The force scream reminds me of when Anakin used the same technique after beating Ventress in 2003 clone wars. It probably demoralized the Jedi masters and unnerved them, and then an old man did a 720 degree spin and cut them down
The way the novel describes it is so freaking awesome and I’ve always loved that force scream because it sounded so otherworldly. Made it make Palpatine sound like a demon. In ROTS, even through the body language you saw that Agen Kolar and Saesee Tiin were disoriented. And the fact that Kit managed to hold off Palpatine for a little bit and allowed himself to die knowing Mace was the only guy to really stand a chance against Palpatine was awesome. Kit left himself vulnerable so that Mace would be the last one standing because he knew Mace would succeed. When you analyze that scene its really cool how body language was used to convey so much.

Maybe because at this point in time, the Force was so out of balance that the Jedi were weaker. Mace said their ability to use the Force had diminished. 🤔

Most Jedi were not as naturally gifted as Anakin, Luke, Yoda, or Mace. There were an abundance of Jedi, most not too powerful. If you’re force sensitive the Jedi find you and accept u regardless of potential. only the strongest sith survive and not all can become a Sith u have to have natural power and potential to be worthy of training.
He didn't defeat Yoda or Mace even with his lightning. He also couldn't defeat Plagueis. He had to get him drunk and wait until he fell asleep then assassinate him.
Lack of practice fighting Sith is probably a factor as well. You've fought all the Jedi techniques, and force abilities, but you've not been challenged by what the dark side does in 1000 years. It's perfectly reasonable that their combat styles adapted to be ideal against other Jedi, because that's who they spar with, and against blasters.
Because after a point in history, the Sith started to focus on the quality of training in their apprentices (rule of two is a part of that too) rather than their quantity while the Jedi spread their knowledge as wide as possible with any force sensitive children they could find. So the quality of Jedi training was naturally reduced in comparison to that of the Sith
the jedi confronted many dark side users/lightsaber users before that. There were literally years of clone wars in which jedi were generals and fought griveous, Dooku, Vempress, Maul, Savage. They were not unprepared. They went 4 on 1, knowing he was a sith. The scene is just BS, there is no need to try and justify everything.

If it was so impossible to win against a sith lord, how come Padawan Obi wan won against maul? Yes they were unprepared...in Episode 1. And we know It's a bad scene. There is footage of what the fight should have looked like. Mace wasn't affected because he has mastered both the light and dark sides of the force(purple saber) so it didn't affect him nearly as much if not at all
Or George changed weeks of practiced coordination under Nick’s direction in order to keep Ian in the fight. This is what happens when a director is surrounded by “yes men”. I’d love to see some rehearsal footage.

One other thing that bothered me about this scene: Why didn’t Mace bring, idk, 100 Jedi to come arrest Palpatine? Like in the real world if the police were going to arrest a big time mafioso or cartel member, you know they would be showing up w/ a minimum 30 cars to arrest the dude(s). At least a dozen or 2 of the most experienced Jedi around.

The books tried to fix an enormously huge plot hole in the movie. How does a Jedi Master just stand there waiting to get slashed. It was just a stupid scene.
When I seen this film in the theaters I felt that the film speed was fast. Because it made him look so freaking fast. Now on DVD or streaming it looks normal. I wonder if they speeded the frames per second?

The novelisation released on 2nd April 2005, more than a month before the movie released on 19th May 2005. If Palps used Force Scream on four "greenhorns" they would probably have stayed frozen as Palps casually walked across the room and sliced them up.

They film failed to convey how powerful they were, and how powerful palpatine was in the moment then. I love star wars, but no matter how you explain it, this scene was dome poorly if they were all jedi masters. If it was really force scream that messed with them, then the film should have done a better job at emphasizijg his scream was a special attack, and the masters reacted directly to that, and THEN something to better showcase it was force speed. This clip shows Palpatine killing Mace Windu. Which didn’t happen. He was force lightninged out a window after Anakin stopped him from killing Palpatine, which according to everything I’ve read, didn’t actually kill Windu, but severely injured him.
The only thing I've read about Mace still being alive after being zapped with a ton of force lightning and thrown out the window by it is a bunch of stupid fan theories.
And then there is Mace completely unfazed and defeats him
