I bought a used saw without a manual. This video did a great job showing me how to tune up the saw and where the adjustments were in a clear concise manner. Well done!
Just bought this saw, got it out of the box and attached it to the fold up table. Next job is to set up the blade. This very timely and down to earth video should save me plenty of time and headaches. Thanks.
Awesome! Just take your time and be patient and it should all go just fine! You can always tweak it again later if you find something off once you start using it too...
Thank you for the video! imo - the easiest way to check for main square cut is to get a reasonably sized piece of wood and cut it and check it using your square. And then flip it over and cut again and check for square. That seemed to do the best for me. Also, thank you for trying different ways to show how to make it square. Hope it helps others. Finally, thanks for not editing your video to make it look easy - while it's not terribly difficult, there is a lot of tweaking here and there to get it perfect.
thanks for the feedback! Someone else recommended a digital angle finder that is magnetic and attached to the sawblade. I'm going to have to pick one up and try that out in the future for the bevel cuts. It's definitely a lot of small tweaks back and forth. A little too far one way, not far enough, then too far, over and over. hahaha.
Love the BOSCH saw, and loved the very detailed explanation of how to set or adjust the saw. Will be getting this along with the mobile stand. Will convince both my wife and daughter to get me the stand first for FATHERS day, and get the saw by myself. You sir just earned a sub and a like. Love how you your time, and were very patient with making those infinite adjustments. This video is added to my playlist. I will be reverting to this particular video to make my adjustments once I get it. Very well down sir, I will be back for more of your videos in the future. Thank you for this.
My saw arrived with the adjustment bolts on the back of the saw tightened down. No way to bevel. You showed the quick adjustment and now the bevel mechanism works as it should. Thank You!!!
This is an excellent tune up video and much appreciated. I realize that it's 3 years old but I just received this saw last night from Home Depot delivery. I unpacked it and was just making certain that everything moved before ever plugging it in. I tilted the bevel to maximum left bevel and now it won't move back to vertical. No slop, nothing. Just jammed at 47 degrees left. I'm going to try these bevel adjustment tips to see if I can free it up before tuning it up. Okay I fixed it. Just loosen the biggest nut in the rear.
Thank you for the video. I was looking at miter saws last week and ended up sold on the Bosch. It will still be a month or two before I get it, but youve put a lot of my worries to rest already. Reading the online reviews ( I always start by reading the 1 srar reviews) a lot of folks complained that right out of the box it wouldnt cut square and there were no adjustments for it. 😢. Their loss. I was blown away by the smoothness of the Glide system. I will be using it primarily for making segmented rings which will be glued together and turned into bowls, urns, etc.
Not sure about the new ones, but the GCM12SD's from before 2020 could not be adjusted to do both a square cut when doing a chop and a square cut doing a slide. You had to choose one or the other because all you can control is the bed and fence, not the path of the blade when extended. The blade shaft is slightly out of alignment with the arm. Adjusting the bed and fence can't fix that. I've been trying to find a solution for 5 years.
Thank you for posting this video. I bought the saw about a year ago and was naive in thinking Bosch would have set it up decently upon delivery, given the price point of the item. Boy was I wrong... Had to bodge a few mitres just now, was fed up with angles being off and found your video.
Got frustrated with this mitre saw after some time. Finally this excellent video got the saw cut square and true. Heaps of thanks from Down Under🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
AWESOME!!!!!! Glad it was helpful! Can't say I love the saw but it cuts okay. My old DeWalt seemed to be more accurate but it was broken and needed to be replaced and this is what I got
OMG! You are the only one being able to explain all the necessary steps in one cool video! I am German and after wasting so much time, I finally stumbled upon this!!! Thank you so much and all the best wishes to you
This video is a great help.. i have same bosh model and same issues.. miter saw is brilliant in a way however must be precisely adjusted and here you are coming with your great tutorial!! Cheers
I have a 12" Dewalt slider which I absolutely love and while it's a great jobsite saw the slide takes up a lot of space when in my shop which is what brings me to your channel! I was researching this Bosch because I was digging it's articulating glide arm but after seeing you struggle to get the miter zeroed in and the clunky adjustment screws and such I'm having second thoughts! Uggh!
Yeah I don't love this Bosch saw...... If I was going to buy a new one I'd go for the Makita with the front mounted rail. It's the traditional rail glide system but reversed so you can put it against a wall. I don't know if it's any better than the Bosch but worth a shot anyways! Here's an amazon affiliate link to what I'm talking about amzn.to/46XPIGS #ad "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." (I have to say that)
@@BorsellinoHomeServices Weirdly coincidentally today I saw the Makita LS1219L at a local pawn shop but they wanted $749 for it and it's quite used and about only $60 less than a brand new one. I might have been able to talk them down to $600 but I'm not ready to pull the trigger.
