  • Relationship problems? There’s good news. These revolutionary marriage counseling techniques can save your marriage and improve every relationship in your life.
Relationship experts and married couple Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt are here to help. In this episode, they share the marriage counseling and relationship advice they’ve taught to thousands of couples through individual counseling and workshops. These techniques will not only lead to better, healthier relationships - they can heal the world.
Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt are partners in life and work. Together, they have written over 10 books of marriage advice, including three New York Times bestsellers, and the mega-hit “Getting The Love You Want.” Harville and Helen co-created Imago Relationship Therapy. Harville is a couple’s therapist, educator, and clinical trainer with over 40 years of experience. He’s been on The Oprah Winfrey Show 18 times. Helen was installed in the Women’s Hall Of Fame for her leadership in the global women’s movement. Not only have they been married for 30 years, but they also know how to save marriages and help couples build the relationship of their dreams based on mutual respect and deeper communication.
Bickering with your partner and endless fights with your colleagues isn’t just a sign of one unhealthy relationship. It's a problem with our culture.
Negative relationships have HUGE long-term impacts on society…
    * 100% of people in a negative relationship have a greater risk of cardiac death.
    * People in broken marriages are 60% less productive.
    * Negativity in relationships is one of the contributing factors to at least nine major social issues - everything from substance addiction to violence and crime.
EVERYONE needs to watch this incredible interview and learn these life-changing - and surprisingly simple - communication techniques that’ll transform your relationships and your life.

That's well said. Gary Vee, for example, constantly interrupts his guests. I like his content, but I don't like the fact that he interrupts all the time. Sometimes, he goes even as far as telling he just wants to talk.
When you have something to tell and explain in detail, it often takes quite a lot of effort to gather your thoughts and present them in the best way possible. If your interviewer constantly interrupts you, you certainly feel threatened and try to rush out all of your thoughts. It's just a bad dynamic. Marie also shows she's been listening and done her homework.

Quite frequently, I'm really shocked when, suddenly, I realise that a certain book, quote, encounter etc. comes as an answer to a question I asked Him some time earlier... and it's much too precise and unambiguous to be a coincidence. :-)

Smartness is important in a relationship and cyberhackinggenius helped cloned my husband’s phone and I got access to all his dealings both on phone and social media without touching his phone. All I did was share my husband’s phone number with cyberhackinggenius and I was able to read both his new and deleted messages from my phone without having to touch his phone. My husband was a cheating Narcissist and I’m glad to find out all his secrets and infidelity with the help of cyberhackinggenius. I’m here in UK and able to access my husband’s phone messages with a link on my phone even while he was away in Canada cheating on me. I got to discover that my husband who is legally married to me here in UK is also recently married to another woman in Canada and I’m finally going through a divorce with lots of evidence against him. I read all his Whatsapp, Facebook,Skype,Instagram and Snapchat messages Including the deleted text and recent messages. You can contact this great Hacker Gavin via Gmail (cyberhackinggenius) or text and speak to him directly on his phone and WhatsApp : +19256795146 and don’t forget to thank me later.

There is so much marriage advice out there! The problem is you need two people willing to work on it and be committed to getting better. One cannot change a marriage. If you're married to someone who will not commit to getting better at communicating and making the marriage better, you either suck it up or leave...

    Hi Marie,
Always enjoy your interviews, and this one in particular. We have been holding "Getting The Love You Want" workshops in NYC for the last 5 years and owe so much to the work of Harville & Helen. We too would not be where we are had it not been for bringing the Imago Dialogue into our lives. Wonder and curiosity now are our relationship foundation. We are always humbled by the transformation of a couple that can become vulnerable and learn to hold space for each other over the course of a weekend. Thank you for sharing this video and all that you do to share your path.

I've been reading Harville and Helen for many, many years. Helen is SO darling--just love her! The Imago dialog is magical and common sense. My husband came to our relationship with a ton of relationship work behind him. Even so, using Imago dialoguing with one another was transformative. We've gotten lax about this lately so thank you so much for featuring Harville and Helen on your show--their work has been critical in our marriage. I always felt defensive and in counseling, this was pointed out to me. Using Imago has helped me to let go of the feeling of defensiveness and for my husband to adjust his more hard-line attitude and perceptions. We really do all want to be known ... as Helen says, understood. This long interview was amazing-thank you Marie!!

Very Respectfully With All Due Respect Good Gods Day, Since God Is The Authority Of All Scriptural Marriage Let Us See What The Authority Himself Has Commanded Concerning Marriage and Divorce, Let All Be Enlightened By The Heavenly Fathers Commands About Marriage,
      ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
DIVORCE IS SCRIPTURALLY NEVER EVER APPROVED BY GOD, NEVER!

      *MATTHEW 5:31-32 NKJV*
“Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.

