    The WWSD project continues to progress, and in this case we now have complete lowers, along with complete carbines. The WWSD2021 complete lower is another evolution in the WWSD endeavor, with the most significant element being the next phase of the SLT-1 FGG: the Rekluse.

    I purchased a stripped KP15 lower. I have had it for several months now. I couldn't be happier with it. I have been thinking about buying a complete lower this time since I used all my spare parts in the last one.

  • @JeffNeelzebub
    @JeffNeelzebub 3 роки тому +39

    For me, the biggest benefit of the SLT-1 is the fact I can do rapid fire dry fire practice with it. The trigger doesn’t technically self-reset, but it does reset against the sear, so you get a trigger pull feel every time even though it’s not dropping a hammer or anything. Great way to practice while conserving Ammo or in your home without having to go to a range.

    • @MyLonewolf25
      @MyLonewolf25 3 роки тому +3

      Meh. Non resetting triggers mean I also get in manipulation practice too

    • @JeffNeelzebub
      @JeffNeelzebub 3 роки тому +9

      @@MyLonewolf25 it’s definitely not the same. With the SLT, I can feel the “click” when the trigger breaks against the sear every time, and also the click when it resets as I let the trigger go. The trigger pull with the hammer down and back are identical as measured by trigger gauge, so you get the exact same feel with every pull.

    I have two of the lowers. If you want a dedicated lower for rifle/carbine and don’t need the modularity of the traditional type lower, they are superior.
    The SLT-1 triggers are the best triggers I’ve used - they’ve given me the best groups when testing/zeroing out to 600 yards (I don’t do any bench shooting) and are the fastest when I’ve run cqb drills. They have done fantastic for hunting. I am also a big believer in the reliability benefits of the sealed system and believe that the ability to engage the safety regardless of weapon condition is a benefit for the majority of people.

    I’ve been watching the WWSD2020 store page on Brownells for months now, waiting to get a full rifle so I could have the buttplate and pdq lever for a full WWSD build, instead of buying the other lower options available. This product is exactly the kind of thing I needed. Cheers to the guys at Brownells/KE for thinking of selling this.

      @@jameshealy4594 ours (New Jersey) was the blueprint for our, thankfully, sunset National AWB so the reasons were cosmetic. The BCM was available as a separate item, whereas I could only buy the Faxon upper as part of the rifle. Both had the fatal flaw of having a flash hider which was also easily removed, but, I could have the lower sent to an FFL (Federal Firearms Licensed dealer) and, since the upper is NOT a firearm, I could legally have it sent to me. My FFL would NOT touch an illegal arm no matter how much he likes me, but the lower was fully legal. Before I could legally install the upper on the lower, I had to have the flash hider replaced with a muzzlebrake and pinned and welded.

I'm a police officer with over 30 years of service and I've found numerous prosecutors, not to mention officers, who are confused by our laws. The best wasn't even in the law. It was a "clarification" issued by our Attorney General that describes a prohibited shotgun as being an autoloading SG with a pistol grip "that allows it to be fired one-handed like a pistol"! I want so much for the fellow who wrote that to demonstrate with a 12ga autoloader! I went through close to 2500 rounds with 3 ARs that had a Franklin Armory binary trigger, a CMMG mil spec trigger, and a Geissle SAE trigger, respectively. I never once had issues with light primer strikes or failures to ignite, shooting in ~90°F to ~20°F temperatures. I've never heard of an issue with hardened primers. A friend of mine has an MR556 upper on a Spikes lower, also with a Geissle trigger, and he hasn't had any issues with the firing pin safety on that. Almost makes me wish I'd waited to put together my 'kinda-sorta' knockoff/improved go-to rifle. Used an empty KP-15 and populated it out with a combination of stuff I wanted and stuff I could get, trigger is baseline military (that I plan to replace eventually, when circumstances allow), also have the trapdoor plate and an idea I started to use after I first saw dad's KP-15 lowers, KNS Precision takedown and pivot pins. I decided that since the pins on lower are not captive, I wanted to minimize the chances of them coming out unexpectedly, so the KNS locking pins fit the bill nicely and are long enough to work with the KP-15. It makes it a little more annoying to field strip, but I figure if I need to that in a hurry, I'm in a real world of hurt.
    As for the upper, I used one of the Aero M4E1 enhanced uppers that removes the need to time the barrel nut as it connects to the handguard using a forged boss that is part of the upper. It limits rails choices a bit, but I was fine with that. The real problem was/is the barrel. I wanted the Faxon 20" gunner but my back order on that currently has an estimated ship date of June 2022 (and has been scooting steadily back for two months). In order to have a functioning rifle sometime this year, I compromised for the time being and found a Faxon 16" gunner with midlength gas system. I plan on swapping the barrels when/if the 20" shows up and building dad an upper using the 16" and some spare parts I've gathered since he has a shortage of modern twist barreled ARs. At least for now, I do have a nice handy carbine, even though I tend to favor full 20" rifles.