Great video - my GCM12SD is running true now. Out of the box it was way way off and always I had to make small adjustments manually to get it to cut decent every time. Now with the stops and detents set, this should save a ton of time!
Damn! Nick. You look like a movie star!! I just joined a communal shop in Raleigh NC, called ShopSpace, so I could do a little more woodworking than I could in my one car garage. They've got one of the Bosch Dual bevels; lo and behold, nobody new how to adjust it. So, here I am at 4 in the morning looking for UA-cams and who do I find--Nick Borsellino!!! I guess I'll get into the video now. Great to see you. Best regards, brother. Devin Dascher
Thanks for showing me how to adjust the lock from the rear of the saw. The wing was so tight it interfered with wide boards, now I can adjust it so that it is below the top!
Excellent video! I bought one of these after going through 2 yellow brand ones in 2 days. I love it but still need to tweek it a bit once the snow stops.
I have the Bosch GCM 12 GDL with the same problems, very grateful to you for the good explanation. I hope I can fix it. Keep it up. Regards from Chile.
*Great machine for the price! Pretty powerful **MyBest.Tools** and light to carry around the home. I definitely recommend this saw for any homeowner. Also, came with an extra blade. I was very satisfied with the overall quality and price.*
You say it's easy to carry around the house? I have one and it weighs 67 lbs. I carry my work to it. It is a great saw and mine came out of the box set up spot on.
SWEET! How do you like it? I haven't really used mine much and I'm finding it hard to get used to and I'm not terribly pleased with the accuracy of the cuts. Like when I make a 45 degree bevel it makes a curve in the bevel so only the center of the board touches the other miter. It is so weird!
@@BorsellinoHomeServices hmmm. Have you had problems with blade wobble? I hear that’s not uncommon for 12 inch blades. I used the classic dealt 12 inch for years with out that issue. I’ve used this saw for like 2 years now but not all the time and I notice that problem sometimes but not all the time. I figured it was operator error lol.
@@mo.ripples YES! I don't think it's operator error. I have issues with wobble on the 12" blade and honestly, I) wish I bought the 10" version instead of this monster.... I still might buy it and "downgrade". I came from the DWS 782 which was an amazing saw but started having some blade wobble after my dog knocked over my saw on the stand... DOH
To adjust the main cut at 90 degrees, I have found it very helpful to use a pair of Rockler micro adjusters for the router table. When these are sold, they all "face" in the same direction, but it is very easy to reverse one of them (you unscrew the part that touches what you are going to adjust, take the long screw out of the clamp and screw it into the clamp in the opposite direction, and then screw the face part back in). It is then possible to clamp one of these to each side of the board the saw is attached to, lining them up so that one presses on the right side of the saw and the other on the left. This enables you to make fairly small adjustments to the position of the saw; you just unscrew one a little and then screw the other one in a little more. This is a lot better than whacking the saw one way and, when that proves too far, whacking it in the other direction and hoping that you luck out.
is this what you're talking about? www.rockler.com/micro-adjuster-for-router-table-fence I just can't for the life of me figure out how I would attach that to my saw to adjust the angle
Just purchased this saw but have not set it up yet. Looks pretty straight forward. TY for making this video, should help me out when I get aroubd to adjusting all the blade angles which will be soon.
This was an absolutely fabulous done Vedic. I might have missed it but i don’t rember hearing you mention the sizes of the used sockets nor the Allen keys. Thank you.
yeah basically use whatever works for you. Framing squares can get out of square and you can recalibrate them so I always check left and right sides. And no square will be 100% dead on, or at least it's near impossible so always double and triple check everything every way you can :)
I returned my first saw because it too was out of square and bevel was off and no matter what adjustments I did as per the manual, it was always off. Either the left side would true up but the right side was off and vise versa. I ended up calling Bosch and the tech guy basically said it’s probably a defective saw and the option were to have them service it or I go back to Depot to exchange it. I ended up exchanging it and the replacement saw right out of the box was spot on square and bevel. I did notice on the original saw that the spacing from the table to the underside of the fence on the left was less than on the right side. The new one has equal spacing. So just exchange it for a good one. Overall I am very disappointed with Bosch’s quality control to allow this issue that so many others are having. I didn’t want to give up on it because Lowe’s had it on sale and depot did the price match plus 10%. also after speaking to depot customer service regarding this saw they took another $30.00 off, so I ended up paying only $599.00 + HST. Nice!
