So I wrote a song about how fictional boys are better written than guys in real life actually are...which is kinda obvious seeing as in fiction we get to create characters with no flaws which is IMPOSSIBLE! However, it's nice to live in a fantasy world now and then, innit? :P

okayjessjess Exactly! Characters that don't have flaws make for hideously boring people unless it's in a comical way. I read a book where the guy was freakishly perfect and everyone else was like "Wtf is he, he's obviously not human what's wrong with you" When they aren't real it's easy to go "I mean... he only killed a feewwwww people"
not to sound mean, but it sounds like all the male characters you read about are "gary stew"s. verry one sided characters with verry little left to the imagination. BUT! I love the song and want to thank you for another awesome video :) and, if you want the best read of your life, i would recomend the trillogy "the kingkiller chronicles" by Patrick Rothfus. this book series, in my opinion is better than anything i have ever read!

+Skylar Zilloway Twilight was just a fun book I read when I was 14 that I really enjoyed. Not all art has to have a purpose or a meaningful background or stand for something huge. I prefer it if does, but if it's a good story or enjoyable, it doesn't matter too much. Half the fairytales I read as a kid were seriously, crazily messed up (as I've stated in my Fairy Fails videos). Doesn't make then any less enjoyable. Whether it's badly written or not is purely personal opinion. xxx
I feel the same way! I personally love Twilight, and I don't care if people hate on it! I can't get enough of books, I just finished Divergent today, and I started it less than 3 days ago! Btw Carrie, have you read Divergent? I really love it, and I can't wait for the movie! ^.^
Me too! I read Twilight quite a few years ago and I always enjoyed the books, however, the movies did kind of ruin it for me, a long with the study that proves the relationship between Bella and Edward was technically an abusive one, but I will still have a soft spot for the books in my heart

I totally get what you're saying here, and I like this approach, but I also wonder where you draw the line when you think this way. A lot of people think Twilight is a really problematic story because of what it says about relationships. It might still be entertaining, but if it's perpetuating ideas that may be harmful, is it still okay to support it and celebrate it? If a song is blatantly sexist, we don't usually say "well, it's catchy, so it doesn't matter." I'm not saying Twilight is on that level, but I am curious as to how you determine when something's "fun factor" overrides what its underlying message is.

i agree, i read the Twilight books a while ago, about the same age as you did actually and i quite enjoyed them at the time but my taste in books has changed since then. Stephanie Meyer is a really good writer but people choose to hate on her because they hate twilight but her other book, The Host is amazing. i think Twilight actually got me into reading more books tbh so im definitely not ashamed for reading them because i absolutely love books now.

Boys in books ARE better. The writers can't make them perfect (perfect characters are gross), but they give them just the right flaws to make us love them AND want to patch up their wounds and battle scars ~swoon~

Of course you're allowed your own opinion but you really shouldn't call it a piece of 'Crap' when somebody else likes it quite a lot. Thought I agree that you shouldn't compare Divergent to The Hunger Games, as that would be extremely unfair due to the large fanbase of THG lovers, what one person deems 'Really Good' may be, to you, not as good as you hoped. This is not an excuse to bash somebody else's love for a book similar to another in the same genre.
To be clear: I said nothing wrong about the hunger games! I love the hunger games too, I've read the the books 6 times and have loads of merchandise! I realise when I said "there just like the hunger games but really really good" it did sound like I was saying the hunger games wasn't good but that's really not what I meant! To be fair I think it is easy to compare the hunger games to divergent, not critically or in quality but they are both dystopian and both similar concepts and similar writing style so most divergent fans were HG fans first, like me! I did not mean that divergent was better than the hunger games, while divergent is my favorite series THG was my favorite before, I didn't mean to offend your opinion of HG in any way but even if I accidentally did, I think calling something that I am clearly so so passionate about 'a piece of carp' is not fair!
