- School of Rock Allstars Team 2 cover Steely Dan "My Old School" @ JBTV Chicago Illinois 7/30/2015. Connor Low on lead guitar, find more from him here- / connorlowmusic and here-connorlow.com/
Amazing lead guitar by Connor Low. He is definitely skilled and will go far.
Wow, a surprisingly tight rendition of a pretty complex arrangement. I 'm very impressed and glad to see these young folks turning to Steely Dan for inspriation.
I know I'm getting old when I'm wishing the pretty girl would get out of the way so I can see the guitar.
I was thinking the same but if the guitarist was going to be blocked, let it be by her.
here's another performance of it (same group, different venue looks like):

Appreciate a cutie pie, with great pipes! You can hear him.. love this! Hard to pull off this cover… these kids, are kids! Lol
Said…. No one…. Ever!
@@user-mk7yw2jc3p lusten to the Lexington lab band play this song. You won't be disappointed.
Jesus! Is that Skunk Jr. on lead?!? The whole band knocked it out! Bravo!
I have seen everyone from Steely Dan to my brothers band to myself play this song and this is the best it has ever been played! Period! It was the full package, from the perfect note by note lead and added awesome licks at the end, the Sax's, Keys intro, awesome handsome guy singing perfect lead to the gorgeous sexy front girl, Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man that kid can play that guitar!!
Just to see younger generation do this kinda stuff is awesome : Ihope all of you have carried on
I'll soon be 78 and I love this!
Picked a great and tough song and nailed it.. great rendition… the guitar player really “gets” skunk for sure.. outstanding
WOW, guitar guy has it all. He is definitley the star of that show!
Tom Beaudreau yes he is, too bad the young lady is blocking him playing
@@michaelclement1529 I cover this song. I totally agree, and the gorgeous front girl did her job perfect. They all did their job perfectly, form the into on keys, sexy front girl, handsome lead vocals front man, to the amazing lead guitar that played the song note for note and added to it at the end. Simply perfect! I love our youth, as they are the greatest generation ever to walk this planet! And I'm a boomer, the stupidest generation to occupy this planet!
@@michaelclement1529 Blame the person with the camera, they are filming from the side vs the front where you can see more. It's not the musicians' fault.
Great stuff, guys. So great to see the "youngsters" keeping this music alive.
I would like this more times than once if UA-cam would let me. Great job!
brother on the 6 string was channeling the skunk HARD.
what a fantastic rendition.
Great performance, but it could have used a little more cowbell...
Everything needs more cowbell
Jt’s, are you by chance Christopher Walken?
@@Rahfah007 Bruce Dickinson, yes THE Bruce Dickinson.
Outstanding!
Love it
WOW--outstanding job!!! couldn't be more impressed - thank-you
Guitar player … u da man, bro !!!!
Definitely rock it out and do the song justice, the brass is spot on. Vocals and guitar are superb.
The best song from the best album. Walter and Donald looked back on their younger days. The B-side of the single, "Pearl Of The Quarter", is also a classic.
I gotta tell ya .... that was great!
So so so damn good!
These kids are so talented and they just walk off stag like they are simply changing classes at school!
Great Steely Dan song you guys did a great job.
By far this is the best all around of all the School of Rock teams. The rhythm is great, the horns are good, and the guitar player is seriously talented. I love seeing young people playing so well. I hope someone tells the guitar player to get serious and show off his talent somehow. He's really something, I hope he develops his talent and down the line we see him again. Maybe he'll be the next Jeff Beck.
Bravo kids you are amazing!
Sharon Tate Doppleganger. Wow!
Love this song!!! Great job
AbsafuckinglutelyAmazing!!!!
(New compound word)
The guitarist is awesome. Great job to all
i’m sure the SOC costs a fortune to send one’s kid to, so how come their performances always sound like they were recorded on a 1976 panasonic cassette machine ? the musicians and singers deserve so much better.
Dunno about fortune. Maybe a couple hundred dollars, tops. Less than private lessons for the same amount of time. And private lessons usually are a bargain for what you get. The recording here is probably not from the console, but from a cell phone, standing closer to one PA than another. The guitar is high in the mix, which is actually good!
Bloody superb!!
The kid on lead is a savage
what awesome timing between the guitar and horns, Hank Eastman or some one ,he is great guitar!!
Nice job!
guitar dude is awesome...along with the ladies.
Wow Just a great job there Im sure Skunky would love this
The genius of this 1973 classic was the instrumental duel between Jeff "Skunk" Baxter's lead guitar and Jimmie Haskell's brilliant horn arrangement. Guitarist Connor Low does Baxter proud with this performance.
Props to School of Rock Charlotte's Brad Williamson as part of the horn section.
so good...that kid on the guitar could bring back the dead!
Wow,.kudos guys,.kids man, incredible,.look at that . Keep going, horn section, vocals, guitar,.keyboard, percussion, timing good, I agree the volume,.but setting up sound can be tricky, depending on the venue, equipment, but the delivery, in the spirit of the song, everybody knew their point, and were on point. Peace ✌
That lead guitarist could be John Harrington's--of Steely Dan--son!
They should be taking this opportunity to teach some of these kids about audio engineering. There is obviously talent there but it sound like hell. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed it. :)
vocals sounded good. too bad they were too low
You are tone deaf
Not low, muddy
Needed to be turned up in the mix
The vocals are good I think the mix is not so great. Sometimes that’s just where the mics are placed another times they get a lousy soundman or bad equipment
That guitar player is pretty damn good too!!!
that guys got it!
wow
That guitarist nailed that solo
If this was team 2, what did team 1 sound like????
There's lots of video of Team 1 from this show too. Just search my channel Team 1 at JBTV
That was specFREAKINGtacular! Any chance you’re still together?