Great video. Thanks. I have the 10 inch saw which is just slightly different but the way you did things was extremely helpful. I wish you would do one on the 10 inch version. Thanks so much!
Thanks! Honestly, I wish I bought the 10 inch instead of the 12. I think this has too much blade deflection and wobble overall. Plus it is really heavy and awkward to pick up. Much harder than my old dewalt to transport.
@@BorsellinoHomeServices The Bosch 10 inch is only 1 pound lighter than the 12 inch according to another UA-cam video I watched. It is no picnic to move around, especially at my age! Anyway, your video really helped me to understand the tuning up process. A tiny bit different on the 10 inch but still much more doable after watching your excellent video.
This helped me a lot, just bought one! I think your ref. in title is wrong: the 'SD' is the one with the Rail, this is the GCM12 GDL (at least in Europe). Cheers from France!
Nope it's correct. Here's a link to Bosch's website... definitely SD. But thanks for the heads up I'm assuming it's just different in Europe (which is odd) www.boschtools.com/us/en/boschtools-ocs/miter-saws-gcm12sd-33969-p/
i didn't know milwaukee made a space saving saw... I'll be honest, after owning this thing for a while I don't love it. In fact, I liked my old dewalt better. But I needed the space saving to fit it into my trailer shop setup
@@BorsellinoHomeServices not a space saver, just a sliding miter saw. 6955-20, in my opinion is more of finicky. Though being a milwaukee well built. I tested a makita was not to fond of it, feels odd, makita does contractor grade tools. I have a portable table saw, it's a work horse.
No problem. I'm glad to hear you love it! I honestly haven't used it much cause I've got my business on hold for plow season. I don't bother with the construction in the winter here cause I hate working in the snow. I'll be using it a lot more soon though!
Hi. I just got this saw and really appreciated your video, so thanks for that. Having said this, I have a slight "issue". My first cut did not go "through" all the way. What I mean by that is that the blade moved not far enough (away from you) to cut all the way through the piece of wood... Why would that be? I see all kind of stops build into this thing, but could not find one that would limit the travel back and forth!? Any idea? Thanks.
That's odd. I have noticed that it barely cuts through that bottom back side and I often wonder if it cut it all the way. Are you using the blade that came with it or something else? The only thing I can think is that there is something stuck somewhere like styrofoam packaging or something inside the knuckle?
@@BorsellinoHomeServices Hi. Sorry for the late reply... I am using the blade that came with it. However, I made a few more test cuts and they all went all the way through this time. However, I feel like I have to push harder than I should, in order to make the cuts all the way through. I will check for something stuck in between though. Thanks.
Great video, but god this saw has so many steps to do anything to. lol.. It ate up a good portion of my day doing these adjustments vs actually working. Hope it stays perfect for a long time!
Yeah it is a pain to setup for sure. I haven't readjusted mine since I made this video but I don't use it very often and when I do it cuts good for me. If I was going to do a job that needed exact precision I might check it over again
I adjusted it again after using it for a few months and was able to get it much better. Just needed some time to wear itself in I guess. The only thing I don't like is there seems to be something off with the knuckle which is not adjustable... Doesn't seem sturdy enough or something so the blade deflects. I'm not explaining it even properly cause I don't know how to explain it
Thanks for this video. Wish I had found it sooner. I had been fighting with non-square cuts for awhile and could not figure out what was wrong. Do you know how to adjust the rotating base? Mine is extremely tight and difficult to turn.
@@BorsellinoHomeServices out of curiosity, how tight are the detents at 0, 22.5, 45, etc. On DeWalt and Makita saws they're very tight--you don't even need to lock it off. But when I tried the Bosch at the store it just seems sloppy. Moves a good 1/16". Not sure if that's HD people putting it together sloppy or if it's just got that slop. I expect the slop from a Harbor Freight saw. But when I'm spending $600, I expect more.
maybe Bosch should put this on their website, i just picked up this saw i am a beginner at woodworking its probably more saw than i need but i had just bought the Metabo 10 inch zero clearance miter saw, it is a good saw but at 399 plus tax 430 and change i saw this saw on marketplace for 500 brand new in box so for 70 more dollars i figured why not, i do like Bosch equipment i have their drill, impact wrench, jig saw, circular saw all 18 volt what i like about the circular saw is that the blade is to the left if that makes sense, great video.
