I'm so happy to have finally watched this movie! It was more GRUESOME than I could've ever imagined😱Loved the practical effects and stop motion effects, BIG FAN🤩I hope you all enjoy my reaction to this awesome 80's horror😄
Do the trilogy. The third one has a director cut.. And it's also called Army of Darkness aka Evil Dead 3.. Go see the TV series of it as well. Only 3 seasons so far..
This movie is a legitimate horror classic! Maybe not as iconic as some other films, but a prime example of what you can do with a great idea, a few friends, and a cinematic eye for horror!
One of the reasons I love this movie is that it is a testament to what you can do with very little money, imagine, and a group of people with determination. The original Halloween was a low budget movie, but this movie was literally a bunch a college students making a movie for next to nothing. Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and the rest went through hell making this. The cabin had no power, I think they had to put a floor in it so they can use it. They were in college at the time I think, so they had to work around their school schedule, it was freezing at night and the cabin was located in Tennessee and they had to drive back and worth to there from Michigan. The YT channel GoodBadFlicks did a really good 13 minute episode on this movie I highly recommend. Great reaction as always Lauren.
Yeah, I lived 40 minutes from the cabin..and you are dead on the nail. What evil dead started as to what it is now..I am so amazed and I'm sure Sam is so proud of what he started to what it is now. Evil dead rise is getting glowing reviews and I wish theater's didn't give me migraines..wouldnt have to wait till it hits streams. I love this franchise so much
The practical effects in this are insane! It's wild how much they were able to do with such a small budget. It's also cool seeing Bruce Campbell years before he started giving Peter Parker issues lol P.S. Your reaction was awesome and hilarious 💯 I got creeped out and grossed out by this movie too lmao
Bruce Campbell is an international treasure. It was such a treat seeing him reunite with director Sam Raimi for the new Doctor Strange movie. Wonderful reaction Laurenn. I'm hoping for a reaction to Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street before this spooky month is over! Both are 80s classics of course.
Oh the MAGIC of Bruce Campbell! After you have seen a few more movies of his, you realy need "My Name Is Bruce" on the list. It is an amazing, tongue in cheek look at his career. It was written by Bruce, filmed on his land, mostly using props from his old movies, and pokes so much fun at himself.
Btw, Ash also made a Cameo in Multiverse of Madness. The vendor guy who got punched in the face for 3 weeks after Dr Strange cursed him too for ruining the food. lol.
Evil Dead! Hell yes! Sam Rami's cinematic first step. Hope you'll continue on to the second Evil Dead. Just one little warning because I have seen reactors get really confused by the second one when they don't get the warning and it pulls them completely out of it: Sam Raimi did not have the rights to the footage of the first film (Having given those away to be able to get the movie into theatres), so he could not do a recap or even start off where the first movie ended and had to ''retcon'' the first movie into the second; Meaning, the start of the second movie is a reimagining of the first that plays out differently. There is a lot of disagreement amongst fans as to whether it is a reboot or not but both can be chosen by the viewer: You'll see that at some point of the second one, the action joins how the first one ended and everything that happens after can easily be viewed as the sequel to part one with only a few minor differences (That's how I chose to see it), But the second one is definitely even better than the first! (But I am still glad you started with the first one)
So you know, Evil Dead 2 is just a more comedic and higher-budget remake of the first one, despite being titled like a sequel. The "assault by a tree" scene was done more tastefully in the second one.
I FREAKING ADORE NOT ONLY THIS FRANCHISE BUT THE OG MOVIE!!!❤️❤️❤️ Most people prefer the 2nd or even Army of Darkness but man to me the first is what I think of when I think 80s horror! Low budget, gory, scary, great affects, hammy, twisted...ugh I just love it! Definitely a top 10 80s horror. Sam Raimi is such a talented director & Bruce Campbell aka the Chin was born to be a star! So glad you are finally checking out this horror pioneer! Also I would recommend Ash vs Evil Dead, wonderful TV show that has all the same notes that ended too soon. Simple an iconic!!!
