A shout out to you Stu for getting well off the beaten trail. This walkabout in Manzanares is so related to the over-tourism you talked about in another excellent video that is getting push back by locals in many coastal areas. Yet, as you have shown, the various provinces away from the coast have interesting and beautiful things to offer. I am moving to Spain this year and have considered Manzanares as a place perhaps to live. One additional thing you didn't mention, is that the town has a train station, so you can connect to the AVE in Ciudad Real or take the media-distancia trains north to Madrid, east to Albacete and on to Valencia or Alicante, south to Granada, Córdoba, or Almería. It looks relaxed and sunny, and checking houses on Idealista, not only affordable, but has some beautiful homes. Behind those façades you see and imagined courtyards and patios, that Manchega house is exactly that, stunning courtyards and patios to take a break from the house without even leaving the house. Keep up your exploring the out-of-the-way bits of Spain! Olé!

Blimey, we're having a few weeks in Castilla la Mancha. Today/tonight we're at Villanueva de los Infantes. Well worth you doing a visit.
Been there twice; some years ago now, staying in the Parador nearby. Hope you "Backed up the truck" and filled up with the local wine especially the lovely fruity whites.

No it won’t at all ! The busiest time of day would be between 10:00-12:00 am . in small towns n villages when people go out to shop or on market day . Apart from that maybe Friday or Sat evening for a drink in a local bar .
Greetings from Ciudad Real. I'v lived here for more than 20 years already. It was difficult for me to adapt at first because this whole part of Spain is too calm. On the other hand, even more than easy, it is natural to make friends quickly and there is a social life that one doesn't guess could exist here. It is not a place for everyone though. That's for a living. Regarding tourism, Albacete caga y vete.

@@janethaver3375 There were and who knows if still are two traveller agencies in London for birdwatchers and the main destination was Spain. Israel was second then. Those Brits coming on a bus to nowhere are the first English speakers I met when I was a little child in Badajoz. One of them noticed I needed glasses. Not my parents. He gave me a guide of birds titled: "Birds by character. The fieldguide to Jizz identification", which is about telling birds from a blurr. The hearing helps and you got the two species

I have never seen a town so closed or abandoned looking. Maybe you visited on a bad day
I have. As a matter of fact my great grandparents town of Macotera is so small and closed like this that they don't even have a school. Just a Plaza de Toros, public pool and a church. Their hotel is a motel that's not open often but probably sometime. I'm going to return in August when a cab driver from Salamanca told me that everyone who has left returns to visit their relatives. It kind of reminds me of many of Stu's walkabouts. It's still beautiful though! I love Spain too!🇪🇸
All small Spanish towns are like that . Nothing happening at all . Might be lucky to see a few locals having an almuerzo in the morning between 10:00/11:00 am .
Spanish towns, especially in the interior, come alive after 5pm. I've been in many places in the afternoon and yeah, nobody there, but stick around and see the same place after 1700 or the when the sun starts to set and it's a different experience.
All small Spanish towns are the same . Mostly very quiet n nobody in sight . No trees either . Only big cities n towns or towns on / near the coast are busy with people .
Perhaps nobody was in sight due to the early afternoon when Stuart was out walking. I'm certain that after 1700 there would've been many more people out and about. As far as trees, the plains of La Mancha are exactly that, plains and the trees are found on hills and mountains around the towns. The lack of trees in the outdoor space makes the design of the Manchega house with its courtyard and patio so appealing.
Manzanar means "apple orchard" in Spanish. Any apples noted?
Did you note that the few trees we see are with no exception tiny?
Reminds me of small town in Peru but cleaner, quieter and better construction.