@@BorsellinoHomeServices thanks that's why when I saw it listed I told him I was interested but I wasn't able to get to Lowes until the following day to return my Metabo he was fine it all worked out for 70 bucks difference better saw, I do have the Metabo 10 inch jobsite table saw and like it that was another good deal, holiday price at Lowes was 329 down from 529, two weeks later 299 so I got more cash back. Great videos also.
Appreciating the effort in doing this. I would make one recommendation, a more robust/rigid table would be better. The amount of motion would hinder your ability to get things set properly.
13:30 AEST . Can it be assumed the bevel lock pin has been applied (pushed in) prior to each adjustment ? It appeared pulled out , and not mentioned throughout video. Very well explained, thankyou
you talking about the pin that holds the blade in the downward position while i'm checking with a square? I do push that in and pull it out to hold the blade down versus holding the blade down with my hand. holding it manually could cause the saw to flex and be inaccurate although the reality is when you cut you're using your hand so maybe i shouldn't use the pin for adjusting.
Thanks very much. I’ve had such a hard time getting this saw square and kinda a piss off it doesn’t come calibrated properly for the price you pay. I’ve don’t this before and given up, but I’ll try it again!
I am not particularly happy with the saw. I only bought it because of the knuckle system so I could keep it set up in my trailer but it doesn't make good cuts even after precisely setting it up. Feels like I got ripped off...
@@BorsellinoHomeServices yes I feel the same. I too got it for the arm and low profile keeping it against a wall. I’m looking at getting a 12” non sliding mitre saw just for better more dependable cuts.
Thanks Excellent video - I have it square - but I can no longer lock in the 0 deg pin.....it seems that when I aligned it - the pin wont go in - it goes in for 30 deg bot not 45 or 0 - any suggestions
so you can't cut square??? I would just start taking stuff apart in the area the problem is until you figure it out. work backwards and keep track of what you took apart
Edit: after completely hating this saw for 8 years, I gave it another go at squaring and used the test cut over and over method you wound up with. Needless to say, first perfectly square cuts ever with this saw! Thank you for getting me to be more patient!!! Original: I have never in 8 years been able to get this saw square. Square all you want then pull the lever and it magically racks out of square. The absolute worst saw for me.
I'm glad that I was able to help you make your saw cut nice! I can't say I love this saw though I think it has too much wobble and deflection in the arm mechanism
I’m contemplating buying my first mitre saw. It’s either this or the Dewalt DWS780. I’ve been afraid of getting the Bosch because of this reason with the adjustments needed after cuts which sounds annoying but based on this comment, it’s seems the “cut over cut” method might do the trick. But then you’re mentioning wobble now?
My machine fell accidentally while moving it and the angles misaligned, and I've been so frustrated not knowing what to do, but I hope I'll be able to make a significant change after watching this video. Thank you
@@BorsellinoHomeServices I tried to do the adjustments, maybe not 100% to the original factory settings, but it seems much better than before I watched your video, because I was a little bit weary causing more misalignments. Thanks a mil for sharing your experience.
Great video and so helpful! When you adjusted the vertical bevel at 12:55 and went the wrong way, how did you get the blade back the other way? The vertical adjustment screw seems to only adjust the vertical bevel one way.
I saw a test where several shallow cuts (not all of the way through)were made on the sane board without moving the board; to check the repeatability (or reliability) of the cuts. with several consecutive passes, the cut got wider, demonstrating that there was flex in the glide system as it is moved back and forth. Have you checked that?
I haven't tried that but i believe it! I feel like there is waaaaaaaay too much play in the system. It's definitely not as heavy duty as my old dewalt with sliding rail system. I have to be very careful when making cuts to not pull it side to side
Added note: If you read the negative reviews on Bosch's website, you will find several who complain about the blade not tracking properly. I've also seen similar posts in several woodworker's forums. Many of these people either returned or sold their saws due to this unsolvable problem.
Was a bit disappointed that you didn't go into detail on how to set the stops for vertical. And what exactly those 2 little bolts do and how to adjust those.
Like you video. Still trying to figure out if the depth of cut can be easily set for cutting notches like my old Hitachi slide miter saw did with a thumb screw.