Play it, "Skunk"! . . .
More cowbell!
Who sings the female backup center stage? Name please?
Sophie
Connor Low on guitar is great, but who is the hot blonde singing?
Tight like a tiger
Who is that kid on the guitar? Great job all.
There has got to be a way to fix the sound. I'm not an expert but perhaps remixing or remastering this video would do justice to these kids. They are awesome, to say the least.
Just watched a recent Skunk Baxter performance. These kids blew him away, especially the guitar player.
Lead would skunk it up
Guitar Player is a Ripper!!!
Great job! Lead guitar is great. All did a terrific job. Lead vocalist was excellent but mic wasn’t loud enough. Back up vocals great too
Ok, so... first guitar solo, the cute girl turns her back to the camera to block the view of the guitar player's fingering.
Can't I see either the cute girl or the guitar player?
great job, but wish I could hear the vocals :(
Guitariste surdoué !
Great performance but too bad the sound isn`t.
You guys are obviously really good, BUT the sound quality of this video was really BAD. Sorry, all counts.
Great performance, the recording isnt great, most of the SOR videos have better sound.
Not bad at all. Thats not an easy song...
School of Rock! Hahahaha
Great musicianship, whoever on the mixer needs some schooling. Loved it nonetheless.
The singers need to learn how to belt out sound without the need for a microphone. They're too quiet.
First-class effort! Need somebody else running the sound board to deal with the dodgy acoustics, and as for the girl singer.........................wow!
Great guitar work, But that is NOT what Steely Dan wanted. They wanted a stacatto tight sound to match the plunk of the piano, as a counterpoint to the flow of the chorus. Unfortunately the song DOES sound better with a looser, flowing guitar, but Steely Dan where well know perfectionists and contrarians.
What fungsional a girl 😂
Drums are too loud.
Needs more cowbell
This is very weak. Great song. Unfortuneately, the band looks boerd and like they were forced to play it and did not want to. There is no joy/soul/rock here- it looks like a pop quiz to them or a class project ehre everyone hated the tpic as well as each other. The guitarist is skilled and carried the band until his showboating at the end. The production is also poor. Compare this to a well done cover by school of rock: ua-cam.com/video/QwlRGS0xEVA/v-deo.html -
Like the guitar player but REALLY need to control the noise. Kicks the dist and the buzz level goes through the roof. Less gain, less noise. Been doing this my whole life kid- turn it down or get a new kit!
PS- you are freaking good though!
This encourages me to have a little faith in our youth. This kid playing guitar wasn't even born when this song was released and yet, he literally rocked it. Very cool.
Their parents might not have been born.🤯
Guitar player is seriously talented... even Skunk would be amazed I’m sure.
Ah, so that was a Skunk thing. Remember Doonesbury, back when?
I love these Steely Dan cover bands.
So nice to hear the younger generations doing classic songs 🎵 👌 🙌 ❤ 😍 💕
he doesn't seem to be sweating it at all either; like a walk in the park for him.
🔥🔥🔥
Don’t forget the dude on the cowbell.
Ive seen a lot of renditions of this song and i can say the guitar player here is certainly the most talented.
Some fine musicianship for a bunch of kids... Impressed. Great guitar solo!
gross understatement! I am sure you agree
The Lead Guitarist should be touring with Steely Dan. Any objections?
I assure you it took several takes for the lead on the original version! You can bet the farm this guy can play with anyone he so desires and it isn't just Steely Dan songs he is crushing!
Definitely 👍
He certainly played with the same intensity as the original, great job.
He's got great chops, but he's covering a great existing solo. Awesome! I'd be interested to see what he can do on his own terms. Not hating, loved his performance.
He's a pretty epic "Skunk" Baxter kinda guy!
Bravo! Great that kids that age are playing complex material!
Put the drummer a couple of houses down the street.
Looks a bit like That 70’s Show...putting on a concert...
The children are our future! LOL! If they can pull off a great rendition of a Steely Dan song, I am encouraged! It's 2023, so hopefully, all these kids are in bands all over the place.
There is hope for the future. This guitar player has better instinctive feel than Baxter, could some day stand in for Jon Herington.
more volume on the voices.
More clarity
Nice playing kids but what did we really learn from this? Never... ever... ever... let the guitar player's mom run the mixing board!
How many are in the band? A dozen? Lol
Supposedly, a female acquaintance ratted out Walt and Don at Bard College ("Annandale"), leading to a drug bust. The local prosecutor at the time, "Daddy G.", was G. Gordon Liddy, of Watergate fame.
Or something like that.
How do you know this ?
@@lenzotrumpet See Donald Fagen's account of the incident in "Back to Annandale" in Entertainment Weekly. The May 1969 bust at Bard involved some 44 people.
You will see more of that guitarist in the future. On stage.
I'm impressed that the horn players had those backgrounds memorized. They're off in the mix, but some of those parts are tricky.
I've got one thing to say about the lead guitarist, YOUR HIRED, How much you want!!!
Not bad, but the boy fronting the band on the mike should have went over the lyrics before he sang the song. It was a real life story for Donald Fagan. Either he needed to put more effort in his vocals or had sound push his slider up.
This might be the worst mix I've ever heard on a UA-cam music number. Lead and backup vocals are muddy and barely audible. School of Rock kids are talented people - Connor Low, for example - but not well-served by this.
Okay, yeah, she's beautiful. But the camera person should have shown the drummer at least once!
sorry, not very well mixed; vocals too low, percussion too high. ( I see others have made similar comments)
Okay band members first time reaction from me first comment wanting to chick to move oh no I almost broke my screen trying to get to that🎥 and trust me on this one find the original recording not on someone's phone or otherwise re-record this cleaned up I would love to hear that awesome stuff keep it up
Very impressive performance!
