The help is awesome! I've successfully replaced carburettor and fuel lines thanks to this video. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Thank You… After many years of hard starting I took the challenge and followed your video step by step to start on the second pull…
Great job!
Since the fuel line is on one side of the carb and the primer is on the other, does the primer bulb suction side connect to the carburetor to pull fuel through, or does the discharge side of the primer bulb connect to the carburetor?
Primer sucks fue from carb pushes fuel in the tank
So recently I took out my Stihl FS350 strimmer for the summer season, as you do. She was just fully serviced late last year, given a new carburetor among other things. Went to start her up and she choked out on the first go. Tried it a second time, nothing. Third, fourth, fifth, and sixth, nothing. Even waited 10 minutes and still nothing. Choke on or off, she just wouldn't start at all. I then tried her again a few hours later and by holding down the throttle, she gradually started on the first go. Kept the throttle down for 30 seconds till she returned to her normal speed and then let her go onto idle where she just gave up. Again tried restarting her and nothing. In short, she rarely starts on the first go, your chances improved if you hold down the throttle, but on the second, third, fourth, etc. she doesn't kick in at all. The spark plug seems fine, shouldn't be the carburetor as it was just replaced so I'm lost for ideas.
I'd also like to add that, just a few days before I took her out, I had her running no problem, even stayed running on idle. Completely fine the entire day. I've been told by a few friends that it's the carburetor but I don't see any visible issues with it. My last resort would be taking her to a repair center because obviously the last guy didn't do a good job
Change the gas. Fresh brand new gas. Bought today. You cant leave equipment for months without the carb going bad. Gotta prep it for storage first. I empty mine of gas fill it with sea foam then prime it up filling the carb with sea foam. When i need it again i drain the sea foam oil out and fill with fresh brand new gas. Prime it up and im ready to go again
@@smallengineguys I actually had it on a specialized gas which is able to sit in storage for 12 months. It was barely in storage for 2.
@@pilot4436 12 months? Maybee if unopened? Not sure about that. I know rec 90 will last about 3 months before equipment starts running like shit or not at all. Ethanol gas maybee 3 weeks. Remember this isnt a car with 15+ gallons in it. Its a weedeater with 5 cents in it. Goes bad faster in smaller amounts. Once the burnable stuff evaporates its done.
@@smallengineguys yeah I was a bit suspicious at first, either way it wouldn't explain why it ran perfectly that day after being in storage for a while. I've tried the same gas on my other engines and it works perfectly fine. I tried her out again just a minute ago and it's less difficult to start, still need to hold the throttle down and switch around the choke but it kicks in eventually. There's an awful rattle and a lot of smoke aswell, might be the cylinders.
FROM SOUTH AFRICA.. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK .
no problem!
Great vid. I have a tiny bit of weekend warrior engine experience and using this video had the job done in 45 min. Ive confirmed spark, new card, air filter and fuel and i still have no start. This stihl unit is killing me
go to muffler there is a screen that unscrews or pulls out of it that is clogged other than that sounds like low compression sorry.
Might be a dirt dobber nest plug in the muffler.. 🐎💩🥃😎👌
@idessaoutlaw that's crazy because that's exactly what it was, my brother took one look at it and laughed because of the dirt plug in it
Hey thanks for posting this and for your generosity replying to comments, you are helping a lot of people.
I have an FS250, starts easily and runs great cold. When warm it won't idle and needs at least half throttle just to keep running or it stalls, revs fine with good power if I can keep it running. Once it stalls it won't start warm, I have to wait at least 20 minutes then it will start right up with choke. I cleaned out carb, jet looks clean, cleaning didn't fix. Any ideas? Guess I should just get a new carb and be done. Thanks for your time.
Change plug sometimes they Crack then hotter it gets worse it runs. Could be coil bad spark when hot. Make sure carb and block between carb and engine are tight.
