We had a few parties like this with my Cossack father. I am remembering him at my wedding day on August 11, 1974. He had a good time that day. Miss you, Pop.
This is quite possibly the most awesome drinking song I have ever heard. My family on my father's side is nearly 100% Ukrainian, and while I know the song is technically not a drinking song, more of a folksong, and these words are most definitely NOT the original lyrics (I learned the song in Ukrainian from my Baba-my grandma-when I was a kid). I saw this movie for the first time when I was 14 or 15 years old, and I watched it with my dad. It was a lovely father/daughter bonding experience!
There are also exist a great songs " Kosaken mussien reiten " and " Kosak legende " perfomed by Ivan Rebroff . Or " Oj czij to kin stoit " which was perfomed by Jurij Tokar for Poland movie " With sword and fire " .
Gogol must have been drunk when he wrote that piece of drivel. No more than 249 #. 250- and nobody in his right mind is gonna let you even come close to the poor horse. Anyone who's been on a Mexican cruise knows I'm telling the truth.
Natalia Rishniak It's probably something that many people sing. Like the stories of King Arthur, when these are told by Scotsmen, King Arthur becomes Scottish.
Not the actual words to kalinka, but... I like it. A fun drinking song! Here is the words to real Kalinka, which is really more of a lullaby: lyricstranslate.com/en/kalinka-kalinka-kalinka.html
1. Tony Curtis was offered a job and he wanted to make money, I guess? 2. They're not actually Cossacks, they're mostly Americans singing a Russian song. Does that somehow make more sense to you?
They took down his star on the Walk of Fame. Boy, was I pissed when I found Uncle Jose' ( Ferrer ) but couldn't find Goddaddy's. I threw such a shit fit!
@chengloki Beginning, CAPITAL LETTERS!!! I do not understand what you are "trying to say." (Not making sense). Obvious statement about what is "real." I explain my nationality, unintentionally explaining the cause of my confusion. =Stefan=
I guess the script writers figured Westerners are too stupid to know the difference between Turks, Poles, Russians & Ukrainians. Judging from some of the comments nothing has changed since the film was made.
@Tanksareforcowards Obviously, VIDEO GAMES ARE NOT REAL!!! I have taken part of "the bread ceremony". (Babka Yashchenny). Games are not real. Life is. And I'm Ukrainian. Are you??? =Stefan=
Guys, we're got a couple of Putin's spies in our midst! Look at those " kosovorotkas " that the pathetic Costume Designer chose to use instead of " vyshivankas ". Anrej, Ostap, you've just betrayed yourselves! 🤣
He is another madman, step aside everybody. Gogol himself, which is now stated as “Ukrainian writer” (he lived in Ukraine) thought that Russians and “Ukrainians” are one nation. His opinion is a little more valuable, don’t you think?
but kalinka is a russian song! and modern ukrainians hate everything russian! ukrainians would rather sing "oi, tam nf gori" ("oh, somewhere on the hill")
why the fuck would cossacks sing a russian song? that makes no sense. and why would tony curtis, a jew, make a movie about cossacks. cossacks were the reason most of my family left the ukraine. its interesting stuff but still a bit confusing.
We had a few parties like this with my Cossack father. I am remembering him at my wedding day on August 11, 1974. He had a good time that day. Miss you, Pop.
I don't always party, but when I do...it's with cossacks.
Have you ever read Tarás Bulba? Never, right?

Cheers
Apparently Ukraine just means borderlands or something.
Then you must also know this is not a Ukrainian song. 🤣
Ukraine is like Donbass or Asgard- it's not a place, it's a state of mind.
That's not Ukrainian song 😂😂😂
Tony Curtis and the other guys don't have the traditional haircut of the Cossack Brotherhood. My wife's great grandfather had that haircut.
There are also exist a great songs " Kosaken mussien reiten " and " Kosak legende " perfomed by Ivan Rebroff . Or " Oj czij to kin stoit " which was perfomed by Jurij Tokar for Poland movie " With sword and fire " .
If I remember the Gogol novel, the Taras Bulba character weighed about 400 pounds. Orson Welles must not have been available...
Gogol must have been drunk when he wrote that piece of drivel. No more than 249 #. 250- and nobody in his right mind is gonna let you even come close to the poor horse. Anyone who's been on a Mexican cruise knows I'm telling the truth.
@@tatianalyulkin410Татьяна , Вы недооцениваете упорство украинского характера . Все это только небольшая репетиция для разогрева .
wtf,english kalinka
+Kuba Alaverdi I know right
OMG! Star track + Temple Shaolin = Taras Bulba? No comments.
This movie has such a nice look into Cossack tradition.
Not with those ridiculous costumes they ain't! 🤣
Natalia Rishniak It's probably something that many people sing. Like the stories of King Arthur, when these are told by Scotsmen, King Arthur becomes Scottish.
King Arthur or Bea Arthur?
Both .

They took down his star on the Walk of Fame. Boy, was I pissed when I found Uncle Jose' ( Ferrer ) but couldn't find Goddaddy's. I threw such a shit fit!

If they had the lock thicker and more forward on the head, then it would scream "Slavic warrior".
My favourite Russian song... :D
@chengloki Beginning, CAPITAL LETTERS!!! I do not understand what you are "trying to say." (Not making sense). Obvious statement about what is "real." I explain my nationality, unintentionally explaining the cause of my confusion. =Stefan=

He is another madman, step aside everybody. Gogol himself, which is now stated as “Ukrainian writer” (he lived in Ukraine) thought that Russians and “Ukrainians” are one nation. His opinion is a little more valuable, don’t you think?
I think the Don Cossacks would disagree. But I guess some Cossacks must do what the Banderistas say ;-)
