Der CRUMAR Performer
Baujahr 1979 bis Anfang der 80er Jahre
Er ist und bleibt wohl auch weiterhin unterbewertet. Auch wenn mehrere bekannte Musiker seiner Zeit (z.B. Duran Duran) ihn verwendeten, stand der Performer immer ein wenig abseits des Rampenlichts um Jupiter und Co.
Dabei ist sein Sound sehr charakteristisch, ein wenig klingt er nach Minimoog. Ein wenig nach ARP und doch eben Crumar.
Er hat einen Oszillator für die Brass-Sektion und zwei für die Strings. Das Filter lässt sich über Attack, Decay, Range und Resonance kontrollieren. Das war es auch schon.
Aber mit dieser Ausstattung erzeugt der Crumar Perfomer einen wunderbaren, satten Sound, der zwar in Richtung Minimoog tendiert aber doch eben anders ist. Nicht schlechter, nur anders.
Dann noch die String-Sektion: Hier kann man sich zwischen zwei Registern entscheiden. Darüber hinaus kann auch hier die Hüllkurve verändert werden.
Take 7Man muss halt wissen, wo und wie man den Performer einsetzen möchte. An der richtigen Stelle ist der Sound himmlisch. Manche wagen sich sogar soweit vor, zu sagen, dass das Performer-Brass-Solo ansatzweise an den ARP 2600 herankommt.

Aber wenn man sich den Crumar-Sound einfach mal anhört und vergisst, dass man hier einen kleinen, süßen „String-Synthesizer“ vor sich hat, dann sind solche Vergleiche absolut gerechtfertigt.

It is and will probably continue to be undervalued. Even though several well-known musicians of his time (e.g. Duran Duran) used it, the performer was always a little out of the spotlight around Jupiter and Co.
Its sound is very characteristic, it sounds a bit like Minimoog. A little like ARP and yet just Crumar.

But with this equipment, the Crumar Perfomer produces a wonderful, rich sound that tends towards Minimoog but is different. Not worse, just different.
Then there is the string section: Here you can choose between two registers. In addition, the envelope curve can also be changed here.
Take 7You just have to know where and how you want to use the performer. In the right place the sound is heavenly. Some even go so far as to say that the performer brass solo comes close to the ARP 2600.
But if you just listen to the Crumar sound and forget that you're looking at a sweet little "string synthesizer", then such comparisons are absolutely justified.
