FilmConvert Nitrate is available now for DaVinci Resolve - adds Cineon Log to all our film emulations, matched to your camera Log. Free, fully-functional trial version available from our website
Any possibility of allowing this for Rec709 based profiles? The ability to get a Cineon negative output from something like Panasonic Cinelike-D would be very useful.
@@TreyMotes Just shoot in rec 709 on your Panasonic using the natural profile and then in resolve use the color space transform to convert from rec 709 to your preferred form of Log.
If you created a Patreon account I would definitely support you, I have learned more in the few videos you have posted than any other resource I have seen.
When I see this guy have posted a new video, first I give it a thumb up, then starting to watch . Juan thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge with us !
I have rewatched this video countless times now, thank you so much for sharing this wealth of knowledge with us. I can't wait for filmconvert nitrate to arrive to Resolve. I'm itching to try it out with GHAlexed LogC GH5 footage :D
FilmConvert is actually adding the ability to convert to print density soon. I thought the possibility of them "coming to the party" sounded overly optimistic, because in my experience, companies rarely ever listen to their userbases, but I have to say I'm impressed. I'll definitely buy FilmConvert now that they've done this. I wish more companies just listened to people.
Send an email to film convert on 26/2/2019 telling them about this information they said this. "thanks for your email - we're actually working on a major new version of FilmConvert which include print density film emulations for all our film stocks, customized the camera profile. Keep an eye on our newsletter and social media channels in the next few weeks for more details"
Why would you go snitching on him to Filmconvert!?? What if they had intentionally removed it??? This is why I don't blame people for not sharing hacks! It was not your call to report his discovery and when this hack gets blocked, you are to blame. #SNITCH #RAT
Hey, what resources would you recommend if I would like to learn resolve in the way as colour engineers meant to use it aka. The way you use it. I bought one course from colour grading central for premiere and that didn't convince me. For example RedLog was corrected with contrast and saturation sliders only. No understanding of colour spaces or anyhting like that. Might you be intersted to create a course like that?
The issue with the technical side of grading is that isn't very attractive. So most resources will be in the form of white papers, or really dry articles and blog posts. There's no real centralised repository, you kind of just need to roughly know what you are looking for and then start searching. Beyond that, look at sites like the Lift Gamma Gain forum. And check out Mixing Light. They might not go as deep, but they approach it from the angle of how a colourist can actually put it into practice.
Been checking out your tutorials. By far this is the kind of tutorials that I need to know more in Davinci Resolve. Would be nice if you could do some in-depth explanation of the RGB mixers and the usage of YUV, RGB, LAB and etc, most likely the features in Resolve that are hard to understand for us common folks. Anyhow these are excellent tutorials!
I started to watch this but I could barely comprehend what Juan was talking about. I then changed the playback speed to 0.5 but that was like meeting Juan in the pub after he'd drunk 15 beers. Juan, your grading is amazing but please slow down a little and elaborate the concept when you do these tutorials so the rest of us can understand what's going on.
hey juan, its wonderful information that you give us within all your tutorials, plz i can find sm extention in the epicm folder !! then when using the nodegraphe it gives me a super contrasty image is it normal ?
Hi Juan, what do you think of the new conversion in Cineon Log with filmconvert Nitrate. Is it the same process ? Do filmconvert Nitrate convert your log base image in Status M with Cineon Log applied ?
I do the same, with same Alexa and 5207 footage, but if i apply the on the first node the Color Space transform and setup the input outputs the ressult is dark and the highlights is klipped. What u recommended?
Exactly, it's logical that you end up with the same colors if you use the same stock in film convert as the footage of the girl was shot in. All the steps in between is just trying to match the contrast of the Epic to the film version. This is way too complicated for the end result haha.
@@RubenStuveling Um no. If you literally just try dropping the curve slider, that is not AT ALL how those sliders work. The color slider is also adjusting contrast as well. Come on, a quick test would debunk all this for you.
Hi Juan! i have a question! im grading using this method and going from Slog2 to Redlog , and im getting REDS to saturated and losing texture , do you know how to fix it?
k so basically I have done color correction and grading always wrong.....You really broadened by horizon...Need to learn what Cineon and Film Negatives etc. really are
every time i watch your videos i feel like a beginner .can you please create a full paid course when you have the time. i live in Morocco colorists are shit here.
It's simple! first, transform all the color spaces you got in your computer then add one million parallel nodes, each with Africa-shaped chroma mask applied - this will give you a good starting point
Click and drag stuff around and waffle on with techno jargon while talking at one hundred miles an hour. Yeah great way to explain what is going on. Typical egghead that gets so wrapped up in their craft that they forget how to speak like a normal human being. Pass.

Can´t i get similar results if i just set the curve in Filmconverts settings to 0% so only the color shifts taking place ?
i thought about this too... isn't this the solution?

FYI, the EpicM profiles don't seem to be included in the Windows download. Is there a way we can get them from the Mac version? Thanks.