I made all the adjustments so blade is square with my precision engineer square. Made a cut, not square. Checked over and over, still the same result. Then I realized the rotating table is not flat. Any way to adjust that?
sweeeeeeeeeeeet! I don't think I've had to adjust mine since and it still cuts fairy straight. Although I'm disappointed in overall quality of the saw. It has inconsistencies in the cutting
My wife just purchased this miter saw for me for Christmas. I just hope I don't have to adjust anthing. Should it not be perfectly adjusted from the factory?
you'd think it would be adjusted but I'm convinced they just build them and ship them out. Mine was horrible when I received it and once I set it up once I haven't had to adjust it again. Although I don't use it a lot. If you use it a lot it will need periodic adjustments
I’m having trouble with both the handle to allow/unlock the angle right and left and you showed how to rectify that. But the bevel knob that allows tilt right and left is so impossible to turn I feel to force it will break it. How do I loosen this one?
hmmm, if i didn't cover it in this video then chances are I haven't adjusted it myself either. Just trace it backwards and see if you can find a nut or bolt or something somewhere
Hi, great video, thanks. Do you know how to adjust the laser lines? Mine seem to not match up with the blade - like .5 - .75mm out which is not good. Thanks - am getting a lot out of your content - am an apprentice carpenter in New Zealand.
My saw doesn't have a laser on it. Hmmm, I didn't even know that was an option. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying my videos! Let me know if there's anything specific that you're interested in me covering and I'll see if I can touch on it for you.
Yes you remove the large black cover from the top of the laser first then you adjust with an allen key on the side for side to side movement and the front top adjustment for angle. Bosch has a downloadable manual which covers this, but annoyingly only by pictures and no text.
Howdy, have just done the adjustment - easy. The adjustment screws are accessible without removing the cover - although the manual says a 2mm hex driver, it’s a 2.5 mm. Not a big deal but as far as accuracy of info in the manual goes it’s a problem ie what else is not correct? Anyway, thanks for the help.
@@BorsellinoHomeServices I’ve got the 18V model so it’s probably just an extra feature on a different saw. However all the adjustments you made are still the same on my saw as for yours.
You say this Bosch Saw is good and I purchased it on your recommendation but, have you measured the deflection when using it. I’m curious to know if you like many other owners have the same problem. Set the saw at 90° and cut a 12 inch piece of wood. It may be 90° at the fence but it is never 90° at the end of the cut. I called Bosch several times and there is no adjustment for this. The arms have too much play or deflection. Let me know if you have the same problem Thanks, Mitch
Yeah after owning it for a while I don't really like it for that exact reason. Hard to get a straight cut and it's very frustrating. I don't do much construction anymore so doesn't bother me enough to sell it and get another saw. I liked my old dewalt better but it couldn't be mounted in my trailer up against the wall which is the reason I got the Bosch. That and the Dewalt was broken so it had to be replaced. I think Makita or Hitachi makes a saw that can be up against the rail using traditional slide rails but they are mounted in the front of the saw instead of the back.
I returned the Bosch, there was too much deflection for fine carpentry work. I just purchased the Makita that you mentioned, I’ll let you know how it works
Bought mine the other day and the platform was not flat on the right side. When I put a straight edge it wobbles. I exchanged it and two other one are doing it toi except worse. Any idea what I should do other than sanding it down?
On my new Bosch GCM12SD, I have been trying to co-plane each fence to the other and have not been able to do so. If I get the left side or right side perfect with a machinist square the closest I can get it to align with the other fence is 1/32 to 1/16. In other words if I use a straight edge covering both fences completely I’m always off by at least 1/32. Are you seeing this problem?
yes. I don't think the metal is perfectly flat. I struggled to get this saw to setup perfectly and I'm disappointed in it. My old Dewalt Slider was way more accurate than this thing and I could get that perfectly square. I'm not happy with the Bosch
@@BorsellinoHomeServices Thank you very much for confirming what I see as a major flaw in the design of the Bosch GCM12SD. I had a replacement saw shipped to me. Immediately after unboxing the new saw I checked the fence co-planer alignment and it was off by 1/16 end to end on both fences. Between both the original saw and the replacement saw I spent endless frustrating hours trying everything I could to finesse the fences square to no avail. I was really hyped about getting this Bosch saw after reading so many positive reviews. Unfortunately, I didn’t give the proper attention to the negative reviews that did point out this exact flaw. I’m going to return this saw and try the Dewalt DWS780. Thanks again.
@@frankschimpf3212 That's a great saw. I had the DWS 782 but something happened to it and the arbor bent and started having blade wobble. I had it for a while and used it hard. It was a really great saw...
Great video ! Your probably thinking the same as me. You would think what you pay for this saw Bosch would have people squaring these up before hand. I realize that’s too much to ask. Thanks
You're absolutely right! I wish they would at least get it close! I had one guy tell me his was dead on, so everyone once in a while they must do it or it was just by chance?!
