My theory is that Carson actually is innocent and it was Ray Buckley who killed Jessica. At 04:15 when the murder is depicted you can clearly see it is the same hat Ray is wearing during his interview at 05:43. This would also make his statement that he would have seen Carson go through Briar cliffs mean he was attempting to pin the murder on Carson. The reason for this might have been that after Carson had set such a high reputation for the Pinecone race in previous years, Ray could not take losing anymore and wanted to eliminate him from future competitions by making everyone think he cheated. This doesn't take into account all the blood on Carson's shirt at the end of the race but either way I thought it was a fun theory.
However that doesn’t account for why people said he went by the river when the sap station 14 lady Annabelle Buckley said she never saw him. Unless they were in cahoots on framing Carson 🤔
Carson could only run through Abner farm if he was a family member, that’s why he was pressuring Jessica to get married before the race.
