The last time I drove through Montreal I was on my way to Mont Tremblant to do some skiing. But, my friend SEBEDIT, my mother was born in Massena, NY. She went to college in Potsdam. When my father returned from Japan after WWII, he enrolled in an engineering program at the Clarkson College of Technology, which is also in Potsdam, NY. My mother and father met at a dance hall in Potsdam, and were soon married. After two years of college in Potsdam, my newlywed parents moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where my father continued his studies at Carnegie School of Technology, which is now Carnegie-Mellon University. My sister was born in 1950, and she now lives near Daytona Beach, Florida. I was born in 1953, and except living in western New York for 8 years, I have made Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania my home. But I have cousins, nieces and nephews living in and around the Adirondack Mountains. I too enjoy the final two SD albums. I love the first four songs on Everything Must Go. I read Donald Fagen watched his mother die a slow and painful death. That experience is somewhat veiled in the song “Godwhacker.”
Once again, all of us who have discovered your SD productions on UA-cam owe you a debt of gratitude. I agree, you would be the perfect rhythm guitarist in a Steely Dan tribute band. But don’t sell yourself short. As evidence of your hard work and boundless dedication to SD, I am confident you could work the solos and the fills. On tour, Jon Harington did a fine job. But it certainly would be a challenge to replicate the licks of guys like Jay Graydon and Larry Carlton.
I have always loved the guitarist of TOTO, Steve Lukather. My wife Lynda and I had the fortune to attend three shows in two years. For one concert we purchased VIP tickets, allowing us to hang out for sound check, a question and answer session, and photos. Lukather told me he always wanted to play with SD. But Luke is now guitarist for Ringo Starr’s All-Star Band. If this damn virus gets under control, the All Starr Band should be in Pittsburgh in June, before the new TOTO heads to Europe.
I am the one who is flattered by you responding to my comments. I rarely comment, but what you have done, what you are doing, and what you plan to do is a gift most of us hardly deserve. I’m offering you and a companion an all expenses paid visit to our home. But Lynda and I would ask you to play. We can work on details when the boarders open and the virus is behind us.
