
I’m autistic and so much of this hits home for me. I used to talk in a much different way when I was younger, kind of doing “bits” all the time. I did get bullied and I did end up changing how I expressed myself. Ultimately I’m doing better now but so many things could have gone different if people understood what was going on back then
I have ADHD and probably some form of autism and I feel similarly. The worst thing is that I catch myself feeling proud that I learned to mask so well. I wish we never had to feel ashamed of ourselves to begin with.
I like how the sketch starts off with bright colours and over time as Fringe guy devolves into isolation the environment changes conveying his deterioration and his grim view on life.
Liam goes in to the fridge to grab beer, the beer that William bought, and either doesn’t give a shit that William is there or it’s some deep realm for William… too funny
the tiny moments of who he really is comes out with the blank expressions. Its a fantastic showcase of what its like to be horribly depressed but keeping up with the persona everything is fine. You find really good acting in the weirdest places.
Nice Seinfeld reference, where folks at the store see George taking back his tip as if he’s stealing from the tip jar. Almost missed it because of how depressed this video made me feel
man usually even your darker sketches have some form of comedy to them but this really was just watching a man reach the lowest point life could possibly take him to and then the video ends
I seriously thought they would kick it off and he'd finally replace "Jessica", then he did the impression (and the tip thing) and my stomach just dropped.
I fumbled that hard once. The guy was cute, tall, funny, and I barely ever saw him except at the grocery store. One day we actually got to chatting and I made some stupid edgy humor joke and he looked at me and said “That kinda thing isn’t funny to me.” I haven’t gone in that grocery store since
do you know what's funny? i've seen people way worse, miles upon fucking miles worse than whatever it is that has been shown in the vid, or whatever it is that any of you mentioned. i've witnessed adult 20smth boys FARTING (swear to god like literally ong FARTING OPENLY) due to being nervous, AND acting extremely cringe on top of that. guess who was still able to score? THESE MFERS. the most liberating experiences of my life. 1 people underestimate the power of pity 2 people underestimate the power of cuteness (YES YES even in men; esp young men) 3 some people think too much, in general. the most confident guys are often those who have absolutely nothing to lose. and confidence, any confidence, is attractive. just as much as deliberate shyness, if it doesn't look sickly. fringe guys' friends weren't treating him awfully bc he was "weak". they're just trash to begin with, it's in their nature. they treat others just as bad (clearly using jessica, killing someone's pet = > realising it was probably someone's pet and not giving a fuck); they just hide it better w those who might fight back i.e. literally fuck them up. other than that, believe me, people like this are two-faced twats in their actions regardless of how "strong" you are. they might be sneaky abt fucking you over, they might be open abt it - but they will fuck you over one way or another. that's what lack of morals or principles does to a mfer
Love the Seinfeld mention, and then the nod to when George removes his own tip so he can "get credit" and be seen when putting it in the tip jar, making it look like he stole it
The passing whimper at 8:48 when he tells his roommate to go have sex with the girl he literally just pulled his teeth out over (I imagine so he could feel SOMETHING) is the part that stuck out to me the most and makes me want to cry myself. And his roommate either doesn't care, or is wanting to hurt this guy as deeply as possible.
Can't help but feel this is pretty personal. Hyperbolized, maybe, but Will seems to have that sort of recovered weird kid energy where it metabolizes into a charming quirkiness. I was almost expecting a scene at the end where it's kid Fringe Guy in first grade doing something like this, making the whole class crack up, and smiling as he thinks he finally figured out this whole socializing thing.
Alternate ending idea- He takes the gun angrily, the camera tracks him as he leaves the room and closes the door behind him, you hear his roommate "hey woah, what are you doing with that gun?" then a long long pause "oh an assassin has come! A sneak thief in the night with murderous intent!"
@@williamcampbell9859 If it ended that way, and I said in the comments he should of grabbed the gun as it fades to black you'd probably say the same thing. No I'm not implying it's because my ending idea is so amazing, I'm implying you would of said that no matter what.
The scene where the delivery guy tells Fringe Guy to “just stop” and he responds “stop what??” is so revealing. Up to this point, I was wondering why Fringe Guy doesn’t just stop with the awkward outbursts - he seems like a nice and chill guy who people would otherwise like, so it seems like the obvious first step. For example, the barista seemed interested in going to his party until he did his weird bit. But when he asks the delivery guy “stop what??”, it indicates that he has such low self awareness that it may not have fully occurred to him that the bits he (seemingly compulsively) performs are the #1 thing causing others to avoid him and preventing others from truly connecting with him. But that also makes me reflect - is it really so bad that he does these awkward/silly bits?? Why should he have to conform his personality and communication style to others just to be really seen, or to experience meaningful connection with others? To be fair, on some level I think his outbursts communicate on an implicit level to people that ‘this guy is not on the same page as me, and is not reading the situation properly’ which causes them to quickly retreat. For example, take the guy who needs help for his pregnant wife. He’s in a serious emergency situation and is trying to get help from a kind stranger, but he’s immediately put off by Fringe Guy’s weird bit because it’s not appropriate for the situation at hand, which makes the man question whether Fringe Guy is a safe or trustworthy person since he apparently can’t read the room well enough to not joke around with two people who are in crisis. But, Fringe Guy isn’t a bad guy. He cares enough to buy his roommates beer and give them condoms, and he cares enough to try and help these strangers get to the hospital, but he’s tormented by his inability to really connect with others, although he never stops trying, which I really respect and admire. I hope Fringe Guy finds a true friend soon and comes to understand that he doesn’t have to accept the shitty treatment from others. For me, this video forces me to look at the assumptions I’ve made about people in the past, question whether those judgments were fair, and be conscious of the ways my (even micro-) interactions contribute to a real person’s lived experience. At our core, we all crave meaningful human connection and to be truly seen and appreciated. Fantastic work!
Wrong entirely…if you ever meet one of these..nerd or creep whatever u want 2 call it. In real life u will realize it’s a disgusting and annoying choice they r making.
when he said "i didn't mean to do that" to the guy at the convenience store, it made me think he has a form of Tourettes where the bits just fall out of him involuntarily
You ever watch a video that just makes you cringe at every moment you’ve done something similar, forces you to see the way you prostrate yourself just for the possibility of connection, only for the cold punctuation of the black screen reminding you of who you are?
Okay but his "friends" sucked. If this was relatable, I'd say try out some group events and meet some new people! Go volunteer at a local soup kitchen or church event, it's really rewarding. There are good people out there who will appreciate you, MY LIEGE.
There are so many little details that elevate this sketch. At 4:50 the woman in labor stops groaning when she hears fringe guys response. Partly to isolate how cringy his response was but it also shows she’s so uncomfortable by his response she can’t even focus on labor. At 5:02 screams in the car, but he immediately regains his composure and uses a turn signal shortly after. The timing of the turn signal is both comedic and character revealing. Even in extreme moments of frustration, he is thoughtful and trying to please those around him. Many others might speed off, swerve or only focus on themselves.
this must genuinely be one of the most upsetting things I've seen, it's been on my mind since I first saw it and I have made no progress in understanding why it makes me feel so harrowed
Because it’s an experience that’s easily relatable for many people. I’d also say it’s jarring as you can look at the other things they make and laugh your ass off but this has no punch line
I keep coming back but I don’t want to watch it again. I think of it like every week a few times i seriously consider this one of the most dark things I’ve ever seen.
I love that Will and Eilise have the same weird character The juxtaposition of their approach to it is so similar but different in the entertainment factor
This gave me the same feeling as a Nat Geo doc where the narrator tells you a crocodile is going to eat a gazelle, but you still let yourself kinda believe the gazelle might get away right up until it’s brutally and efficiently ripped in half and dragged under water.
I've never wanted to reach out and be a friend so much in my life...like, fuck, he just needs one person who won't shit on him... Great job on this one...I'm going to go get blackout drunk and cry.
This is an absolute masterpiece. I actually had to look away when he pulled his molar out and barely even reacted. Will took Fringe Guy (the bit) and turned him into a real person with real life struggle, with really only a few lines. Kudos from someone who’s been with you since the beginning. Super excited for your future.
genuinely one of my all time favorite videos - never have I seen anything that gives profound sense of not fitting in and just not getting why, so much relentless optimism in spite of it
@@cycy8699 first, he goes back to his room and puts the gun back, then he packs up and moves away overnight. Lives out of his car for the most bit, driving across California. Ends up in one place, and he does his cringey old timey bit, but this time someone plays along. Start hanging out, and he’s just talking life with the other guy. Asks him “was it always so hard for you?” And the guy just says “no, I just kept loving the people who loved me for me”. The guy introduces him to a girl named Jessica. He starts to relax into himself with her, it’s not always roses. He cries a lot, gets mad, but she is still there. They vacation in LA, run into the old roommate. The roommate starts the old pattern, and fringe guy just cuts him off says nice to see you, and goes back into his cringe bit with new Jessica. The roommate who’s the POV just backs away and fringe guy and new Jessica just keep living their lives
"And then he lived happily ever after." would entirely ruin the punch of the sketch tho? This hits as hard as it does BECAUSE there isn't a happy ending.

