- Seiko goes back to some original sizing, with 28mm watches geared towards the lady's market. Not only smaller, but also automatics with day and date. Our customers have been asking for lady sized autos for years, and finally Seiko delivers!

Water resistant ladies watches are very thin on the ground but automatic as well? Almost unheard of. I think it's a real winner.

As a woman who is into horology and can't comfortably wear anything over 39mm (sometimes 40mm), I really appreciate the smaller dial options. I love the wide variety of large sports watches but can't wear most of the ones I love because they are just too chunky on my wrist. Yay for Seiko!

I think the next one they should do is 34mm! The middle point between 40mm and 28mm, would be a lot better for those of us who want a slimmer and smaller watch without going too tiny.
The market would likely be bigger for a 36 or 37.

@@islandwatch I used to love my SNK809. 34-37mm is perfect for a discrete beater. 28mm can also work. Timex Marlins are also great discrete beaters. I might buy this if Seiko gets the fit and finish right...
Totally agree on the 34mm size -- I have a 6.5" wrist and have a Rolex OP 34 and works great!
I love that Seiko is offering a smaller auto, I wish other brands would do the same. My dream is a smaller automatic diver since I love the timing bezel, but all the options I've seen are either too big or have diamonds/other bling which is just not my thing. My dream would be an automatic diver around 34mm and a lug to lug around 40mm, but so far no dice. This gives me some hope that maybe it will be made one day.
Longines makes a Hydro Conquest diver that's 34mm. I don't think its automatic though, they might have an automatic version of it. Worth checking out!

@@MatChouMibu an eco-drive watch isn't an automatic watch. They are two completely different things, it's like comparing apples too oranges. Anyone looking for an automatic watch doesn't want an eco-drive watch.

It's the same watch as a normal mens watch, just smaller.
I think it is a great idea. My wife has really tiny wrists and 28MM is perfect for her. The only other 28MM autos I was able to buy her were Rolexes, so this would be good for a daily driver for her to wear to work.

@@Strideo1 anytime someone tells me a 36mm is a lady size or a dealer tries to sell me a 36 for my wife I laugh in their face. 36 looks absolutely ridiculous on my wife’s wrist. The largest a petite feminine woman can wear is a 34mm. A 36 on a small woman’s wrist looks like she might as well be wearing a 44mm 😂
@@DW94576 That's true. My wife's wrist is tiny compared to mine. 33-30mm would probably be about right for her for a sports watch.
It’s about time that there were automatics for women. Every time my wife and I look at watches, the women’s designs are all quartz and covered in bling, from small brands to Omega and Rolex, they all do it. Nothing wrong with quartz but the diamonds/bling!
She has a Phoibos Sea Nymph, but it took years for us to find her a decent automatic - a Seiko Cocktail Time 😃

Damn…it’s about time Seiko released automatic sports watches for those with small wrists. All we had up to that point were the 33mm Cocktail Times, which were dress watches in limited dial/color combinations. Seemed Seiko was hellbent on neglecting the female market.
As a woman with barely 5 inch wrists, it really sucks being a watch enthusiast but not able to participate because 99% of the watches marketed to women are either quartz, covered in blingy shit, in awful pastel colors, are boring basic 3-handers, have whimsical childish designs, are too small, are too big, or a combination of the above.
I currently have a sizeable collection of automatics and manuals in the 26mm-34mm size range (with 34mm being the biggest I can wear), but it was the result of over 14 years of collecting and searching. So glad these are in 28mm…that’s pretty much my personal sweet spot, give or take. Just wish they had exhibition casebacks too.
Put in my order for the blue and brown dial ones today and can’t wait to get them. Hope Seiko will also create more colorways of this model in the future. A full black PVD one would be sweet.
Thank you! I try to explain to people all the time that 36mm is too big for most petite feminine women, a lot of women need 34mm or smaller! Offering a 36 does not mean they’re offering a proper ladies size.
@@DW94576 It's not so much about being "feminine" as it is just simply about being proportional for the person and wearing a watch comfortably without having it look and feel like you're wearing a satellite dish on your wrist. I'm a skinny and short woman - 5'2" with 5-inch wrists - and it sucks to love horology but be unable to participate. I've been collecting watches for 16 years now, ever since my teens, and I can say that generally speaking, anything 36mm and over (round case) will have lugs that overhang my wrist. There are lots of petite women like me out there in the world; it's bizarre how our demographic has been completely ignored by the watch industry. There are a few companies and microbrands offering more 36mm sizes nowadays, and it's awesome if they fit taller/bigger women, but to me it seems like these companies are "playing it safe" and their 36mm lines are intended to be a smaller men's option (but label the watches as "unisex/women's" so they can pretend to be inclusive of the female market). I would like to see more mechanical watch options in the 29mm to 34mm size range - divers, chronographs, pilots, and so on. But currently, almost none exist. Guess I'll just have to start my own watch company, since the watch industry has no interest in catering to this demographic anytime soon...
I just opened my SRE003 and I love it! As a proud member of the Itty Bitty Wrist Committee, it’s refreshing to see autos and good looking dials in these small sizes. 36mm & up start to look “ridiculous” on me and that’s typically where all horological love goes. This line also worked really well for couples watches!
It’s me. I’m the audience. I have teeny tiny wrists, and I bought the white dial two tone bracelet. I can’t wait for it to arrive!! I bought it somewhat blindly, since I hadn’t seen your video yet and yours seems to be literally the only one. Thank you so much for making it! The only thing that annoys me about this watch is that the back isn’t transparent on this small version, but it is on the mens. I wanna see it, dang it!
I think the color combination of that 006 is very attractive. Like others have mentioned, it’s nice to see watches geared towards women that aren’t cluttered with a bunch of gemstones.
it's about time for Seiko to reintroduce modern automatics dress in 34-36mm for their affordable range. Good for unisex watch.
I think they'll be a hit, mainly due to watch/Seiko enthusiasts buying them as gifts for partners who would otherwise go for a fashion brand. Exactly what I've just done...

