    I remember the smell of the hay, seeing the sweat on my Dad's brow and a smile and a wave as he passed by. Standing to the side of the field with Mom holding lunch and water for him. You brought back good memories. Thank you. Blessings to you and yours ❤

    Talk about bringing back memories, I spent many hours doing this in my younger days, only it was a Ford 3000 diesel tractor, we cut enough hay every year with 3 501 sickle bar mowers to keep 200 head of beef cattle feed, and of course all we had back then was a Massy Ferguson square baler too, so yep, we worked all summer! Great video, thanks for bringing back some great memories with family members who are no longer with me!

    I just bought a decent 501 sickle mower. That was good advice on keeping that moving part greased.
    What was the name of the pin I think you called it?
    Only thing right now is I can't get the pully to turn. What good cause it to seize up like that?

    • @FlutyLickHomestead
      @FlutyLickHomestead  2 роки тому +1

      If pulley won’t turn you may have a bearing froze up behind it where shaft comes through. They are great machines and pretty easy to work on

    • @FlutyLickHomestead
      @FlutyLickHomestead  2 роки тому +1

      Also if the belt and pitman is on it could be something fouled up there keeping it from turning

    How do you plant the hay in a field that big?

    • @FlutyLickHomestead
      @FlutyLickHomestead  3 роки тому

      This all is just natural grasses. Haven’t planted any of it. If you were to you’d probably need a seeder for the back of a tractor and have to plow and disc the soil. Some hays you have to replant every year or so

  • @johncconnolly1
    @johncconnolly1 3 роки тому +2

    Please explain: You said you live 3 miles from this hayfield. Do you own this field? If not, do you rent it or make some kind of deal with the owner for the hay? How long do you leave the mowed grass there until you do the next stage? Do you get to keep all the bales or some? What in the heck did you do to your thumb? Yikes.

    • @FlutyLickHomestead
      @FlutyLickHomestead  3 роки тому +2

      I mow hay on 4 fields about 3 miles from my house, this is the bigger one, this one is owned by a church and the other 3 individuals own and let me cut it for free just to keep the fields mowed down. I get to keep all of the hay as well. Usually after I cut it I bale on the 3rd or 4th day. Most drys the 3rd day after I fluff it up unless it is pretty thick like it is this year. Thumb got smashed between my boat and trailer. Took off the nail and broke the thumb!!

    What about the steering on these tractors?

    • @FlutyLickHomestead
      @FlutyLickHomestead  Рік тому

      Only steering trouble I ever had on this tractor was in high road gear it was real shaky! I’ve read of some steering problems in that model, probably why they only made it a year or 2

    • @GWBoen
      @GWBoen Рік тому

      @@FlutyLickHomestead mine does it in high road gear but have figured out its due to one of the tierods being longer than the other side
