    TIPS FOR YOUR STAY
During the summer months of July and August, Tarifa becomes very crowded, making it challenging to find parking. Getting to the town can also take longer due to frequent traffic jams. Public transportation in the area is limited, so if you plan to explore the surrounding areas and nearby beaches, it's strongly recommended to rent a car. The Costa de la Luz beaches have strong tidal waves due to their oceanic nature. Especially during rough seas, the currents can be powerful. Be cautious and closely watch over children while at the beach.
The best time to go hiking is in the midseason when the weather is nice and mild. Some trails might be of moderate difficulty, uneven or rocky, and not suitable for children. You can check out app like Wikiloc or AllTrails for good options, or get more info on the Junta de Andalucia website.
March and April are good months for birdwatching because birds come to Spain from Africa. But the real show happens in late summer (end of August - September) when these birds head back to Africa with their offspring. When the Levante wind blows, head to western observation points. When the Poniente wind blows, go to the east.
If you like whale watching, spring and summer are good. But the best shot is in July and August. You might even spot killer whales during this time.
    GOOD TO KNOW
    Castillo de Guzmán el Bueno
The castle of Guzmán el Bueno is a prominent historical landmark in Tarifa. It is located near the old town and offers visitors an opportunity to explore the history of the town and enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and town.
    Church of San Mateo
This beautiful church, dating back to the 16th century, is another important architectural gem in Tarifa's city center. Its facade showcases a mix of Gothic and Baroque elements.
    Los Lances beach
Part of Los Lances beach falls within the Parque Natural del Estrecho (Natural Park of the Strait). Visitors are encouraged to respect the environment and wildlife during their stay.
    Sendero Arco del Mediterráneo
Is a larger network of hiking trails in the area which is approximately 80 kilometers long. Currently, the only marked path is the one that goes from Algeciras to Tarifa, spanning a distance of 25.7 kilometers.
Respect the natural environment and wildlife, do not vandalize, stay on designated paths to avoid getting lost or invading private properties, take your trash with you.
    Mount Musa - Jebel Musa
Jebel Musa is associated with various myths and legends. According to some traditions, it is believed to be one of the two Pillars of Hercules, with the other being the Rock of Gibraltar on the European side of the Strait. In mythology, Hercules was said to have separated Europe from Africa by creating the Strait of Gibraltar, and Jebel Musa was one of the markers of this boundary.

We loved Tarifa!!!!! We did several days in a downtown hotel with amazing tile work and took the day ferry to Morocco. Loved the town, the sights and the people. I had emailed the port to ask about the ferry and I had heard it was only open to EU members. The delightful reply was, "The Port of Tarifa is open to all the peoples of the world!" We also loved Tavera on the Portuguese side in the Algarve. Beautiful places! If you live in Tarifa you are blessed!

Andalusians know how to welcome tourists :) Yes, the place is really beautiful... I used to live nearby, but I moved a few months ago to another region of Spain for a better job. I'm glad to know that you enjoyed your holidays there so much!

In an instant I'm on Google Earth. No idea the Inlet to the Mediterranean and the other sea's was so restricted Wow. Most southern point almost touches North Africa. The very heart of western Europe and Africa. Magnifica!

You're right; they're so close they almost touch each other. I can guarantee that catching a glimpse of the Rif Mountains from the Spanish coast is truly magnificent. It's not always possible, given that many days can be hazy or foggy, but on clear days, you can even make out cities, beaches, and ports on the other side. And the Moroccan mountains cast a clear, detailed silhouette. Absolutely breathtaking.

Thank you for this video. I visited Tarifa in October 2018 and made a point of walking to the end of the causeway and have my picture taken as the most southerly person on mainland Europe. Unfortunately, my visit was brief and after seeing this video I'm sorry I didn't stay longer. Now I have to go back and enjoy this beautiful town.

Thank you for your comment! It feels great to hear that someone who has already visited the place is eager to return after watching this video. When you're there, make sure not to miss Playa de Punta Paloma and Playa de Bolonia. You'll find Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia by the ocean, and it's truly scenographic, not to be missed! Additionally... southern Spain is currently experiencing a severe drought, so some places might be less green than you remember. I hope next time you visit, you can enjoy the place to the fullest and take even more incredible pictures!!!

Beautiful video. I would love to take my family but I am not sure what the best way is to get there from the US. Fly to Seville and rent a car?

There are two main airports nearby: Seville and Malaga. It's worth comparing prices. Malaga is a bit closer and has two ways to get there: the toll route and the no-toll route. There isn't much difference among the three once you factor in traffic jams here and there (Seville and the Marbella area are the most congested). Each airport has several car rental offices. The most popular car rental companies are Avis, Budget, RecordGo, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, and Enterprise. You can book everything through their websites. Just check their locations because some offices might be situated outside the airport, and you might need to take a shuttle. Hope it helps!
