@@tommydaviesx yes i really like the music on this one too! I do think the volume of the music in your videos is a bit too high in the mix. (Or your voice too low). I'm pleased to find your channel near the start and I look forward to following along. Thanks for the super useful info. Particularly the comment about making a small hole to plant in!
Some good info, I am in the middle of planting 80+ Hertige fruit trees, we gone with I year old maidens, bare rooted, and completly agree the smaller the hole the better, , good planting soil being really firmed down, mulch is good, we did used to use a membrane weed matt, but now just a mulch, also we don't stake , we do use a rabbit guard/Deer protecion, and that is just held up by a bamboo cane, but if we plant a two year old tree which looks as if you have, I agree that a low down tree tie is good. Personally I would have planted them futher apart, but then I have a lot more space, but you may find them growing into each other Loved the way youi are pruning, will do the same, remebering that a fruit tree that fruits so high that only the birds get to enjoy the fruit is not what you want Have you thought of a few more varities? Everyone grows apples, but Medlars?. QunIces ? (have been told a sticky Toffee Puding made with Medlars is fantastic) Again enjoyed seeing your Orchard, and hopefuly you will see some fruit in the future
Thanks so much for such a lovely comment! 80+ Okay so you've got your hands full for a bit, at least they're bare root! What was the weed membrane? An organic material or a plastic? Yeah I think as long as you've got a good mulch they can be overkill! Rabbits and deer!! Luckily we're pretty safe here from them! Interesting, definitely want to look more into those, you know what, inspired by your comment I'll definitely get something a bit different! Half the challenge of growing something unusual is learning how to properly eat it I think so thanks for the nudge re the medlars and the inspo to try something different! :)
Membrane was nylon/plasic, and held down with five plastic pegs, so with over 8000 trees planted over six years, thats 40, 000 pegs, not good but we do try to reyckle mats and pegs where possible, site is two huge fields, bought by the local Parish Council seven years ago, nothing on the fields, but now we have lots of footpaths, , sown a wild flower meadow, put in a dog exercise area, and the fast growing native trees put in six years ago, are now over 20ft high, Al work done by a dozen volunteers, was asked last febuary if I would plant an Orchard of a few fruit trees, dedide within ten mins could do a lot more, (we have a lot of space to fill) so suggested we had a hertige fruit orchard and ask the people of the village to spondsor a tree, well it took off, hence the 80+ trees eight difernt varities, so many have never tried a Medlar, or a quince or a mulberry, in a few years anyone wil be able to come and pick as much fruit as they like, when you have a moment, check out the Facebook page"Cherry Fields" Learned to day. on a anothr heritage site, that its a big mistake to put on a thick mulch! Seems field voles will invest the mulch and then attack the young trees, so no more than an a couple of inches of mulch, and then top as required
Love it mate! Really well explained and great to be making your own stakes. Are you going to let them set fruit this year or leave them to establish first and wait til next year for fruit?
Thanks a lot! :D Hmm, probably should pick off the fruits early on but to be honest ill probably get greedy and try and grow a shrivelled little apple 😂
How are you getting away with using an allotment plot as an orchard? Our site rules require 75% of the plot in production by August - for vegetables. Raspberries, blueberries are allowed but an orchard!
To be fair I've got a pretty big plot so this could be classed as somewhere near 25%!! Plus I'm growing veg inbetween them now so whos to say its not a veg patch with some trees?!
Well done and quickly, how nice to see a young man so focused and hard working.
It looked quicker with some clever editing! 😂 Thanks though, really appreciate it, hope to impress you by working hard some more!!
just stumbled upon your channel through your "charles dowding would be proud" video. Cool stuff! Regards from the Philippines!

@@tommydaviesx haha! I'm sure letting one little apple grow won't hurt 😉
Not just rasps and blueberries. Berries yes, not fruit trees.
:D
