The Blackberry Bold 9700 was the first smartphone and grown up purchase I made when I first started working…I was 20 years old at the time and it was literally my favorite phone ever! I still have mine for sentimental reasons😅
My 2011, Curve 9320 accepts all current sim cards on every network. It's totally useable in 2023. I'd suggest that the majority of your problems are either user error or ignorance.
I still use my Blackberry Bold for calls and texts (in and out) using a very reliable standard sim. Although it connects to wifi I switch it off because I use a tablet for internet stuff and document reading and writing. I find the keyboard easy to use with two fingers but it has in built instant speed and voice dialling plus voice notes anyway. I has an extremely simple to use alarm system that I use every day. It easily lasts 7 days on one charge because the slip case has an auto standby that power saves whilst keeping all the functions alive. As the battery is removable and I have a fully charged spare I never have 'charger anxiety'. Its in lovely condition and everyone wants to look at it when I use it. As it weighs about 4 ounces (100g) it fits unnoticed in my pocket. I never spend more than £30 per year for unlimited calls and texts.
Blackberry 9900 was the best phone. I was 12 when I got until 15 when I moved to iPhone. Of course now it might feel ancient but when I was a teenager, this was the best phone for messaging as everybody had it in Europe. I’m 22 now, feels like a long time ago
Ah, the memories! I had one in purple back when I was 22 and I loved it. We thought we were so cool asking people their PIN numbers in order to use blackberry messenger... hahaha
Love how this person is roasring a phone that was really amazing though. It does how quick tech has evolved and changed. The blackberry still has the best typing experience of all phones to this day. I used my blackberry key two to blind type entire essays at uni just 3 years ago. It is unbeatable. Also without blackberry and bbpin, there would be no smartphones with airdrop and messenger function the way we enjoy it today.
This phone should work fine. You most likely got a handset locked to a carrier so no wonder it doesn't work. My grandparents still use a blackberry as the keypad is easier to work. Also the track points on laptops still exist.
I liked the ones with the white pearl tracking ball, even though it would wear out after sometime lol. The way it glowed with the light in the dark. The keyboard and the letters in the emails and text messages were very clear, very well defined.
i had one back in primary school as a hand me down from my sister, i'd get her previous phone whenever she upgraded, and in 2012, i got the Curve 8520, absolutely horrible now, but back then, that thing was amazing. i used to message family etc on Blackberry Messenger, sad i don't own that curve anymore would've been funny to see what was on it from 8 year old me lol. also, i think it didn't work because your sim card might be too new, i haven't had a new sim card since like the end of 2019 so it still works in older devices.
I have a BB Classic which runs BB10 OS but has android run time but sadly it runs 4.4 if only they installed lollipop instead it would still be so useable for the android side of things. The phone still works with my 4G sim card but the only reason I stopped using it this January is because the BB servers went offline meaning no BB ID meaning no Blackberry Hub - which was an amazing tool consolidating all your notifications into one and reply from there etc.
@@zuubu nah... the OS/bootloader whatever it is the low level security on the device is tied down no one has gotten past it or bothered blackberries really were secured down.
My old BlackBerry 8310 was my favorite BlackBerry. That big keyboard just felt right. I know they seem ancient now, but back in the day they were awesome. Nice video!
@@BubVisuals Thanks! Another ancient piece of technology you might find interesting was the Nextel PTT (Push to talk) iDen phones. There were some crossover Blackberry iDen PTT models as well. Interesting devices, with a limited network (iDen) to support them.
I have a old bold 9900 that is sim locked. It was my favorite phone back in the day. Now my main phone is a Xs. I still wish I could use the bold again. Also they were big in the islands.
had the same issue with nokia 3312 modern sim cards just wouldn't fit or work like my nokia it might take a standard sim card size? my old nokia from 2008 did
I owned a white BlackBerry 8520 in 2014, swapped the colour to Red then Black, owned a 9720 Bold until 2017 side before WhatsApp stopped supporting it. Fan of your videos for Nearly a year, love the older iPhone “How is the 4S” and your favourite models through your time, keep it up 🛠💯🔥
I had the pantech equivalent of this and I love the form factor but it's simply not functional at all. Messaging was unbearable and the physical keyboard was not as good as I remembered
Yep , I had a Blackberry Storm . From memory the whole screen pushed in like a giant button ( if that makes any sense) the phone itself , a diabolical piece of crap . Served it’s purpose at the time . Just.
I was actually thinking of buying this phone for a very long time now haha the only thing that stops me from buying it is the battery. Good thing u bought it and reviewed it already haha saved my time and money

i have never had one ...but i remember the times when people went crazy about it...exactly the same like now, when people love iphone's...time flies quickly.,have a good day
I used a Nokia C3 (it's similar to this phone) from 2013-2019 when the screen stopped working but the phone still works! Facebook and whatsapp worked very well, UA-cam didn't which is sad because it's my favorite app but makes sense why it wouldn't work well. Camera was bad but I grew up carrying cameras anyway (2000 kid here). Gonna buy one used soon
You make this phone so difficult to use the simplest things. To me BB software was much more easier them Apples OS. I loved my Bold 9000 at the time so much I works my butt off to send the scrolls ball to be repaired. You complaining about the scroolpad on these newer models, try using the older models when they get dust under the ball
I got so use to that phone at that I sue to text really fast and do so much more on my phone at that time. I just remember loving it at the time it was like nothing hard at all.
