I’ve had the Ironwood XL for about 2 years. Solid. Does its job with little fuss. I am exceedingly happy with it. People hate on pellets but for my lifestyle its works great. When I have time I use many other cookers. I have ZERO shame using my Ironwood. Love it more all the time. Nicely reviewed
I’ve had the “little brother” version of this Ironwood and I love it. Great overview on your presentation. Agree with everything you presented. I’ve had no problems after 9 months and use it a couple of times per week. Done about everything but a brisket to date with great results. Also, very easy to clean which is what I’m going to do this afternoon.
Lone Star Grillz and Pitts and Spits would be the only expensive pellet grills I would buy. Since 2000 is something I can not afford right now, I am very happy with my Rec Tec. t
Every brand has their unique engineering design and benefits. I like their approach to simplify the basics to help those who are new to the pellet world, although, I think $2k is buying the "brand" while the unit should be $1,200 for its quality IMO. Good unit overall and GREAT for those entering the pellet world, the premium is hard to justify comparatively to other "Box Store" brand offers.
Can't wait to see the review and comparison to other pellet grills. I've got a Pro 34 myself and at some point will eventually upgrade once I get better. Mine fits my lifestyle just fine. Sure seems like everyone is a critic/hater on pellet grills.
Great Video. After 10 plus years with a Traeger Lil Tex, I upgraded to the Ironwood Pellet Grill (Smaller Ironwood). I assembled it by myself in 2 hours, from cutting open the box to plugging it in for the seasoning. I wasn't in a hurry and it is the first pellet grill I have ever assembled so I took my time. Assembly was pretty simple but I do agree that a second person will be very beneficial. How was the Bisquit test?
When are you going to drop the Ironwood XL head-to-head with the CampChef Woodwind Pro 36 video? I'm between these two for my new smoker/grill, and really appreciate your thoughts and insight!
This is exactly what I am looking at right now to replace my Masterbuilt 800 which just fell apart on me suddenly after these 2 hurricanes here in SW Florida. I knew the Masterbuilts quality was its issue and it came back to burn me really fast. Hopefully the increases build and materials of this Traeger will be better lasting here in Thunder Storm and Hurricane central lately.
I’d like to know how they hold up to rusting out. I’d ideally have the grill uncovered on the back porch. The stainless steel Webber gas grill has completely disintegrated, while my 15 year old Webber kettle grill still looks as brand new as the day I bought it and only cost $100. So between this and the Camp Chef, who is designed to stand up to the elements?
It’s hard to say, as they have a lot of similarities in build and materials. Camp Chef has the stainless body, so that should help…. Either way I wouldn’t want to leave them uncovered due to the electronics.
@@AndersonsSmokeShow oh! As I do not own a smoker yet, I didn't realize that the electronics aren't iPhone-level waterproof IPX6/7. Is that not a thing?
Another solid overview. It's great seeing you add more brands to the channel. I'm interested to see your impressions as you do more testing. Seems like the higher dollar value of this grill is in the controller and technology. Will be interesting to see if that investment makes a difference or not.
I had a choice between the new Ironwood XL and a Timberline 1300 (Gen 1) when I was looking to buy a year ago. I chose the 1300 because it had stainless steel grates. However, if I had to do it over, I would have picked the Ironwood due to the newer technology and the 3 piece grates. I also like the control panel setup on the Ironwood better. With that said, my 1300 has been flawless and has churned out some great BBQ.
I'm still a Camp Chef fan because of the ash clean out system. Taking everything apart after a long cook just to vacuum out the firepot is a deal breaker for me after using the Camp Chef
I own two large green eggs and a Weber kettle performer. I’m dying to get a pellet smoker. I like American made smokers to, but I would buy one of these or a woodwind pro. Great video brother, very detailed!
Great Presentation, keep-up the great videos, Trager does make a great smoker, I will stick with my 22 and pro 34 for now, can't see spending $2,000, @ this time, but anyway, great review.