I really enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd but the og movie is my favorite partly because it was what got me onto them. And its also the fact that they had such a low budget but made a great film
Welcome to the franchise. Evil Dead 2 covers this movie again in about 10 to 15 minutes excluding all but Ash and his Girlfriend, adds some back ground, and introduces new characters, and the second night at The Cabin. After that it's Evil Dead 3 or better known as Army of Darkness, and then the 3 seasons of Ash Vs The Evil Dead. And due to how well the series went, they're planning a 4th movie right now.
you simply must MUST watch Evil Dead 2 next - it is absolutely amazing and the gold standard for over the top horror, so over the top it becomes comedy. just brilliant.
This is the movie that finally got me into horror some 15 years ago, I had always been a big wimp about scary movies before then. Perfect blend of gruesome effects, atmosphere and creative camerawork to make me see the fun in being scared
Laurenn, I'm SOOOOO happy that you watched the original (and the best) film first!! Anyone telling you to skip this classic for the sequel doesn't appreciate the hard work, effort and superior camera work and effects that young Sam Raimi and young Bruce Campbell put into Evil Dead!! This film also ties directly into the amazing Ash vs. Evil Dead series (Evil Dead is NOT a one off!!), which you should absolutely watch!! I've been a fan for 40 plus years of this franchise and I've watched it all!! The original remains King for me!! Thank you for watching Laurenn!! Love your reactions!! You're awesome!!!
Just read today that the cabin they filmed it in supposedly got burnt by kids on a camping trip. (sort of a overnight camping trip), well that's one story another that Sam Raimi burnt it down himself as felt was haunted after. Ether way Bruce and Sam never give out the exact location just due to not wanting people to get hurt on the site. Though it is stated to be around Morristown, Tennessee. But happy you're discovering the Evil Dead series, there is tonnes of content to it...some great some meh but all fun
1:39 just in case you were wondering, that is some good old fashioned Tennessee stump blaster (white lightning) he is drinking in that jar just in case you were wondering. there are at least 2 more movies and a short lived tv series based on this series.
"We can't bury Shelley... she's a friend of ours..." is some great logic. If you look at it in the right way, it can be pretty funny, considering how over-the-top it is. The inventive camerawork near the end is impressive as hell for being as low budget as it was.
Too many people skip this to go to Evil Dead 2 because it redoes some of this movie and expands on it but this is still worth a watch as Raimi's career launching from this.
This movie... What a classic. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are such a power duo, their work together is just amazing. If you're interested, and I'm pretty sure you are (c'mon everybody loves Evil Dead) you really should check out Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, it only gets better from here. It's in these movies you'll get to know the Ash we love in all his glory. Lovely reaction as always, Laurenn ❤
This is hands down my favorite horror films, only one that still creeps me out after watching over 20 times. Please watch and react to Evil Dead 2 but just know. They couldn't get the rights to the original so the real second movie picks up around the 5 to 7 minute mark.
And just think, Lauren! This movie was written and directed by Sam Raimi, and was his first actual professional film. He would go on to direct all three Toby McGuire Spider-Man movies, which is why Bruce Campbell had cameo appearancesin them. lol
The Evil Dead is the Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror! It's why I adore the horror genre and why I became a lifelong horror fan! Your reaction was hilarious and adorable! Join Us!!!😂🤣👿💀
An evil Devil worship book, that was a pretty close prediction Laurenn. Bruce Campbell is one of my favourite B movie actors and the low budget (I think this was made for around three hundred thousand dollars) gives it a low-tech charm. Groovy.
Absolutely incredible video and reaction Laurenn, the evil dead trilogy is truly awesome and such classics. As always keep being amazing. Hope you react to the other movies.

