This is a phenomenal tutorial, because it's simple, to the point, fast, and thorough. I just bought a Z5 and I'm pretty overwhelmed. Only 15 minutes into this and I actually feel much better. Gotta go now because that Subscribe button is calling my name. Cheers and THANK YOU!!
This was a fantastic overview! I just took the Z5 out of the box and your video was the first one I found, and now I feel a little less overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing!
Really really helpful! I’ve just got one of these, second hand, to return to photography as a hobby after many years, and was feeling a bit daunted! Now your information here has made starting off with this camera much easier! Being female, I find so many other (male!)camera demos are excellent too, but perhaps naturally don’t seem to consider including vital aspects like the handling of the camera, etc, as well as all the tech!!
So nice. Very good. Thanks for having your hands and nails look so pretty. It allowed me to focus on the camera and what you were saying over being grossed out by a need for grooming. Your presentation and voice are very nice.
Thank you for this concise walkthrough. It’s very useful after going thru the reviews. As a hobby photographer I was wanting to find out if this is the one to get. After this video, I’m convinced that this is the one. I’m upgrading from D7000, which I sold after nearly 11 years. I used the kit lens and a 50mm prime. I felt it was time to go FX with a Mirrorless, but I was having a very tight budget. I was worried about the 4 frames per second but i just checked my photos in FB albums and realised that hi speed shooting was not a necessity. In fact I used a DX7590, 2 decade’s ago at a GT race, Globetrotters game, ATP games, and an F1 event and I did manage to get action shots! So this FPS should be a just fine. Always wanted a separate AF-on button. The 3 user programmable custom shooting modes is 1 additional compared to my D7000, in which I always missed an additional custom shooting option! Seeing the buttons and switches mostly on the right is absolutely great. I’m right handed, since during some shoots I’m holding my balance with my left hand. Also, when you mentioned it’s a good grip, I’m certain it’ll be great fit in mine too since I used the D7000 with the battery pack because my little finger was left hanging on it. Thank you once again.
Nikon's have a way of punching way above their weight class. Me and my girl we both bought compact mirrorless full frames. I got the Z5 and she got the A7C. While almost costing twice as much as my Nikon, at least where we live, when we went out for some landscape photography, the Z5 quite surprisingly stood toe to toe and even outclassed the A7C in some aspects. I was overjoyed and she was plain jealous. Plus I feel the Z5 is better built and feels more natural and ergonomic compared to the A7C, not to mention perks like a superior EVF, superior IBIS & weather sealing and 2xUHS-II slots. It was to a point where she asked me If I wanted to swap camera's with her and I said 'FUCK NO!'. We are getting married, so yeah, I had to swap cameras. The Auto Focus on this A7C is great though.
@@mousam.mondal its working alright...but i am yet to have children and have almost zero experience in photographing children in motion i.e while they are at play. As for low light, the auto focus does struggle a bit and at 4.5 fps the hit rate is pretty low.
Ah yes, repeating the same story all over the place makes it very believable. 😂You're as bad as the Sony fanboys. Fact is, all these new camera bodies are capable. What will set them apart is not IQ.
Was going crazy trying to figure out the options and couldnt find any videos on it and then came across this and DAMN. Thank you SO MUCH!!! I was feeling overwhelmed with all the buttons as its my first camera ever and now i feel i have a handle on at least what is what. I would love to understand a bit more about metering if you dont mind. I saw where you pointed to the options, but not sure i understand the setting options. Thanks!
So happy you found my video helpful! On my camera basics playlist, you can find a video to metering (also here : ua-cam.com/video/XZyK7Yp0Wpo/v-deo.html ) please let me know if you have any questions!
thank you for creating and sharing such a fantastic introduction to, and overview of, the Z5 - your video was a very helpful! A perfect Goldilocks of information; not too much, not too little - just right 😊 Thank you!
Excellent review. I found that the only way i can get myself to like mirrorless is to think of it as a smartphone with a giant sensor. I mean they are small enough to be a 2009 phone. I'm very interested to see a comparison between the z5 and the d750 in terms of high iso performance in stills / video. since the z5 does implement a sensor that's based on the d750.
Hi Heather....Thank you for the review of the Z5, I just purchased this camera...I'm just a hobby photographer and i use the term photographer lightly, lol. question, what is the best way, function to capture live motocross racing....action shots?
Hi 👋, Thank you so much for your explanation about Z5 in details & very specific explaining for using as a beginner of photography field also like 👍. Want more about using details like manually as I told I'm very new I mean beginner so interested to learn more. 💯🤝