Have same saw and it’s getting really annoying doin high end work- cutting 12” plywood boards- cuts fine on a regular 90 soon as I tilt it on a 45 miter it pulls back at an angle out of square- I tilt the miter back up to 0 make another 90* cut and it cuts it fine , idk what’s goin on but I’m ready to give up on this thing and just get a new one
yeahhhhhhhhhh i'm having some issues with mine too... my old dewalt seemed much sturdier. The reviews all said this knuckle system was more accurate... but i'm not convinced...
I'm concerned that you aren't happy with this saw as I was pretty close to buying it. I'm going back and forth on whether or not to get a sliding saw or not. I'm planning on putting 8 inch baseboards in my home and want perfect corners. I'd be doing mostly trim work and am only considering a slider for the capacity potential if I need it down the road. I was also considering the dewalt dws780 but not sure I want to take up that much space for something I may not need much. Any advice?
Well if you're cutting 8" baseboards, you will need a slider I think. I have a 10" chop saw that doesn't slide and it can only cut 1x6 baseboard laying down, where a slider can cut 1x12 easily. I have had some time with this saw and once I've learned its quirks I am fairly happy with it. I owned the Dewalt DWS782 prior to this but it got damaged, the arbor got bent or something and I started getting blade wobble which then it made bad cuts, so I had to replace it. But prior to the damage is was an amazing saw and very well built. If I didn't need this knuckle system to have it fit in my mobile shop trailer then I would definitely go back to the Dewalt. Yes, When I first setup this saw and used it on my first job I was very unhappy with my purchase and had buyers remorse. After learning its quirks, I am more confident with it now, but still don't love it. The Dewalt (before it was damaged) cut amazing. I like to pull halfway through the board and then push the rest of the way back to the fence (it's just the way I was taught a long long time ago) and the dewalt always had great cuts. I cant do that with the Bosch, it seems to track funny. I'm very very particular with finish work and I don't 100% trust this saw if I had to do suuuuuuuuuuper high end stuff, but for every day finish carpentry it works just fine. I kinda wish I got the 10" version instead of the 12" though. I think the smaller blade might make nicer cuts and less potential for blade deflection but it limits what you can cut. I do occasionally cut framing lumber with it so the bigger blade was something I really wanted being that it can cut a 45 degree bevel on a 2x. So after all that, I think the dewalt is a really really great saw and it's less money than the bosch. But if you need the space behind the saw like me, there aren't many other options out there. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thank you for your input!! You have gotten me thinking about my specific needs. I won't be using a miter for framing, mostly for trim work... baseboards, wainscotting, trimmed accent walls, and maybe crown if my confidence increases. I'm starting to question if I even need a slider for these tasks or if a non sliding saw, say the Dewalt DWS716XPS would be better for accuracy since it's a non slider. I'm wondering what the accuracy is like with the Bosch when it's locked into the base and crown setting without sliding? The one feature of a sliding saw I'm wondering if I would find uses for is cutting grooves with the adjustable depth. Also, what is your take on shadow lights like the Dewalt xps? Thank you sir!!
@@DocRickJr Well a non-slider will definitely limit what you can do with the saw so be aware of that. I've never personally owned a non-slider, I just use the sliding capability way too often to even consider a straight up chop box. You asked about the accuracy of the Bosch in the locked position and I haven't tried that but now I'm intrigued... The adjustable depth could be handy but not something I can think of ever using. I'm not sure if the Bosch even has that feature or not. As for shadow lights, I had never heard of it so I just watched a video about them and they actually looks pretty amazing! I am not a fan of the red laser lights and whenever I use a saw with one it annoys me. But the shadow light seems way more accurate than the laser and it also lights up your work surface, which is huge for me considering I have my saw setup inside my trailer now. I'm wondering how well the shadow light would work outside on a sunny day though.

A little too far one way, not far enough, then too far, over and over. hahaha.
@@BorsellinoHomeServices Crap! I wish I saw that post. I actually have one of those lol.
You're a wonderful human being for making this video. I have a huge issue with my saw being out of square and this helped so much!
Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful! I hope you were able to get it all squared away. 😂😃😆 hahaha....squared away.....
My saw arrived with the adjustment bolts on the back of the saw tightened down. No way to bevel. You showed the quick adjustment and now the bevel mechanism works as it should. Thank You!!!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Just got “the saw” when I unboxed you provided me a “plan”, approach and metnod - thanks so much
Thank you for the video.
I'm seeing this a month later, have you had a chance to use it and get it set up? how do you like it?