@@LoveLaurenn - Hey Laurenn, First off, I want to thank you for putting out really good content, I am sure we all appreciate it very much. Second, I absolutely recommend you HAVE to watch parts #2 and #3 (Evil Dead 2 & Army of Darkness). Now, for a little backstory :: As many have mentioned, this first movie was done with a shoestring budget, and it had a lot of criticism at first due to it's relatively cheesy effects and some less than superior acting. However, after some time had passed and the movie had seemed to be a flop that wasn't working out, a little miracle happened : The movie had by virtue of it's own over the top ridiculousness (that which you had observed and commented on), ended up being so campy that it developed a bit of a Cult following, that rapidly became quite huge, it was at the time probably the most well known campy cult classic, and instead of being so famous for being a great movie, it kind of became famous for being such a ridiculous movie. This garnered enough support and profit that they were able to make the next one (that follows up right where this one ended so frustratingly), with a substantially larger budget, and so instead of making a horror movie sequel, they embraced the odd, over the top campy style of the first movie, and it was so so much better, much less gore and horror aspect, and way way more of the fun cheesy acting style, only this time done to perfection. But wait... there's MORE!! following the 2nd movie, part three "Army of Darkness" (again, picking up exactly right where the second one leaves off), and let me tell you ... IT ... IS ... AWESOME.. the best of the three, a phenomenal movie, as ridiculous as number one is, the second and third in the trilogy are well well WELL worth the watch, so PLEASE follow up with the sequels, you will love them, and will NOT be disappointed. I hope you see this and give the next two movies a chance. Thanks again for all the effort you put into these reactions, I look forward to hopefully seeing you react to the next ones in this series.
I firt watched this on a pirate VHS tape in 1983 (I'm from Merseyside, nr. Liverpool in the UK). A mate of mine got the tape of some fella called Andy. We watched it one Friday night, about 2 in the morning. Never been so shit cared in my life, despite seeing quite a few horror films before.
Laurenn, you just peaked into the rabbit hole of the Ash Williams universe. Now let's see you finish the movie series and T.V. show's 3 seasons. The practical effects from then to now, they just get better.
Hey Lauren. Love your reactions. I was wondering if you could tell me what that trailing (kaleidoscope-like) effect is called that you put on certain muted parts where the movie's in the background? Is it a plugin for premiere pro or some other editing software? Thanks a lot :)
I'm so happy with this recommendation. Definitely do the trilogy of films, Evil Dead one, two, and the Army of Darkness; I'd go as far as the remake as well with its a practical effects gem with tons of blood and just a little "modern"-ish twist to it. Super excited that you started on this.
Should definitely continue this series, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness then Ash vs. Evil Dead. I actually just started a rewatch of Ash vs. The Evil Dead last night which I do each year in Oct. Some copyright/licensing issues kept the sequel from being a true sequel. So part 2 the first 10-20 minutes is kind of a recap/rewrite of this movie and then it goes new places. Great series, though past this film it does take on more of a campy quality that for me personally I really love.
Hi ! Nice reaction. I saw that movie in a theater back in time. Some spectators left the movie room. It was too heavy for them. The 2 and the 3 are more horror comedies movies. More budget, and a lot of fun to watch.
Laurenn.x Thanks for the flash back, haven't seen this film in decades. The first time I watched it I wasn't sure if I should be laughing or be Shxting myself? Stay Strong Decent People. Cheer's 🇬🇧
I first saw this movie at a cinema in England in 1982 when I was 17 years old. People in the audience were actually screaming and a few walked out because they couldn't handle the gore and the jump scares.
Someone probably already mentioned... in the 80s they do a quick recap of previous movies at the beginning of sequels. Well, they didn't have the rights to the 1st films footage when making Part 2, so they reshoot the recap, with only Ash and Gf. Some people get really confused by the recap. It's the first 10 minutes of part 2.
A legendary movie that really shows what you can do with a low budget. That said, I do prefer the second movie. The third one is an over-the-top comedic masterpiece, but is so different it really shouldn't be compared to the other two.
@@LoveLaurenn Scanners is an early David Cronenberg Classic! Not as gruesome as Evil dead, very different vibe (More sci-fi than horror) but very unique.
@@LoveLaurenn I have vague memories of Scanners when my cousin watched it at college. Lost my appetite till the next day. Michael Ironside had one hell of a migraine in it.🤕
Your reaction to Evil Dead was Hands Down the best reaction on UA-cam ! I loved it! It brought me back to when we “borrowed “ this movie from the forbidden to children box during a sleep over back 2001. We were like 13 at the time and we reacted like he same way to the Shelly Scene and commenting on the chirping birds at the end. Then we just died of laughter when the credits rolled! Like “that was it?!?! FUCK!” Lol
Lol I loved the ending with the birds chirping. That Shelly scene was insanity😂 I can't imagine seeing this at such a young age! You were bold to pick it out of that forbidden to children box. What a name for a movie box🤣 Thanks for the kind words goose, and thanks for watching!
