AU: Marc is obsessed and even infatuated with his alter, Steven (maybe not exactly to the point of no return yet, but he is definitely heading there). So he acts upon his feelings in his own brute way: showing him his mercenary life from a 'wonderful' point of view, assuring, that Steven can be a part of it too, just like Marc.

In the meantime Layla sees the commotion and tries to prevent it by talking some sense into Marc, which she obviously fails, so then she goes to confront Steven about that topic directly. Warns him in order to keep safe.
Steven is smitten, he doesn't want to choose between them, never would be able to. Yet, he can't just leave Marc behind as he is (quite literally) a part of him. If it means, that he too has to be an avatar, then so be it.