18 “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.
      ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■
      *1 CORINTHIANS 7:10-16 NKJV*
10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband.
11 But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife.
12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her.
13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.
15 But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace.
16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?
      *1 CORINTHIANS 7:39 NKJV*
39 A wife is bound by law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband dies, she is at liberty to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.
      *MALACHI **2:16** NKJV*
16 "For the Lord God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one's garment with violence," Says the Lord of hosts. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.
      *MATTHEW 19:1-9 NKJV*
      Jesus' Teaching on Divorce
19 1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.
2 And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.
3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?"
4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,'
5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" 8 He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery."
      ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
      These Scriptures apply to
      1. a male and female marriage only
      2. those who are married to their very first spouse
☆Only a spouse that is deceased from the one living spouse is Scripturally allowed to remarry, no one else is allowed to be remarried according to Scripture
      ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

Religion is a dead thing. Spirituality is alive.
All religion boils down to “because it says right here.” Dead words on a dead page.
Spirituality is connecting with Creator in your heart and being able to discern truth or lies read on any page with Great Spirit.
Your “religion” is nothing but words you swallow whole whether they make a lick of sense or not. There’s no connection to Creator ~ just connection to words/rules on a dead page written by dead men.

As a graduate of Abilene Christian University in the late 70’s I was required to take a course entitled, “Family Relations” before being eligible for a diploma. I have always been thankful for that class. I give it major credit for helping my husband and I build and maintain a happy home and marriage partnership filled with love and laughter, despite all the tragedies life can show you along the way. It’s been my belief all along that if these skills were to be taught in schools across the world we would all live more satisfying lives.
You get what you expect. Pay closer attention to what you were really expecting, not what you tell everyone else you’re expecting. It’s surprising how often what we say doesn’t match what we feel, and it’s more productive to feel it with conviction. Expect to have a successful relationship and you’ll try harder, because losing that sparkling creature isn’t an option, is it?
And hey…..it’s all about how much you love and respect yourself. Be kinder to you. Watch those words, and try to use more loving ones when you talk to yourself. 💜🤗💜 Give laughter a try. Challenge yourself to laugh as often as an average 6 year old, about 300 times a day. 😄

The thing I learned that captured me the most with this powerful couple is allowing the other to talk more and asking for permission for it to be ok to talk. The best advice I can think of that I wish i'd thought of when young is to take an accredited basic psychology course. It will help you to understand yourself and what YOU need first, and also help you pick out those who are putting on an act - which most men and women do at first, and some can keep it up until after marriage a couple of years along the line. Still, there will be tells and a basic psychology course will help you spot important things you might otherwise not notice or may dismiss.
It will also help you in many other areas of your life such as with family, friends, bosses, colleagues, neighbours, children.

This seems truly amazing to me. I was raised by a single mother & essentially not being taught about relationships in any traditional sense. These concepts are really how I feel I was/am, naturally. My grandmother once said to me as a youngster "as long as you act with good will in your heart everything will work out ok". That seems to be what I've held on to. Mostly learning as I went, which looking back (even thru any torment) I've been pretty thankful. However, because others HAVE been taught/not taught in various ways and now we all have varied maladapted behaviors, this is where bigger problems happen, right? For example with me, whether it was for being too honest or too accepting, I was either misunderstood &/or taken advantage of. This then caused some maladaptive behaviors in effort to protect myself by keeping parts of me hidden. Or attempting/asking too many questions which would make me appear insecure or as if I were trying to hard. And so on. You may get the picture so I'll leave it at that for now. I don't feel as though I've changed much other than being a but less trusting.
Long story short, I agree that THIS could help humanity get back on track if implemented. Versions if needing variance in as far as appropriateness is concerned could be developed to be beneficial depending on the kind of relationships (business, personal, etc.). Wholeheartedly agree that we need eachother & quite honestly feel best when I am "doing" for others. There is probably a fine line between healthy & unhealthy codependency. And perhaps that is what I am still trying to balance.
I will be watching this again. Thank you.

I love a lot of the points mentioned here.. on listening, repeating back, mirroring, and compassionate understanding of two people and the space between and how interconnected relationships are with everything... But like I said, ever since she mentioned "she was high society and he wasn't and she had to fix him.." I felt like they (Marie & Helen) we're kinda laughing at him and if you know Alison Armstrong's work, that's emasculating and kind of cruel too... I felt bad for the guy. He handled it like a champ though and continued to show his intelligence and even complimented his wife. I imagine if he publicly shared his wife's short comings or what bothered him about her in public she would be be so tolerating or accepting.

I didn't understand it that way. I think when she said that she was talking about how wrong she was about her mindset in judging him and trying to change him, instead of accepting him wholeheartedly and not nitpicking about unimportant things. And about herself thinking again wrongly that her husband is the one who needed "fixing" at the therapist's.

Helen mentioned how she wanted to change Hartville while dating him that's so common to want to judge and make someone into your mold. I had a BF and parent's who needed to let me know I needed to uphold their upper standards I never felt safe in that environment.I always felt beneath their upper crust but the thing I learned is you can learn alot by actually listening and not pre judging . So their program really works.

I agree 100% that marriage licenses should be earned like driver licenses. It's amazing that governments marry people within a few minutes knowing divorces are far more time and financially consuming. So many people need pre-marriage counseling and therapy before entering into a marriage.

My husband is a momma's boy... After 9 years of being married to him... I asked him to stop telling his mom everything that goes on.... I begged him to stop and still does it.... I'm trying to improve what I do with how I do things. But how do I get him to stop... I love him so much..