For such a small budget, they really did create 1 of the best horrors and its still a great film today i think. I highly suggust Evil Dead 2:Dead By Dawn and Evil Dead 3:Army Of Darkness and then the reboot. Ash vs Evil Dead the series is also a must but a 4th series really needs to be made.
Keep going with this series of films. It will have the Best payoff witht he 3rd film, ARMY OF DARKNESS !!! The series is pretty awesome too. We'll done, I mean. Really captures that Sam Rammi feel from these early B-rated films.
When I was 10, my friends mom let us rent this on VHS from one of those shady, privately owned rental stores. We were all permanently scarred by this lol!

Fun UK Fact: The Evil Dead was considered a " Video Nasty " in 1980's England and was banned.
I'll echo the sentiments for watching Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. Those are where the Ash character really comes into being.

Some copyright/licensing issues kept the sequel from being a true sequel. So part 2 the first 10-20 minutes is kind of a recap/rewrite of this movie and then it goes new places. Great series, though past this film it does take on more of a campy quality that for me personally I really love.
Great film laureen. If you can watch évil dead 2. Always beauty you are.💚💚💚💟💟
Evil Dead 2 is a reimagining of this film and a must watch.
This cabin is in Tennessee. The only thing standing is the fireplace.
Your reaction to this was awesome. This movie freaked me out the first time I saw it .
Hahaha that intro was epic! 😅I can just imagine he reacrion to Child's Play or Halloween haha
Please do the whole franchise! I had this awesome chained wallet in highschool with the Cheryl Deadite in the basement, it was so awesome
Cheer's 🇬🇧
Great reaction. Love Ash Williams. Brilliant character. Ash vs evil dead is awesome fun. A must see TV series
Great review
Hi Lauren hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤️
ty for this vid. Awesome reaction. love this movie. ty
I first saw this movie at a cinema in England in 1982 when I was 17 years old. People in the audience were actually screaming and a few walked out because they couldn't handle the gore and the jump scares.
I could have sworn this had an End Credit Scene, or at least the VHS version I saw in the mid 90s had the intro to Army of Darkness.
Amazing reaction, so fun and you took this movie well!😃
4:12 It's the return of DoodleBob!!
A legendary movie that really shows what you can do with a low budget. That said, I do prefer the second movie. The third one is an over-the-top comedic masterpiece, but is so different it really shouldn't be compared to the other two.
I cheered when I saw this upload!
Cant't wait for you to react to Evil Dead 2 and 3
It’s always fun seeing someone watch Evil Dead the first time.
Hey, Laurenn! Saw a bit of this twenty years ago, nearly made me sick. Have you seen Scanners yet?
I can totally see how this almost made you sick lol. I have not seen Scanners yet! Is it as gruesome as this was?
@@LoveLaurenn Scanners is an early David Cronenberg Classic! Not as gruesome as Evil dead, very different vibe (More sci-fi than horror) but very unique.
@@LoveLaurenn I have vague memories of Scanners when my cousin watched it at college. Lost my appetite till the next day. Michael Ironside had one hell of a migraine in it.🤕
@@darrancoyle8394 I might have the check it out! I'm intrigued!😄
@@LoveLaurenn Maybe leave your chocy milk and Dino chicken nuggies till the closing credits.
You're gonna love 'Evil Dead 2'. Like REALLY, REALLY love. ^^
Is there any explanation anywhere about the magnifying glass necklace?
Cheryl did tell them about the cellar. Scotty makes fun of her a bit during the dinner scene. They dont believe her.
Love that movie. Thanks for your reaction. 👍
9:45 LMFAO.
¨she is out there unarmed ...¨ ... as if Sumerian spirits care for guns ... 😂🤣
Hell yeah, can't wait for Evil Dead 2
Very low budget movie, still a masterpiece of horror. So glad you watched it.
22:30 Best part, I died laughing! LOL
