Thaaaank you. I needed this tutorial. Easy to understand.
I don't like buying resources from the stores. Nothing wrong with buying resources from the store. It just, I love walking around on planets and gathering up all the resources i need to craft. I find it relaxing.

I totally understand the no shopping also! There’s definitely a risk of over optimizing the fun out of a big game like Starfield so I think you’re bang on with just taking your time and exploring/gathering. Thanks so much for watching!!

I’m actually in the 1% of something now!
I can totally understand why most players haven’t messed with the cargo links, it doesn’t really impact your game that much unless you want to put a lot of time in

That and they are barely worth using because they’re bad, as any factory game player would be able to tell you upon a few seconds of consideration. Without any way to limit levels of particular items being stored, each link can only reliably transfer one type of resource, one way. For how limited they are per outpost, the idea of building out an even mildly comprehensive set of outposts to generate all the basic items is just…not worth the effort.
It’s half-assed and they could have done so much better by spending ten hours playing Factorio or Satisfactory.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was incredibly helpful and I now have several outposts spanning different planets thanks to this. It was short, sweet, and super easy to follow. Having the shopping list was a nice touch; made getting started very fast since I already had most of what I needed. 300+ hours in the game and I finally learned how to make an outpost.

Bessel III-B is a much better place for your first outpost. You can get Iron, Nickle, Aluminum, and Cobalt all in the same outpost. Vash Cowaii has a video explaining how to find the right spot and what you will need to get started. You can also find Helium 3 on Bessel III-A.
Aside from that this video has some good advice.

Great basic explanation of cargo links in general. That said, the particular moon you selected, with minimal effort you can find a location with Iron, Aluminum, and Helium all together for the first outpost, removing the need for the second outpost just for aluminum. If you do that, you basically make this single outpost your main to branch out to the rest of the galaxy (using inter-system cargo links). You need helium for fuel at every outpost where you intend to use cargo, which you can ship out from this first base.

That’s a fair point. I probably should’ve spent a couple extra minutes showing this but also wanted to demonstrate that it doesn’t really matter especially while you’re getting the hang of outposts. But totally agree with you and appreciate the call out :) thanks for watching!

I think regarding cargo links that Bethesda should consider adding major population centers as both cargo destinations to gain experience and credits, as it is setup now, but also add them as sources to link to for buying large quantities of a resource. It makes sense, for example, to be able to create a trade link with Mars for iron instead of having to buy in small quantities or mine all of it yourself. That would make these links trade links also. It would be a nice addition.

i was looking for this kind of video cos I'm a loot goblin and hoarded way too much resources, so much so that my inventory, my companion's, and one of my crew member's are all filled with resources.
Turns out, i am screwed unless i have the outpost engineering skill to build a better storage for them. so i guess the only way is putting the outpost building on the shelf for now.
Anyway, your vid is still really helpful in understanding the way it all works, definitely intrigued and looking forward to being able to develop my outposts further.

The vanilla transfer container has a storage limit so can’t be used as a reliable central hub. Eventually resources will jam at uneven ratios due to inconsistencies in production rates, or if you take different items out of them in different amounts.
It’s just not fit for purpose unless you get a mod that gives it infinite storage. The proper solution would be to allow for limits on how much of each resource/item can be stored.

    • @beepbooploot

I'm just about to set up my first ever outpost, still not sure why I'm doing it yet. LOL following the guide as I build. but started on "Tau Ceti".... I placed my beacon when AL & FE was in the resource list, but then when I went to build mode and zoomed out I only saw very small patches of them within my circle -- How much does this matter? took me ages to reposition it to get more of it in the circle and try other areas. think I ran around for about an 1.5 hours LOL.
The circle around the extractor, if I put the extractor right at the edge of the base circle does the iron outside of the base circle count?
Still not sure what I do with the resources I collect though, never really been an outpost builder :)
EDIT> Ok got my little base built up, building frames -- but can't find any stats, e.g. how much it's building per hour etc.
Edit 2... sorry -- can I store items FROM my ship at an outpost?
FYI Great beginners guide, need a little more advanced one :)

    • @beepbooploot
      @beepbooploot  3 місяці тому

I’m so glad you’re enjoying building your first outpost! Building the complex parts is probably most useful to use towards your research computer tasks and then selling for $ where it makes sense.
I could be wrong but I don’t believe there’s an official way in game to see your outputs. Once your resource line is set up though, you can sleep for as many hours as you want and that will speed up all the resource collecting and you will find you quickly max out your storage containers!
If you want to move ship inventory to your base, open your transfer container and you should be able to pull from your ship!
Hope that all helps and noted on the advanced guide, I will start trying to put this together :)
Thank you so much for watching!

I found building outposts to be a PITA. They could have come up with a better setup as many other games do it better. I ended up just building a home base. I had more than enough credits to purchase whatever I wanted so mining/outposts weren't needed fortunately. And building ships was even worse, constant errors so I just bought ships and hit the upgrade button....

For ship building just make sure to have one of every module..
As for outposts that’s why they made them optional because they knew a fair bit of people would never want to touch em. If they were mandatory people would rage non-stop
I love the options, that’s how RPGs works, gives me the options and I can pick and choose how to play.
It makes sense to be able to buy resources but at a reduced rate/more cost. It makes sense to get filthy rich after building a resource farm. It makes sense to just buy a ship and swap a few things and go. It makes sense to get an incredibly powerful ship from carefully picking components and making it “from scratch”, that’s role play bb

I'm among those 0.8% ... I mean after 840h played in this game, it is surely worth it! 😁 Here are my 2 cents on this take:
    - every time I went through the Unity, I've always built an outpost on these 2 planets: Bessel 3b (Al, Fe, Ni, Co) and Charybdis 5 (W, Ti, Cu, Pb, Sb, Au). With these two in motion, you can setup your whole outpost network (24 max) and farm xp from 2 sources, on Bessel 3b!
    - DON'T go for the He3 generators! They're bugged and even though it will give you the impression that it will work, at start, they'll stop working once you'll leave the planet and do other things. The whole outpost feature was pretty badly tested by BGS, but we all know how much importance give Bethesda to its QA department (close to none, if anybody had a doubt) 🙄

    1) Any components you need for crafting can just be bought from vendors.

Yeah I think the reason so few have completed this task is because it doesn’t work. I have hundreds of hours in this game. Explored thousands of planets set up hundreds of outposts and it never works. Don’t ask to delete what you have already done and start over, what’s the point. Fallout 4 had this down.