I would try it. I think the main reason, as you point out, that women usually wear watches in the 30 mm range, is that there isn't anything much smaller available except "dress" watches which are just meant to look pretty and not really meant to be able to see the time. I'd definitely like to try one on, especially that first one on the bracelet. Thanks for the video!

As someone with only a 150mm wrist. I appreciate this a lot. I bought the SRE004K1. It's wonderful. I would have liked something in the early 30mm diameter, under 40mm lug to lug would be great too. Hopefully we'll see more!
I love all 4 of them. They look amazing especially the taupe and blue. I dig the size a lot, I dunno why there aren't more small watches, especially mechanical automatic.
Not for me (my 40mm SRPE fits me perfectly), but I really like that Seiko has made these, as I think they'd be great for women who want a great automatic watch (since most smaller ones always seem to be limited to quartz). Will definitely remember these to recommend them if anyone asks.
As a female with a 6.5 in wrist, this watch is dam perfect ! Beautiful finish and it's so comfortable to wear.
It's classically stylish and doesnt feel obnoxiously oversized or chunky like most smart watches or any classic mens watch.
I feel theres definitely a market for smaller watches as more and more women are beginning to buy non-fashion brand watches.
28mm to 36mm seems to be the sweet spot for womens watches.
These are so well executed. If they brought out a unisex 35mm I’d consider getting one. They would appeal to men and women.

I think my wife would love the two-tone as a going-out watch. She has the ISL-37, which is her daily, and an Orient Bambino 36mm for formal wear. This would be a perfect complement for her.

I have an antique trench watch about that size I wear occasionally. I love the feel of a small watch.
As a woman who prefer mechanical watches and have a baby-like wrist... i don't want this watch , i NEED this watch.
The only think that for me is looking odd is the leather glossy finish strap.. in my opinion it screams "buy me a nato strap" or even better if they sell It for like 20/30 euro less with it.

Omg i just got a 28mm Quiksilver watch, it's like a miniature SKX but quartz and crappy lume. Now with this i can get a proper dial, movement and caseback! Planning in modding it into a real baby tuna!

It looks so cute XD and as per the color variations, I REALLY hope that they release the chocolate dial and the white dial two tone in 40mm or 38mm. I would take them in a heartbeat.

As someone with a smaller wrist whose grandpa always wore nice, small watches: yes! I can't tell you how excited I was when I got your email, because I just bought a 36.5mm Traska Commuter and was even thinking it could look nice if it was smaller. A small, respectable unisex watch is hard to come by, especially if you're looking for an automatic.

Honestly I think that the move towards smaller watches can only be a good thing (please god anything except the return to the oversized watches trend). If they release one in dark colours without gilt I'll definitely pick one up

I never much attributed size of watches to genders. I'm 5'11" with 6.25 inch wrists and despite owning watches between 37mm and 45mm I always find myself coming back to my digital Casio watch which I believe is 33mm. Lightweight and comfiness take priority over size for me and I think I can definitely rock these. That being said, I can see how it might look a little odd on someone with bigger wrists but live your life and wear what you want ⏱

Yea I always thought gendering a watch is silly. I gladly click on "ladies" watch sections at websites. Mother of pearl looks good for anyone. Size is just a comfort and readability factor.
And 100 years ago, watches for men were quite small, and some for women were tiny.