Had to bodge a few mitres just now, was fed up with angles being off and found your video.
oh yeah always gotta set up new equipment. This saw was SOOOOO BAD when i bought it
Got frustrated with this mitre saw after some time.
Great video. You show the true exercise truing up a miter saw requires. Its not easy. Thanks again
Great job on the instructions. Much better than the booklet they sent with the saw. Made tuning mine up so much easier. Thanks again.
Nice! I'm glad it was helpful, thanks for letting me know!
I think you are angling for a job as a Bosch video teacher. Great job!! No bs, just
LOL That wouldn't be a bad gig! Bosch, if you're watching out there, hit me up!!! 😏
OMG! You are the only one being able to explain all the necessary steps in one cool video! I am German and after wasting so much time, I finally stumbled upon this!!! Thank you so much and all the best wishes to you
Thanks Gordon!!! I appreciate the kind feedback!!! 😊
Just got the saw. Did exactly as you explained. Cutting perfect squares every time!! You're awesome!!
This video is a great help.. i have same bosh model and same issues.. miter saw is brilliant in a way however must be precisely adjusted and here you are coming with your great tutorial!! Cheers
lol thank you! I still think the saw has flaws and doesn't cut to my satisfaction. Nothing like a tried and true rail system
Great video! Had mine for few years but always had to adjust it at the knobs. Now time to tune it properly
awesome! Glad it was helpful!

Awesome! Glad this was helpful!
This is truly the best video of the adjustment for the Bosch 12 GDL! Big thanks I will do it soon on my one, too
thank you! I've had a couple complaints about it but mostly positive feedback. Hope it helps!
Exactly what I needed. I have the same model and was dumb enough to assume it was cutting square. Thanks for the video!
Awesome! Well, not awesome that it doesn't come square.... awesome that it was helpful!
Damn!
Awesome demonstration I showed it to my Construction class and we ALL got some great tips.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for showing me how to adjust the lock from the rear of the saw. The wing was so tight it interfered with wide boards, now I can adjust it so that it is below the top!
Awesome! I'm glad it was helpful!!!
Mine came perfectly square out of the box. Like, scary square. Needs a little calibration now though, so I'm glad I found this video.
That's great! Mine was scary out of square! HAHA My guess was that they just built them and didn't adjust them before shipping, but maybe not?
Excellent video! I bought one of these after going through 2 yellow brand ones in 2 days. I love it but still need to tweek it a bit once the snow stops.
I have the Bosch GCM 12 GDL with the same problems, very grateful to you for the good explanation. I hope I can fix it. Keep it up. Regards from Chile.
You're welcome! I really hope this helps!
I ordered this Bosch today and will definitely check this out
thanks for this useful explanation.
Great straight forward adjustment guide. I really like all the comments on the saw too.
Thanks for the feedback! A bunch of people have said I didn't do the 45 adjustments clear enough so I hope you can figure it out!
*Great machine for the price! Pretty powerful **MyBest.Tools** and light to carry around the home. I definitely recommend this saw for any homeowner. Also, came with an extra blade. I was very satisfied with the overall quality and price.*
thanks for the input!
You say it's easy to carry around the house? I have one and it weighs 67 lbs. I carry my work to it. It is a great saw and mine came out of the box set up spot on.
I have this exact miter saw. Amazing tutorial brother! This will save me a lot of time tuning it up later today.
SWEET! How do you like it? I haven't really used mine much and I'm finding it hard to get used to and I'm not terribly pleased with the accuracy of the cuts. Like when I make a 45 degree bevel it makes a curve in the bevel so only the center of the board touches the other miter. It is so weird!
So howdo you like it??
@@BorsellinoHomeServices hmmm. Have you had problems with blade wobble? I hear that’s not uncommon for 12 inch blades. I used the classic dealt 12 inch for years with out that issue. I’ve used this saw for like 2 years now but not all the time and I notice that problem sometimes but not all the time. I figured it was operator error lol.
@@mo.ripples YES! I don't think it's operator error. I have issues with wobble on the 12" blade and honestly, I) wish I bought the 10" version instead of this monster.... awesome!!! Hopefully you get it nice and square now!
ATM my Glide is running true but so happy i found your video for future reference, Thanks from the UK
Awesome! Thanks for the comment!
