Well, you know what you missed from seeing the other performance. Back then Rush basically reproduced the studio versions on stage nightly

Great performance, I just wish it was the entire song.

This performance was filmed on June 4, 1979, at which time Geddy and Alex would have been 25, and Neil would have been 26. Have a great evening, and Rush on!

Alex Lifeson… such an underrated guitarist. Never mentioned with the greats is a shame. He is definitely in my top 10. Possibly top 5 in my opinion

Geddy also used Taurus bass pedals, so he could play bass with his feet, while playing keyboards.

This is literally where I came in with Rush, in 1979. A kid at school had told me about this mysterious band whose name he had on his school bag. Part of this concert was broadcast on late night BBC radio. I taped the broadcast and still have the tape in a box somewhere. From memory they played, Passage to Bangkok, Xanadu, The Trees, Closer to the Heart, La Villa Strangiato and part of 2112. This was the Pink Pop Festival which used to be held annually in Holland, which was one of the first countries where Rush became popular, so this was quite a big deal for the band. Maybe the biggest show they had done to that date. Alex is on fire here. It's my favourite performance of this song. This has all the edge I think is missing from Exit Stage Left. That always feels like a disappointingly flat and sterile album to me, and I think the band is of the same opinion. I'm sure you can find the broadcast audio of this show somewhere on UA-cam, but I don't know of any more filmed footage that's available.

All Rush is good Rush. I love this track, but I'll admit that I don't like this version as much as others. The version on Exit Stage Left is my favorite, even more than the studio version. But again, all Rush is good Rush, and I don't see/hear this performance very often, so it was a pleasure to watch it with you guys 😊 Thanks for doing what you do. Rock on 🤘

One of my fav Rush songs, but damn, what a stupid stage. There is literally a HUGE beam right smack in the middle of the stage in front of the drum riser.