Thank you for introduction!!! As a watch enthusiast bought one 004 for my wife here in Austria (ordered rom Germany), but it doesn't say "Made in Japan" on Back and front. Even "Movt Japan" is missing, just the numbers of the movement, etc. I assume it's completely made in China? Otherwise the quality is really fine, nice bracelet (comparing with my Alpinist). Hope the accuracy of the movement will be ok, at least not faster or slower than Seikos official one.
I think it was a good idea, it brings a different audience to the hobby. Especially if parts are made to customize them which is what makes the NH/4R platform very popular.

I'm a guy with 6inch wrists and can wear a 30mm vintage Timex comfortably. These are a tad smaller, but maybe can still work for me. Regardless, I'm happy to see smaller watch sizes and that the large watch trend is calming down.

In my opinion, anything larger than a 34 is too big for most fit women. If a woman can pull off a 36+, that's not a small woman... I think Seiko is genius for offering a true ladies watch.
While I don't wear them much now, my old dress watch is a mid-80s Seiko quartz that is around 30mm, and also own a gold square Pulsar from that time period. I don't wear many quartz watches these days, the Bulova Lunar Pilot might be the one I put on most frequently, or a Henry London Moonphase that became my goto dress watch.

If I had to name colors, that last one is Pearl White strap with Pearl Silver or Mother-Of-Pearl dial. Excited to see more enthusiast-oriented watches coming in smaller sizes. I have a similar sized wrist to yours, I typically prefer watches under 40mm, or at least ones that wear like it (like Flightmaster).

I like the 005 - the grey one. On Seiko's site the hands are gold and the indices are silver and it look wrong. Looks much better, the version you have there. I might get this for my Mrs.

I love it. Love the idea, love the colors, love the case design. It’s a bit small for me, even though I am a lady! What can I say? I’ve gone big (36-39) and I can’t go back. 😆 Would be sorely tempted by a 36mm of this DressKX. And this would be a fantastic gift for wives, sisters, daughters, etc…

Just goes to show that watch size doesn’t have anything to do with gender. It’s all about the wrist size, body size, and height of the person that determines whether the watch will look proportional on them. And of course, their own personal tastes are a factor as well.
@@vanizorc That’s very true. I’m 6’1 with a seven inch wrist but still enjoy “smaller” watches. It’s all preference. Folks with a 6 inch wrist feel weird if they are wearing anything smaller then a 40mm. 🤷♀️

The women I know who wear a watch and not a smartwatch or fitness tracker prefer quartz. Pick it up, put it on and get the battery changed when it needs one. The blue 28mm looks very nice. Perhaps you can let us know how sales are for these after a few months

My only concern would be the reliability of the movement inside. I’ve gotten my mom a 28.5 mm automatic seiko 5 in the past and the reliability was pretty atrocious, inability to wind reliably and inaccuracy up to +/- 30 min per day. I know smaller movements are gonna be more difficult to engineer anyways, but still.

Possible Mother’s Day gift. But I would have a hard time picking out what color way. Although I admit laughing at the thickness compared to the rest of the size.

Hi Marc, I think it's trying to capture more not only the women's market. At the same time also the market for children and teenagers. Especially since it's the "5Sport" models. And the „dark blue“ one would also look good on the arms of younger people. Partner look between husband and wife. Partner look between father and son or daughter. Between mother and son or daughter. Why not? There are certainly some who would spend that money on their children. Just think what a reasonable "Air Jordan" or "Converse All Star" costs.

I dig the 005 and may buy one just to see how it looks on a 6.5” wrist. I prefer watches that are light. But 11mm thick? They need to get it down to under 10mm at this size.
It will be too small for you. 38mm is the best for 6.5 from my experience. Maybeeee Tuna. It has small lugs.

The thickness is movement driven, gonna be a problem at cost.

I gave him a good advice. And guess what... dress watch for his 6.5 is a 36mm. A gave him another great advice.
My kid wants a small diver (32mm is probably the Max but 28mm is what he wears now and it fits well) because of the "rotating bezel" haha. hard to find something for a 5yr old. :(

Idk why ppl get so hung up on watch size. I have watches ranging from 43mm all the way down to a 1940s dress watch that’s 26mm. Who cares what size watch u wear. Wear what u like
