Started on a Jubilee Ford with a JD#7 sicklebar mower. At 15 graduated to a Ford 3000 with a New Holland 451 and thought I'd landed in heaven. Thanks for posting the video.
Sickle mowers cut the grass cleaner, so it doesn't stress the grass, like a rotary mower...they shatter the top of the stem easier. Rotaries are used for speed.
Your right brother We enjoy the old ford tractors and equipment you can put a lot of hay on the ground in a days time thanks for watching and commenting
I mowed hay for over 5 decades with a rear mounted sickle bar mower. Then I bought a Govt surplus 301A Jd tractor that has a mid mount hyd lift sickle bar mower. Its a joy to operate. No more having to twist and keep looking back. More nimble and manueverable and dont have to unhook the mower to attach the hay rake etc. I dont like the new disk mowers.
Your right brother the old sickle mowers still get the job done. Sickle mower is all we had for years to mow with and their still handy to have thanks for watching and commenting
Just bought a Ford 501 7' sickle mower. Almost identical to the one your using. It seems to be in good shape. Only thing is, is it's frozen up. Really has no rust on it. All guards and knife look clean and relatively new. Any suggestions as to why it won't move freely? By the way that's a lot of hay your cutting looks like your gonna get a good harvest. Thanks for sharing 👍
Your right brother the old 3cyl diesel sound good there are more videos coming soon we are working on second cutting in between rain showers thanks for watching and commenting
Oh, does this bring back memories of a time I'd like to forget. My old man on his Ferguson TO30 , his Ford 501 and I was the kid running along behind with the pitch fork pulling everything back so it wouldn't pile up on the shoes or wrap around the pittman rod. What a piece of junk. It was then followed by a MF150D hooked to a New Holland 451 WHICH WAS EVEN WORSE. And with my brother following with a D17D hooked to an Allis Chalmers hay crusher it made me the sole remaining designated pitch fork runner. Finally faced with the threat of a work stoppage on the part of his procreated farm slaves he broke down and bought a NH Haybine. Doesn't look like much feed value in that orchard grass and weeds but if it's all you have to feed your livestock, they'll get used to it.
That is one BEAUTIFUL sounding Ford.

Can't beat the blue Fords. Still use my 1965 3000 Diesel. Keep up the great. Originally from east Tennessee. You sound like home.
Quality cutting by a competent operator, using well maintained equipment.
Thanks for watching and commenting brother
Nice combination, smooth operator. I cut a lot of hay with an 8n Ford and side mounted Dearborn sickle bar mower.
