In my opinion one of the most impressive things about oasis - particularly Liam - was their ability to play a small pub before they got famous and make it seem like Wembley stadium. They had a complete lack of self-awareness in the best way possible, and always took the music they were playing completely seriously (can you imagine playing rock n’ roll star in front of maybe 4 other people, and meaning every word you’re singing? There’s something awesome about that.) This video is a great example. In retrospect, I think their lack of insecurity or self-awareness might have been what made them stick out and seem so refreshing in the 90s, which for better or worse was a decade that emphasized irony.
They couldnt care less if its a small pub or 30k stadium. The lack of self awareness is really what separates them, especially liam. Agree with you on that.
i think the "lack of self awareness" was literally just not giving a single fuck, particularly Liam, but that in itself takes so much confidence and self belief. He's the only singer I've ever seen who just gives all his energy into the microphone, and the rest of the time is quite happy to just stand still and do nothing, as if to say "yeah, what do you think about this?" Like he just didn't give any ounce of awkwardness at all, like he knew he was the shit. Imagine just singing and not playing an instrument. What the fuck do you do with your hands? It's fucking easy to look super awkward. He was like fuck it, put his arms behind his back and the rest of the time just stood there staring at the crowd. Insane.
I think this was one of the ones that 'couldn't' be an A-side without a bit of trouble, as the verse melody is blatantly lifted from Wham's "Freedom"...I mean, that was part of Oasis' charm; their borrowing and fusing and re-channeling of older sounds and techniques, but as I remember, this song caused them a fair bit of trouble even as a b-side
@@BradThePitts Sure! I can certainly try. Okay, so go over to this vid: ua-cam.com/video/uvUm1666pjE/v-deo.html Now, skip up tp 0:15 seconds in. Basically, right where that starts, you've got to forget about all the big 80's keyboards and horns etc, try and just listen to the actual hummable, sing-along melody. Over that part, right along with it, try singing along "Fade Away": "When I was young I thought I had my own key / I knew exactly what I wanted to be...". I think you'll find that it fits EXACTLY in place, just like you were singing over the actual Oasis song.

I always looked at Noel and saw him as a superior musician to the rest in the band but they're all top notch playing together with the Gallagher brothers bringing the heights of each tune with their union. Perhaps I just saw more solo performances by Noel early on. Different types of flavours of the same style strawberry lemonade

Well said!
How did the '90s 'emphasise irony'? (Thought that was what the '80s did tbh.)

Agree. V festival Morning Glory is so massive that they could've had a million people there and turned it up to infinity.
Liam sounds like an angel.
Ashraf Nursal His voice was awesome.
An angel totally drugged😌
He's whiney as can be imagined. Effeminate as hell. I can't fathom how he always thought himself a tough guy and sang like that.
he can sing it effortlessly doesn't need to try

I couldn’t agree more!
110%
Love the way he says settle for at 2:16
The best bit is Noel's harmony on the verse just before.

Everytime i hear this that vocal at 2:16 gets me amazing one of the best Liam vocals I've heard
Fowwwhawww
Me too
This is why Liam was the best frontman of the decade!
This, gentlemen, is what I call a masterpiece.
Class tune Better version in Barrowlands 2001.
Your right

😂 Listen to The Real People.
Oasis Punk Rock!!!
Oh this voice.........just perfect
Absolutely nailed it there Liam!
2:15 wow
Cian McGivern He always did it that way live. Shame they dumbed down the studio version slightly but still one of their best tunes.
This is Prime Liam gallagher right there guys, his voice is so clean and powerful here its truly amazing.
This energy can never fade away
Bow this is the BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE imo! Nothing beats this version!
When I was young
I thought I had my own key
I knew exactly
What I wanted to be
Now I'm sure
You've boarded up every door
Lived in a bubble
Days were never ending
Was not concerned
About what life was sending
Fantasy was real
Now I know much about the way I feel
I'll paint you the picture
'Cause I don't think
You live round here no more
I've never even seen
The key to the door
We only get what we will settle for
While we're living
The dreams we have as children fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children fade away away away
They fade away away away
Now my life has turned
Another corner
I think it's only best
That I should warn you
Dream it while you can
Maybe someday I'll make you understand
I'll paint you the picture
'Cause I don't think
You live round here no more
I've never even seen
The key to the door
We only get what we will settle for
While we're living
The dreams we have as children fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children fade away
While we're living
The dreams we have as children fade away away away
They fade away away away
They fade away away away
Fade away away away
😍
You'd better behave yourselves during this one
The fuck hero! Thanks!.
The ultimate Oasis. It never got better than this. Hail Tony McCarrol!
Amazing sound
Liams singing is perfect enough but this is some of the best little jump in bits from Noel he ever did
Never thought I’d hear an angel sing. Ever.
1:55 to 3:00 is just chills
Liam RULES! What a voice!
Liam looks like an angel and sounds like an angel...
“And you better behave yourselfs during this one” how can you when the guitar intro starts 😂