Hi! Love this video! Got my z5 a few months ago. I’m having trouble with the focusing. Even when I put it these settings it is still making me focus it with the lens. Is there something I’m doing wrong ?
Thanks for the walk through, just got my Z5. you mentioned you like to do your editing on a big screen, what software do you use? does Nikon have one available to it's users? Thanks
I shoot Nikon & mainly use Lightroom. The Nikon software just didn't cut it for me as it kept crashing freezing. I don't know if it has gotten better, but last I used it, I just couldn't deal with it anymore. There's also Rawtherapee & Darktable, which is free, but just know there's a steep learning curve
I've had my z5 for awhile and know the basics of manual shooting. But I'm finding I can't get sharp photos on auto or manual, I'm not sure if it's the Kit lens. Would really appreciate some tips on settings.
The kit lens is meant to get you started, but it should give some decent photos. Have you tried moving from the wide autofocus area into something more specific to what you want to focus on? What is your ISO set to?
Simple question - I just purchased my Z5 and enjoyed your walk through. But how do I get the date to time stamp on my photos. I've got it set correctly (I think), but no date shows up on the photos, and I don't see a Date Stamp option. Thank you Also, how can I control the file size on the photos. On my AW-100, I can opt for a very high quality photo or ones that take up less digital space. Currently, I have that camera set to 8M or 3264 x 2488, but I have no idea what my Z5 is doing
When it comes to the date stamp option, I do not believe this camera offers that feature. However, as long as the date is properly set in the settings, your images will have that information attached to the data. There are apps and programs where you can add the date to the image after taking them off the camera, but not in the camera automatically. As for the photo size, you really want to keep it in the largest JPG option so you have options down the line, as you can downsize a large photo but cannot upsize a small photo. However, if you would still like to know where to find that option, If you go to your menu>second tab (photo shooting menu)>make sure Image Quality is set to JPEG>then right below that is Image Size where you can choose Large, Medium or Small JPEGs.
I just got my z5 last week so I'm super excited about using it! I know pretty much about the settings, but it's helpful to see someone else's perspective and flow. Do you change your file naming conventions? I'm considering doing that for easier editing later. Thanks for the fun video!
That is really a preference, but I personally do not rename the file name. I like to put my images in albums/folders and organize them that way vs using the file name. But the nice thing is at least you have the option!
I want 50mm 1.8f prime lens which is expensive. If I buy ftz adater and buy 50mm 1.8f g mount lens, would there be any difference in the image quality?
Hm this is a great question! If it detects an eye, it will continue to lock onto it as long as there is an eye in the frame. To choose your own focus point with eyes in the frame, you need to turn the auto detection off.
Hi there! I recommend turning off the stabilization when using a tripod. The reason to use a tripod is to have stabilization, so when the camera is set to stabilize in an already stabilized position, it can actually cause shake in the photographs (especially doing long exposures). So it is best to turn it off on a tripod :)
I need a full-frame sensor, the five-axis shaken control, and that's it. I take care of the rest with experience and knowledge-no need to spend thousands of dollars on fancy cameras.
I completely agree. We're losing the true "art" of photography... I don't need video, I don't need 'auto' anything, I don't need eye AF, I don't need a bazillion frames per second, I don't need shooting "modes".
Just got a Z5 and yours was the only tutorial that was 25 minutes with loads of info. Thanks for the walk through on the settings!

Is continuous shooting 4.5 fps working in auto focus ? Kids in action is enough @ 4.5 fps ? also in low light ?

The image quality isn't going to be a huge difference, but you will see a difference in autofocus speed and focus locking on to the subject.

Hi hi does this have metering mode ?
Yes it does!
I might have missed it is there a bracketing option?
Yes I believe it’s in the drive options but when I get my hands on it tomorrow i will be sure to give you an exact location
Like you
Is it can shoot 120 fps ini at least 720p?
From what I can see, it does not have any 120 options. If you wish to shoot in a 120 frame rate, you will need to go for the Z6 or Z6 II
Super helpful video. That music is giving me a seizure after 10 mins though.
Yeaaahhh we changed courses on the music for current videos.
Can not get it to run, damn it
What is it doing? Battery charged?
Not sure what happened yesterday it worked fine, all I got was a bunch of numbers and the words Error
Will it allow you to access the menu? What does it say exactly, is it a specific error code?
Its ZED not ZEE.
No it’s Zee here in America
It's like Naicon vs Kneecon. 😂Who cares