This is the best video you guys have made since trapped. How do you create such a bizarrely unique sense of dread, horror, humour and realism? You boys have some insane talent
This was actually really beautiful. I like the layers, the longing for connection but really not knowing how to connect. Hiding sadness behind comedy or playing a character. And how the the silence, emptyness and loneliness in this poor man's life is reflected in his surroundings: no friends, no girlfriend, but also no radio in the car, no stuff in his room, no light in his house or life. The link to social anxieties and/or psychological disorder. Chekhov's gun in the drawer and the playing cards was a nice "joke" from an expectations perspective. It's great acting, but also great filming and scenario work in my opinion. Two things: 1. if this is you, or if this resonates with you, look around and find help. That hasn't have to be "professional" help, but confiding in someone that things aren't going so great and/or finding something to occupy your mind can really make a big difference. Funnily enough you even see it in the sketch: "wait, I wasn't in the kitchen", for a second this takes up the whole attention span of the main character, so much so that he drops character and lives in the moment. This can also be achieved without losing, risking to lose, your best friend in the world. Try running for an hour straight, do pushups until you can't anymore, write a poem, make art and set it on fire. Anything that takes your mind of where you were at. There's always light somewhere, even if it's hard to see. Some random dude from the Netherlands on the internet believes in you and thinks you can do this. Keep going! 2. I really hope you guys at Almost Friday TV get picked up for "bigger" productions. I think you absolutely deserve it.
I love the reflection of the protagonist's solitude and isolation in his pet mouse. As every pet mice enjoyer can tell you, you can't just keep them lonely in a cage. They'll turn crazy and die of loneliness, if you do. Idk i think its a neat little detail and a sweet fact about pet keeping and our need of company 🐀
It’s definitely the weird dread of how truly relatable this skit is. Most people have experienced something similar to this in their life while others have experienced it currently and for a long time.
These guys truly need to make a feature-length movie. This kind of content is what I'd expect from Hollywood! You can tell this gripping story was made with thought put into it unlike what slop is being put into the cinemas nowadays.
I was this guy a looong time ago. It really is society that’ll “whip you into shape.” But it’s just practice, self awareness, and making sure you never lose love for yourself. That last bit is always the hardest part.