    Have you looked at the JAG composites handguards? They weigh close to half of the Faxon ones, although you only get MLOK on 4 sides instead of all 8. The finish around the edges may not be 100% perfect, but they seem pretty well made to me. It seems to be a lot smaller operation than Faxon though, so I don't know how much they would be able to pump out fast. They might send you a sample to torture if you ask.
    I ordered two of the WWSD stripped lowers (partly because I wanted the SLT-2) and assembled a ground-up AR with one with the 14.5" Faxon pencil barrel and permanently attached flash hider with the JAG handguard mated to an Aero slick side upper. It is one exceptionally handy rifle even with a Holosun 512c, 3x magnifier, plastic handstop and TLR-1 HL.
    You've all put out a fantastic product, something to be proud of even if it hadn't sold at all. I have a feeling this is only the (new) beginning for the monolithic polymer lower.

    After the first WWSD project, but before the 2021 version, I decided to make my own. Unfortunately I made my decision to do this after all of the GWACS receivers disappeared from the market but before the WWSD 2021 announcement. I embarked on my own build on an aluminum lower and attempted to use as many of the same parts as the WWSD as I could, changing only to save weight. My total build was just a little bit heavier. My upper setup is actually lighter in a few areas. Recently, I purchased a blemished KP-15 lower and made it into a WWSD lower, and have attached the upper I made. It works great, and I am very happy. When installing the PDQ bolt catch, I found that I had to file down the inside of the right hand control pad a bit to allow for clearance of the extra wall thickness that the kp-15 lower has. Otherwise it rubs against the wall and gets stuck. Not much filing was needed, and a little paint afterwards will stop any corrosion. Its better to file the lever and leave as much material on the KP-15 as possible rather than the other way around as those KP-15 walls are structural.
    In case you want to do something like this here is a nice parts list to check out:
    (Please note, I am not in the business of firearms in any way - I am a mechanic for a living)
    Vsevens enlightened upper receiver (no forward assist)
    Vsevens ultralight ar-15 port door with ultralight rod and spring
    Vsevens titanium barrel nut
    Vsevens magnesium hyperlight handguard (M-LOK) with titanium screws, you choose the length you want, I went with 15 inch.
    Alternatively, consider Smoke Composites carbon fiber handguards.
    Faxon 16 inch pencil barrel
    Faxon complete lightweight bolt carrier, I got mine in chameleon, you choose your own adventure here.
    SLR rifle works titanium adjustable gas block
    Vsevens extreme environment gas tube
    Odin Works Atlas 5 compensator
    For the division I am wanting to compete in, iron sights are required, so I'm using Troy iron sights for now.
    With the exception of the compensator and the gas tube virtually everything else listed is lighter than the WWSD upper parts.
    For the lower:
    While I like the aluminum lower I built up, the KP-15 lower in WWSD 2021 config is just better. All told, my entire KP-15 based WWSD rifle with an empty magazine weighs less than just the complete upper on my normal AR.
    There are two downsides:
    1) If you have a spouse/SO, you will need to make 2 so you can have one too.
    2) If your buddies shoot it, its gonna be hard to get it back for practice at the range.

    The PDQ ambi bolt release being installed is a big win for the complete lower. Taking a dremel to your lower to fit a part kinda sucks, so it's nice that it's already done for you.
    Now contemplating upgrading the trigger...an extra $70 on top of an already pricey trigger.

      Make sure you don’t order the “mil-spec” complete lower. It is not milled for the PDQ. It was the only one Brownells is showing at the moment.

    I had a feeling the REKLUSE was going to be used in the next iteration, so I bought one as soon as I knew about it.
    Karl, I was thinking that since one of the selling points of the Young Manufacturing hard chromed BCG was the recoil lug, isn't the logical next step to make a monolithic BCG with an integral gas key? I know it can be done, at least one company has.