This is a lot better than whacking the saw one way and, when that proves too far, whacking it in the other direction and hoping that you luck out.
is this what you're talking about? www.rockler.com/micro-adjuster-for-router-table-fence
I just can't for the life of me figure out how I would attach that to my saw to adjust the angle

I'm not happy with my 45° cuts. They do not end up making square. Hopefully after I do what you illustrated I'll have better luck
Speed square and the framing square are my go to Items to recalibrate. Never used the Tri square for this
yeah basically use whatever works for you. Framing squares can get out of square and you can recalibrate them so I always check left and right sides. And no square will be 100% dead on, or at least it's near impossible so always double and triple check everything every way you can :)
Just bought this saw today and really appreciate the tutorial. Legend cheers!!!
Thanks! I didn't like the saw at first but it is growing on me
I returned my first saw because it too was out of square and bevel was off and no matter what adjustments I did as per the manual, it was always off.
Nice!
DANG! Good price! I imagine I'm out of the timeframe where they would let me return it but maybe not??
Excellent video. I really appreciate you making this. It's going to help me adjust my saw. Thanks again!

Great video. Thanks for taking the time to record it.

I was debating Milwaukee or Bosch.
I believe the decision has been made Bosch.
i didn't know milwaukee made a space saving saw...

Thanks.
That video will save me time for my set up on mine! Thank you!!
Hope it helps! You're welcome
I got the same saw. Checked the angles setting it up like you should when you get a new saw and everything was perfect so IDK
Mine is extremely tight and difficult to turn.
hmmmm unless it's in this video, that's an adjustment I am unaware of...
Thank you! My saw too needs calibrated out of the box. It is cutting crooked like yours.
hope it helped cut better!
That broken wrench is about my experience with all of Bosch's products lately. Trading on the brand name and cheaping out on quality.
It's really too bad that that's where they cheap out... on the freakin alan wrench. Makes you wonder what else they cheap out on???
Cool! I hope you like it. $500 is a steal for this saw!

@@sflagg0817 sweet. thanks for the feedback! :)
Thanks from germany. Good job. You made my day!
Thank you
hopefully you didnt bend anything! My old dewalt fell once and was never the same after.
@@BorsellinoHomeServices I tried to do the adjustments, maybe not 100% to the original factory settings, but it seems much better than before I watched your video, because I was a little bit weary causing more misalignments.
Thanks a mil for sharing your experience.
I would tighten those bolts down like a car tire. Switch back and forth between the sides and tighten them a little at a time.
good tip!
Great video and so helpful! When you adjusted the vertical bevel at 12:55 and went the wrong way, how did you get the blade back the other way? The vertical adjustment screw seems to only adjust the vertical bevel one way.
not sure. I made the video 3 years ago and haven't had to adjust it since
I saw a test where several shallow cuts (not all of the way through)were made on the sane board without moving the board; to check the repeatability (or reliability) of the cuts. with several consecutive passes, the cut got wider, demonstrating that there was flex in the glide system as it is moved back and forth.
And what exactly those 2 little bolts do and how to adjust those.
oh man sorry bout that. You're the first person that's mentioned it. Are you talking about the stop to adjust the cutting depth?
I just left a comment, I assume.the stop (pin) was in lock position prior to adjustments ?
Like you video. Still trying to figure out if the depth of cut can be easily set for cutting notches like my old Hitachi slide miter saw did with a thumb screw.
thanks ralph! yeah I'm not 100% sure but I don't think so. Just one stop fully down for transport.
Thank you so much for this tutorial it will come In Handy !
Absolutely! Hope it helps!
I made all the adjustments so blade is square with my precision engineer square. Made a cut, not square. Checked over and over, still the same result. Then I realized the rotating table is not flat. Any way to adjust that?

Thanks for making the video, very informative.
You're very welcome! Thanks for the comment!
Hi mate. Do you have to adjust also any other angle or just those that you show in the video?
Thank you for your help
I think I went over all the adjustments this saw has but there is a possibility I missed something
@@oo0Spyder0oo thanks! I’ll try this on the weekend and let you know.
Let me know if you have the same problem
Thanks, Mitch
So thankful for your video!
You're very welcome!
for accurate 45deg and 90, i learned you can get a cheap plastic drafting 45. I use it for setting tools before getting engineer squares
good to know thanks!
Bought mine the other day and the platform was not flat on the right side. When I put a straight edge it wobbles. I exchanged it and two other one are doing it toi except worse. Any idea what I should do other than sanding it down?
I'm not sure. I think mine is a little out like that too. The saw isn't manufactured to perfection, which drives me crazy
Saludos desde Ecuador felicitaciones por su compra y por compartir,, pregunta que origen de fabricación es dicha máquina??,,y si tiene Lacer
sorry i don't speak your language
Great instructions - thanks so much.
you are very welcome!
many thanks very useful info mate.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
