"Bobbi, ya wanna tell us what chu'r doin?" "CLANK CLANK CLANK mumble mumble CLANK CLANK CLANK!!!" Um, yeah... Ok. I'm guessing he's dipping the block to clean out some old gunky oil residue!
Well growing up I always was hang out with my grandfather and uncles in the garage, during High School I took an Auto shop class, but went into the Army and just keot doing it as a hobby. Plus if you tear up thing you don’t repeat the same mistake.
Sorry it took so long to get back but had to go find my receipts, for just the machine work it was 100.00 to turn the crank, 35.00 do the fly wheel, and 50.00 for hot tank over night with tax still under 300.00. I thought that was great.
Awesome videos, very helpful. I also have a 75 noticed a few minor differences but nothing major. First restoration, your videos have been very helpful. original head passed shop test, trying to figure out if I should paint it black like the rest of the motor or a silver or aluminum. What would you do with a stock head?
Ive been getting my gaskets from Moss for years, Im rebuilding a 1980 1800 right now Ill look on the package. Doug Braden out of Columbus Ohio has been my supplier on all my stuff easy to work with, if you search MGB or Truimph Columbus Ohio always comes up triumphparts
I am thinking of getting one of the aluminum heads, but i want to get some opinions. Is it a big improvement over the cast Iron head? and would you say it's worth the money?
@itsawindupuk Thanks for watching, for your question “yes” it’s an aluminum head (good catch), when I had the original cast iron head checked out at the machine shop, they found a cracked in the water jacket of number 2 cylinder. This is the first aluminum head I have every used, but with the weight difference, and better cooling I’ll see if it was worth the money spent. I just got finish tearing out the engine compartment, and start prepping for paint.
Great video! Could you tell me where did you locate the Oil System Pipe-Filter/Block Cooler By-Pass Tube. Looking for this hard line tube to install in my 1973 MGB. I do not have an oil cooler and I like the idea of not having one. My project is to remove and replace the rubber bypass tube to a solid steel tube. Thanks...
Well my green 79 seems to always be fighting from not to over heart, only way I found to stop it was to add a more cores to the raditor, the blue 79 with the aluminum head always run cool, and valves are quite as a mouse, and of course it lighter
Really nothing, I put a new cam in but it was stock from 69 grind, the weber down draft is a little easier to work with. by just raising the compression a little made it a great running engine without having to use higher Octane fuel
@itsawindupuk Thanks, It's slowed me down with the tapping, but I had a lot of fun doing it. My wife, and kids keep laughing at me for doing it, they think no one cares about these little cars anymore, so I' mtrying to prove other wise, so keep it coming. Thanks
Nice "B"series rebuild done as it should be.I only have one negative comment, why the hell would you fit perhaps the worst oil filter ever invented.Try cutting a new Fram filter open and then go buy a quality filter and cut that open. You will be shocked at the difference.
Great job 👍
brilliant video!!! good to see all the detail of the rebuild

very nice! I love a nice clean engine.
Thats great, Good luck with any future projects!

Intsead of grinding a crank, they should spray a precision molten ceramic-metallic coating on it to build it up. Then it may never wear out.

Love your videos very informative, how did you learn all this? I'm just starting a MGB rebuild? It's been sitting for 14 years in a garage.

one more question... lol. what brand gaskets do you use or just the rtv?
Besides the obvious alum. head, what performance parts having you put on? Fast Road Cam., higher CR?

the voice inflection is killing me
I see this is an OLD Video, but I was wondering how this rebuilt went and how the Aluminum Head did for you?
Why not flat top pistons??
Sure helps if you got a buddy who's got all the equipment and does it for free.

how much did it cost to do all that?
cant wait to fix my Austin Healey !
