Yeah this has always been my one random annoyance with AOE 2 - Melee units stand still during their "reload time" while ranged units can move during their reload time. This inherently makes ranged OP, which is why infantry are still useless after being buffed 10 times in the past 10 years. This should be the exact opposite, so that melee units can move during their attacks, and archers should all have to pause for a second to reload just before they shoot.

The main outcome is basically what a lot of the top players have been calling out for pathfinding to be for years, but the fact that it's based on the zero collision during no attack stance is fundamentally an 'exploit' (I think it'll be particularly contentious in the hiding the BBC example). I'll be interested to see a couple of other edge cases, how does no attack pathing work when it comes to enemy units. Could it be used to improve scout behaviour, for example.

I used the patrol stack as the British back in conquerors or kings. Having 4 groups of yomen in front of a castle and behind a wall was incredibly useful.
When I was 8 years old I was teached Stronghold Crusader has unity stacking (fiddly), while AoE2 has not. You are putting my world upside down lol I did not know this.

This is actually the main reason I don't play AOE2 anymore. After playing 3 and 4 the pathing of the 2D isometric units just comes off as mechanical and clunky. Plus AOE3 is waaaay better than I remember, it's probably the best AOE games
Great stuff! Although at around 3:46 you overmicroed the cav archer, getting it killed. The knight has 1.35 speed vs 1.43 of the Cav Archer. The knight could only catch up due to you offering it shorter and shorter pursuit curves. You want to always maintain a straight line, when being pursued. With no attack stance on hotkey, all of your games will be pacifist if you mess up.

I use less seige equipment because I get half the time to move my rams. Pathing is bullshit.

You can also do this when using split movement to rapidly get your units to sprint as you shift between no attack and attack.
