May last year was the first time I saw tens of thousands of silkworms, the first time I tried xundoucha i.e. "smoked-bean tea" and the first time I had a beverage made from pieces of dried sticky rice cake and sugar. All these took place at my buddy's place in the countryside of Wujiang Dist. of Suzhou as shown in this video.
Other than Zhenze, the above-mentioned xundoucha is also found in the nearby town of Qidu, and variously across the Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou region. Called hongdoucha in some places, ingredients also differ, for instance the addition of dried mandarin orange peel and seeds of a type of liana.