@@smallengineguys Thanks, good advice. I had already replaced the plug and that didn't fix it. I bought a cheap coil and put that in - didn't fix it, and it possibly ran worse. But maybe for good reason as I explain below, I didn't gap it at all.
So I pulled out the spark arrestor and it ran great! Although that doesn't explain why it runs well for a few minutes until it gets hot, if it was blocked it shouldn't have revved even from cold. And - the mesh didn't look blocked...
I put the arrestor back in and - it still ran great!
Sooo I'm not sure what happened.
I went ahead put the original oem coil back in it and it still runs well.
One thing I noticed was that I didn't gap the new coil to the flywheel, so when I put the original oem coil back in I gapped both contacts to 0.012. It runs really well with plenty of power and idles well too.
Who knows... I'll see how it goes. Maybe the oem coil was out of clearance and as the engine heated up clearances opened up and spark died. Anyway, I appreciate your tips.
Your video made me to start find the problem, it didnt look so advanced. In the end it was the sparkplug that had some shenanigans, thanx
good job!
Question..I have a fs250 and the carb on it has only 1adjustment screw a d can I get a carb that has l-h settinfs
yes this carb amzn.to/3Q0vRPm
najlakši dio stavit sve novo bravo mehanik !
yep! if you try to rebuild it you waste time and there is only a 50/50 chance it will work. plus this kit has everything so its not cost effective to rebuild.
Major help! Now I know what I'm up against. Thanks for taking the time to post this video!
Its easy you got this!
Thank you for this video!! Super helpful!!
Glad it was helpful!
The hose with the filter on it is it common for it to leak where it's in the tank? I can tilt it upside down and it leaks both hoses are new. Any idea what that could be?
The rubber grommet is bad. Or your not using stihl fuel line. Its a touch thicker.
I appreciate the walk-through. I'm about to do this to mine. How difficult is it to replace the primer/purge bulb? Any tips? Mine is cracked and for sure needs replaced.
simply pry out the old with flathead screwdriver. who cares if it breaks. new on snaps in. short nipple is suction long nipple goes straight to the tank as return line.
Pls i needed help my 480 shtil air filter its got a petrol i dn't know why
Carb or fuel lines leaking. Replace them.
Good to have guys like this that SHARE info. Thanks Man..... Also, I have a Stihl FS 280 K Brush/Weed eater.... I need to replace the "FUEL LINE" it broke, how to? Any help is appreciated, I have had this machine for more than 20 years and still RUN line new. Thanks
Glad to help. I don't have an fs280 right now sorry but when I do I'll do a video.
I have a 5-7 year old FS250 bogging really bad. about to try the spark arr-ester but I might have a fuel problem. Slow to warm up even half choked. Plenty of power when warmed up but sluggish to gain RPM even with High jet full CCW. Your thoughts? Great Video !!!
Pull the muffler off. Check the cylinder for carbon build up. Check the piston. It should not have any lines cut into it. Other then that id say new carb time.
vrey good and long lasting
thanks your video
Your welcome.
very clear video, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Can u loose up the old carburetor n detect the fault for me pls gas is not going to the engine enough
not sure what your asking sorry
May be a carb adjustment. Sorry its not easy to diagnose without the machine.
Thank you, this vid will help me break the ice with maintenance. I’ll open mine and see if it’s ok
Mujhe is machine ke starting ke bare mein puchna hai

Your welcome!
Need more oil in the fuel.mixer is too thin.
i mix my gas super rich. 20 to 1. soooo.
@@smallengineguys, sorry, that was for the previous video, wear the engine was scared
@@jonathanbenoit8828 ahhh not sure what that means but ok.
Thanks man!!
You bet!
@@smallengineguys May I ask how do you set the carburetor?
@@Fifagamer915 what do you mean?
@@smallengineguys I mean the screws on the carburetor H, L and LA.
@@Fifagamer915 they should be very close to right to begin with. But if you lose your place 1 full turn from snug tight to begin with. Both sides. Idle is half way or so.
