My old hometown good luck and thanks for posting from WV
Man that russells is a buy on sight if you ask me. Good thing you got it.
He walked right by the Kentucky Spirit too! 😭😭😭😭
This is my home town liquor store, I'm there all the time. They get some fantastic store picks (the Russell's and High West are some of their best). They never really put out allocated stuff as they do a huge raffle every December. Last couple years there's been about 600 people that show up. Over all great store, prices are a little high but nothing too outlandish.
That's a store I shop at about once a month - funny to see it on here! Most of their bourbon is a little over MSRP, but not secondary prices. That Sazerac is still on the shelf because it is priced at about $75! They do have a shelf behind the registers that has some interesting stuff from time to time (Whistlepig 18, Laphroig 25, etc.) but they save most of their allocated stuff for a raffle every December.
Make sure you hit up a Tudors biscuit world on your way home. There is only one in KY and I believe it is in Lexington.
Love Russell’s reserve!
Enjoyed seeing you visit a store in my home state. They typically have very good store picks although prices for regular items are a little inflated. It would be great if you did a meet up in the Charleston/Huntington area!
I see you are a man of tatse.
I too woupd have went with the Russell's store pick.
The prices on everything else was NUTS
Should have grabbed one of them Kentucky Spirits. That's an allocated bottle here in VA now. Been nursing the hell out of the one I have cause I'll never know when I can get another one. Might need to swing by this place on my way out to Kentucky in June.
Pretty good selection. Couple things i cant find here in MA, like ogd 114. I have a couple old elk store picks. They both started off not so good, take awhile to open up, but when they do they are great. I recently come across a store that has a few locations and they all have a ton of store picks, just got a blantons SBSP and eagle rare SBSP, and my Weller full proof SBSP will be in friday. Another store i found recently has a good amouny of store picks, got a weller full proof SBSP from them too.
Yeah I would have bought that Russels store pick too. I’ve bought two different Russels store picks in the last 4 months and they were both really good.
Congrats guys enjoy I have been getting all the bottles you said are good I have quite a selection I’m Texas and they have a bunch of wellers full proof but it’s 299.99 🤦♂️
I used to live 1 mi from King spirits. You should've got Al's pizza that is in the corner of that strip mall. Some good NY style pizza.
The smooth ambler cask strength is a very good bottle. I recommend to pick that up, for whatever my opinion is worth lol
Agreed. The cask strength rye and bourbon are excellent.
Smooth Ambler Cask is amazing!
If you all stop in Charleston on your way back thru an impromptu meet and greet at Hail House would be awesome. Small community but bourbon drinkers galore.
Steve, we are already home, but might have to take you up on it next time!
You passed on the Kentucky Spirit store pick?? id have bought a case of that stuff!
Those Old Elk store picks are typically great. Well aged and higher proof compared to the standard offerings.
King Spirits is one of the stores I go to. The "good" stuff is behind the counter.
They have a High West store pick that is great.
If you're coming back thru I can put you on a few spots I have. And you all should stop in Lewisburg at Smooth Ambler. Cool little distillery. The Contradiction is good.
Kings also has a smaller store off of the Mall Rd exit #20.
Did you get coffee at the Human Bean? I stop by Kings every couple of months. Its a little overpriced, but they occasionally have some reasonable store picks. I'm curious, how did you find it? It's a little ways off I-64. Especially, with all the construction.
Was that Smooth Ambler Founders a rye or bourbon. That product is their own distillate at cask strength. I got the rye in Atlanta, and it is delicious! You should get one next time you see it. Reasonable price around $60.
Thanks for the tip, not sure which it was.
Yes! My rule is never pass on a Russell’s pick.
Everybody looks past the High West Finished Store Picks smh
I sure hope you bought Jammy some Chick-fil-A. There are consequences. Enjoy the hunt
Across both the KY and GA trip I never found a WRDO for her.... thankfully a patron came through and saved the day LOL
Not a big whiskey more into to tequila it’s overhyped and I can only have a few shots after that I get a massive headache tequila can drink a whole bottle and have no headache or hangover
