Listen to this at least once every few days and it's such a bloody perfect debut of the song. The drums, voice, rhythm guitars, and bass are absolutely brilliant, not to mention the whole video just screams peak 90s era. Fantastic stuff

Oasis were absolutely on fire from '94 to '96, they had the songs, the swagger, they were fantastic live, their debut album was an all time classic, quickly followed by another brilliant one, Liam was a fantastic frontman - everything they touched turned to gold up until '97. They pretty much single handedly changed the direction of popular culture of Britain in the decade - before this, dance music was still pretty much ruling, then after Definitely Maybe the charts were full of indie rock. Everyone else was in their slip stream though, they were that good. I was a teenager that was only into dance until then but they totally converted me. The confidence of their first TV performance here is just fantastic.
but this isn't indie rock. Blur, Suede, Elastica and a whole slew of britpop bands had already blazed a trail and opened it up for bands like Oasis. This is old fashioned pub rock, very tradition but unheard of since the 70s. That's why it sounded so fresh and raw in 1994/95.
@@juniorramone4654 Supersonic is not ‘pub rock’. Obviously you’re not a fan of Oasis in any way to use that term. Noel Gallagher wrote loads of great songs, Paul McCartney and David Bowie both said he was a great songwriter. The bands you mentioned that were around before Oasis ripped off other bands just as much as Oasis, it’s so hypocritical to give them a pass but with Oasis call it plagiarism. Elastica actually got sued by The Stranglers and Wire for so blatantly ripping them off. They had some decent songs but there was nothing original about them whatsoever. Suede were heavily influenced by Bowie and 70’s glam. If Oasis were ‘pub rock’, then Blur with their mockney knees up singalongs like Country House and Parklife definitely were.
I'm a huge fan of Oasis. Saw them relatively unknown at Glasto '94, and when they headlined in '95, as well as the legendary Earls Court dates. When I say "pub rock" it was the style of performance that was around more in the late 70s/early 80s, before all the late 80s dance bollocks. The indie bands i mentioned were knowing middle class types - all camp poses and Dostoevsky. None of them had the working class swagger of Oasis. "Pub rock" was a journalistic term for more tradition rock combos that are firmly working class and gritty. Think Dr Feelgood and Eddie and the Hotrods.@@lucasm3879
@@juniorramone4654 OK I understand you’re using the term ‘indie’ in the more purist sense, like the early 90’s Creation style of guitar music, Teenage Fanclub, Boo Radleys, Ride and other ‘shoegaze’ bands etc - if so fair enough. I was just using indie as a loose catch all term for mid 90’s British guitar music. I probably wouldn’t use it now tbf. I still find it a little surprising if you’re a fan of Oasis to class them under a term as derogatory and reductive sounding as ‘pub rock’. I’m pretty sure the band would hate that term, they always called themselves straight rock n roll, openly wearing their influences of The Stones, Pistols, The Who and obviously The Beatles. But if you’re a fan fair enough, labels don’t really mean anything at the end of the day as long as you enjoy the music 👍✌️