guys. the tooth thing is a metaphor. he rips his teeth out and places them in the envelopes, which contain his true feelings and thoughts. His attempts to express his true feelings and establish genuine connections with others feel like "pulling teeth" because of how hard it is.
🤓
Also the harder it is to communicate without teeth, so the harder he tries the less effectively he is able to communicate with others. idk jus spitballing
I always took it as a self flagellating action, like he is doing this as a form of self harm for his self aware flaws that he can't change despite wanting to. But your interpretation makes way more sense and I feel foolish for not getting that earlier lmao
his own suffering is all that he sees in himself that is worthy of other people's attention, that's why he is so willing to do stuff that his roommate asks him to do
You can always tell which videos are directed by Tyler Falbo.
The thing that frightened me most about this video was the complete lack of an acoustic cover of an early 2000s pop song added for dramatic effect
Fringe guy doesn't want the world to see him
'Cause he doesn't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
He just wants you to know who he is.
it's like watching a pigeon with a broken wing. i feel really bad for it, but im not qualified to help.
It's especially heartbreaking when you've healed from a broken wing yourself.
This is extremely accurate wow you’re well spoken
Nobody likes me." or "Once I act true to myself nobody wants to talk or interact with me and nobody likes me."
I think it's simply an issue of him trying too hard in his interactions with other people with the belief that doing so will be good for those interactions. I think in either case you could see a diminishment in his more "problematic" mannerisms and speech, and thus a more successful social life.

do you know what's funny? i've seen people way worse, miles upon fucking miles worse than whatever it is that has been shown in the vid, or whatever it is that any of you mentioned. i've witnessed adult 20smth boys FARTING (swear to god like literally ong FARTING OPENLY) due to being nervous, AND acting extremely cringe on top of that. guess who was still able to score?
Love the Seinfeld mention, and then the nod to when George removes his own tip so he can "get credit" and be seen when putting it in the tip jar, making it look like he stole it
Eagle eyes! Thank you
The passing whimper at 8:48 when he tells his roommate to go have sex with the girl he literally just pulled his teeth out over (I imagine so he could feel SOMETHING) is the part that stuck out to me the most and makes me want to cry myself. @@Dangerpurple would have*. Another reason you don't write for them
The scene where the delivery guy tells Fringe Guy to “just stop” and he responds “stop what??” is so revealing.

AF tv going from tiktiok to sketch comedy to full on short movies about depression and isolation. This shit deserves some sort of award.

Oh god the coffe shop part killed me
This was actually really beautiful.
Two things:
1. if this is you, or if this resonates with you, look around and find help.
