Underratedly good '60's song I heard on my oldies radio station this morning .I always marvel at how even the psychedelic bands of the era were in suits and ties .
I was already in a band when all this blew up! It was a magical time ... great song, after great song, kept blowing up on my AM radio, making life a lot better, not long after my parents divorced. Traffic was easy back then and riding around with my older brother listening to this stuff was just some of the best things of my life.
@@Tonetwisters thank you so much for telling this beautiful, touching story... i wish you a peaceful christmas with lots of love and bright blessings!!! 💖❄⛄🎁🎄🎁❄⛄💖

Not many happy songs today because we aren't in happy times. The 1960s was fabulous!
The reason I know and like so many songs from this era was because they were always played by my parents on long road trips when I was younger. Glove box was packed with cassettes.
@@Tonetwisters Tony was apparently known as a drunk. I believe that is why he was run out of the band. I read this somewhere else so don't know if it's true but he couldn't get hired by anyone or any other band even after he had a few hits with The Searchers so makes me think it may have been true about him. After all it is a business they were running and you can't have your front/lead man as a drunk when you have interviews, gigs etc.
he was an fiery person(known around Liverpool as Black Jake) but he had falling out with drummer Chris Curtis which was one of the reasons he left the band
@Sylvia2184 The Lead Singer is Tony Jackson. He also was one of my Uncles best mates when he worked for the same electrical company as my uncle did b4 Tony Joined the searchers.
Played as drummer as support group for the searchers 1967 in Swindon.what alovely bunch of guys.no airs and graces.made us feel Comfortable.i also got to play on their drums.brilliant times.
Fantastic Liverpool band. Second best only to The Beatles! I just love seeing them diddley-dancing somewhat like the bobble-head puppets from the hit series from that era, Thunderbirds. It's so much of the times.
You are actually right Robert! The Beatles is much more better then The Searchers especially when IT comes to write songs, The Searchers never make a song before 1965 But The Beatles already started to write songs in the Hamburg times
This is the British version of the song. This song was also recorded around the same time by an American group, called the Cryan Shames. They are from a Chicago suburb, Hinsdale Il. They are still playing to packed houses. The American version is in the opinion a much better offering. But either version is better than the garbage that is put out as music today.
I am a Limey and grew up only knowing the Searchers version, just had a listen to the Cryan Shames.. Very good . Richer harmony, more voices I can hear. Just not quite as " thumpy" but a brilliant version ... I like will have to put that one on the Favourite list. We spell Favorite different too. Def with a u... Cheers, doowop lover..
Cheers to you Andy, The searchers did put our some excellent music. I would encourage you to check out the Buckinghams, another Chicago USA, band from the same time period. The Buckinghams were the number one listened to group in 1967 in the states. I am not sure about the Searchers, but the Buckinghams and the Cryan Shames are still playing dates in the states. It's nice that the music carries on.
The Cryan Shames version was good but in 1963 the Americans hadn't quite 'got it' yet, so to speak. The Searchers version is more thumpy with much better harmonies, especially at the high end. Listening to the Shames version, for the first time and comparing the two, I feel something is missing but, hey, compared with the stuff today, I'd gladly have both versions in my collection.
Here in the digital age, a lot of this analog technology can be emulated via plug-ins in recording software but there are also many people who would pay good money for a custom valve (vacuum tube) mixer and Ampex tape deck, not to mention the microphones.
Dude seriously? Youre watching this on UA-cam, what do you think this is? A small man playing a LP in your Computer? UA-cam has some of the worst Audio-quality that you can get. ALSO this is clearly a DIGITALLY REMASTERED Version if you have any idea of audio engineering. But I guess you saw all the analog tools in the video and thought to yourself: I have to show everyone how cool and vintage I am! So please stop being so pretentious if you clearly have no Idea of that matter.
I doubt most people could tell the difference between a master tape recording made in the early 60s or the equivalent made today. This is video file, taken from a tape, converted to a digital video source uploaded onto UA-cam where they compress it further. It's not an actual studio recording
@@GermanLulatsch Is it absolutely necessary to be so aggressive? Ah, okay, I forgot that you were friends with John Culshaw, Walter Legge and Geroge Martins, among many others. Bye Sir.

Indeed someone of them farther changed the world of music!
Been since 1963 that I last heard this song by The Searchers. So much FUN, this time machine I'm in.
The one and only Tony Jackson. He had a fabulous voice. One of the best lead singers of the 60’s pop groups! RIP Tony.

Listening to this sweet "happy song". Watching this nostalgic video. Makes me dream of a wonderful time I never lived in!!! 🌞❤🌞

Playing the drums in a jacket and tie, how proper!
almost like Charlie Watts.
What a brilliant song, what brilliant memories, the 60s where the best for music
The 60s music was the best ever 🎵🎶🎼🎧❤️✌️
You got that right!
Jackson/Pender: One of the best vocal combinations in the entire recording history.
Could'nt agree more perfect duet.
The reason I know and like so many songs from this era was because they were always played by my parents on long road trips when I was younger. Glove box was packed with cassettes.
A Great life in America
Great music
Love the Vu meters, Reel 2 reels and vinyl in this!
So close to the actual feel of Buddy Holly and the Crickets! Brilliant!
Can't agree more!
Never occurred to me before but spot on. Crickets .... and then some.
I LOVED THIS SONG and still do!!!
An absolute perfect pop song....
Could you imagine being there in person during this recording?!! The chills run up & down me spine!!!!
Tony Jackson's voice was pure dynamite, he sang lead on this one and on the previous classic Sweets for my Sweet..:)
He gave them their sound, with Pender singing harmony. Then Curtis ran him out of the band. Not too bright, I'd say.

He has an amazing voice and was a great loss when he left the band. Unfortunately long since passed away
Goooooooooooooood morning Vietnam!
When I think of the searchers it includes these guys. Tony was awesome IMO. Its too bad this band suffered from drama that affects a lot of bands
the great voice of Tony Jackson, best Searchers member ever
yes. great voice= alex. ukraine.
I like John mcnally
I like tony and John also. Didn’t John start the band?

This is the song I've been looking for so long, finally I found it. Didn't know the title nor the band's name, just looked it up by the chorus.

The Searchers recorded this in 1963. The Cryan Shames was released in 1966. The Searchers' version is far sharper and more tuneful.
This is a very good version. The Cryan Shames's was rawer, and I guess I just like it better because that's the version I heard back then.

It must've been the fastest tempo song of the 60's
this is the reason why people talk about the golden sixties

That tape deck looks like it weighs a ton! Maybe just 1500 lbs. (681.8 Kg)
@smilingmaskedturtle1 did i mention a soul, they get that too.
Can they hold their guitars any higher?
Andy C haha they look a bit like mariachi
Tony Jackson was the real star of that act

@Iain Botham thanks lain
This is what REAL musicians did before Auto-Tune, vocoders, Pro Tools, and Ableton....LOL
oh shit..
This is not Chris Churtis right? (drums)
yes that is Chris Curtis , drummer who voted Tony Jackson out of the group
'You know that little girl is mine!' Are you talking about owning an adult human female?
wow, the cryan shames version is light years better
Definitely wasn’t talking about today’s women LOL
A Chicago band called the Cryan Shames perform this song much better than the Searchers version. Cryan Shames are still playing at sold out venue.
Totally agree.
You might be right but the British band originally wrote it and recorded it three years earlier.
To weird!

That's your opinion and not everybody feels that way. Nothing wrong with fun, "innocent" and danceable music that was all early rock and roll.