Figured I would comment on the newest video. Trying your turkey for the first time in the smoker as a test run before thanksgiving this weekend. If you could do a video/short on the glaze you use showing exactly how you make it, it would be a game changer
I still don't understand pellet grills. I am a cabinet smoker guy. Period. I have a Santa Maria and a gas grill. A smoker that hits 130-140 is more impressive to me than one that hits 500. I just don't get these, least of all... a $2k version of one. Especially since i just got a pellet pro 2300 for $1500. I'm sure these are nice, I suppose. I grill when I want to grill and I smoke when I want to smoke. I don't buy a wrench when I need a screwdriver. I guess there is a rear end for every seat though. Stay awesome man, your vids are top shelf.
I don’t recall hearing you say whether Traeger provided the grill to you at no cost, reduced cost or if you paid for it. If Traeger provided the grill will you have to return it at a specific time or is it yours to keep? Those questions have a bearing on how a grill is reviewed in my opinion. I watched your review of the LSG and have watched your many cooks on the CCWP. I’ll be interested in your answers to these questions. Thanks.
I'd love to see what you think of the recteq smokers. I've had one for 7 years now and have loved it! its still going strong but I'm tempted to pick something new up. Not because theres a problem with it but because I'd assume newer things are better.
The ash and grease management systems do seem really intriguing. I've never beeen a Traeger guy, but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts long term on this unit.
I shopped both this and the new Weber Searwood. I chose the Searwood for the Weber quality and it does not disappoint. Huge improvement over its predecessor. However, the Searwood despite its smoke output, just does not get the flavor I’m looking for. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on the Treager. I’m used to the MB Gravity results with full splits. I do use the Searwood in both smoking and grilling. It does a fantastic job searing, which was another reason I went Searwood.
If you’re used to the results of running splits in the Gravity Series, then no pellet grill is going to blow your mind in flavor. Pellets just don’t have the same chemistry as regular hard wood
Traeger way way stepped up these new sets of Ironwoods/Timberlines. Way more smoke than the previous generation. Far better engineering. Some areas for improvement of course, but it’s a great purchase.
🙌 looks fancy. Very interested in what your first cook would be. I’m in the northeast and most smokers are difficult to run in the cold. I have a Weber WSM that has served me well but purchased a chargriller auto Egg style to play with its features. It can be tricky with low and slow but great at hot and fast. Wanted to try a pellet grill but haven’t been impressed with smoke quality of the ones if seen. I find it difficult to spend even $1000 on one of these. I like your videos and will be watching how this Trager Ironwood works out. Thanks.
First cook was today and it was a smoked turkey. Turned out great, but as you may know, smoked turkey isn't the best test for its smoked capabilities.... ran like a champ though!
Heath Riles has been using the same one in his latest videos. Now you're gonna try it, makes me want to almost upgrade. My buddy has Woodwind Pro 36 with all the accessories and loves it. So it would be a toss up
2k is for just the smoker, getting every accessory along with it pushes almost an extra 700 dollars. for that much I want better than porcelain coated grates too. for 1k less I can get stainless grates from recteq or expanded steel from yoder or LSG.
Well,well,well....wtf?... Just kidding brother, I will be watching. The lone star and that camp chief will probably be a good overall companion. The only reason I don't have a pellet pit is the auger. Will have to see how this one does. Keep up the good work
Made well and good customer support. But they are so far behind other grills they are losing any advantage they had years ago. Camp Chef has a smoke box, way easier to clean with the ash pot slide, visible pellet hopper so you don't have to open the lid every time, sidekick etc. Lone Star Grillz is not a fair comparison because of the price - but it's obviously the highest quality one out there. I used to always recommend Recteq, just got a Woodwind pro to replace it. I will say Camp Chef customer support sucks. Had an issue and haven't heard from them for a week. Recteq gets back to you within a day.
I had to spend additional $$$ to buy a custom heatshield/ drip tray for my Ironwood because the ones Traeger provides are absolute garbage after a few cooks.
Burn-off and seasoning are not the same thing. Also, seasoning does not apply to smokers, only griddles. Smokers need to be cleaned occasionally or the soot buildup will flake off and fall onto your food which is gross. If anyone thinks a smoker doesn’t need to be cleaned they are lazy.
