First time I saw ‘em was in March of 1989 in Buffalo NY. This was my 5th time and they’re always great live. One of my buddies has seen them over 20 time and another friend has seen them about 35 - he works for Coors in the area and always gets free promo tix for every show that comes thru.
Gotta laugh, Rob doing his crab boogie during Bell Tolls with Kirk doing a semi-Chuck Berry crouch along with him! Damn, these guys’re fun to see live.
Master of Puppets was the first album I bought to play on the turntable I got for Christmas that year. Then Kill 'Em All. Saw them live five times before the Black album. Metal for life!
Very cool. Did you get to see them with Cliff Burton? I first got into them when “One” came out on MTV. Soon after got Master of Puppets then Ride The Lightning and Kill Em All. \m/
I'm sorry I just do not like the "in the round" staging. I'm not a big fan of stadium shows either. Much prefer a mid sized theater like Hammersmith! This was so far away they looked like ants! I like to se the wall of Marshals and a drum riser behind the band with the frontman in the middle and guitars on each side. Not scattered about walking on a never ending runway. Thats just my personal preference though. As long as people enjoyed themselves all that matters
Others have said similar things about the stage setup. We were in the cheap nosebleed seats but I was fine with that. It was a last minute decision to go and I hadn’t seen them since the Black album. It was fun just to be in the open summer night air to watch my childhood idols. I agree, some of my best concert experiences have been in smaller venues with traditional stages and gear. BTW I visited your channel and it looks pretty cool. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
I completely agree, I was thinking to go to this concert to MetLife stadium to NJ. But I don’t have a car to get there from Brooklyn, I also know there were a buses from Manhattan to stadium but still It was far away from my home. Also prices were to high to see them like ants, it’s not worth it as my opinion. I remember back in the days was Metallica concert to my hometown I believe it was 1998, I wasn’t go there because prices were so high for me at that time. I went to concert to Manhattan few months ago there was Death to All I paid 60$ for ticket and I was standing by the stage during the show. I met musicians personally I took a photo with them, that’s what I like. Thank you for sharing this video.
Man I AGREE! This is over the top. I saw U2 "claw" stage and it wasn't bad. Other bands are doing this too. Ed Sheran was kinda like this, some friends went. I saw Def Leppard in the round at the L.A. forum 30 some years ago and it was good. Nothing like this. I would have to think hard about seeing someone like this.
Shows like this you end up staring at the huge video screens and thats not what I pay to see. Unless I am right up on the stage where I can see THE BAND I'm not going. I'll be damned if I pay thousands of dollars just to see somebody play music too! I would rather go down to the homeless shelter and buy everybody some clothes and groceries. I remember paying $11 for the Operation:Rock n Roll tour with Dangerous Toys,Motorhead,Metal Church,Judas Priest and Alice Cooper!!!!
Hammeredwithhorror, the ONLY reason why they do those "in the round stages", it's to make MORE money, if they do a regular staging, they'll have to close the section of the stadium behind the stage, meaning, no money grabbing in that closed section of the stadium, I also noticed in this video that the band played on one side of that circle stage, so what will happen if you're standing on the other side of that circle stage?, you will not see them at all, a complete waste of money for an expensive ticket, the only thing you will get to see it's the heads of the people that are inside that circle stage. I live in jersey, close by metlife stadium, I knew about this show for months and I wasn't interested in spending my money to go to see a band that it's a cover band aka pantera, I don't care if people get butt hurt, pantera doesn't exist NO more, I never saw metallica live in my life, I could see metallica many many times (recently), but to me the REAL metallica doesn't exist anymore after the black album, PERIOD!!!, and i don't care what anyone else will reply to me here about what I said, if you think opposite than me and enjoy watching that pantera tribute band and that metallica, good for you.
It’s maybe just my age ( passed 75 ) but I have seen the English band Muse live, and they are famous of their concerts going down in near dark, but I could see them better than I can see Metallica in this recording. Just noises in volume and nothing else. Heard garage bands sound playing in better sound quality, and I don’t even know why I’m listening to this blown up bands.
Surprisingly very good. It was loud and clear even though we were far away. The decibel warning kept going off on my watch lol. This audio and video were filmed with an iPhone.
@@KevinQ1989 I was in the same area. My decibel alert went up to 102. That’s cool you were at the first show. They played some songs that night I wanted to hear.
Theres a capacity, and when they measure how many people can be in an area... they give each person space, here... everyone is crammed together in the center. If everyone was evenly spaced, itd look full.
I was there for both shows stage level both times. The worst decision I ever made. You could not see the band unless they walked to your side. A very bad set up
Where is the guitar on the beginning of For Whom The Bell Tolls? Did they just neglect to play that part or did the PA not push the sound up into the cheap seats? That was HORRIBLE and I had to click it off.
@@007twoface You’re probably right. I recorded it on an iPhone not exactly pro level recording gear. It would be cool to hear from where you were if you have any footage.
@@alanguitars most of my videos are ruined due to my screaming lol I didn’t record any complete songs only snippets…. I was so in the moment I forgot to get my phone out most of the time….
I've seen a few versions of Metallica's show but not from floor level yet. The lead guitar is definitely missing in the upper decks. I did see the full FFDP set from floor level and that show was pretty damn good.

My first concert glad it was METALLICA
@@ddritg That will be a show to remember for sure!! I was in section 306 so we probably had the same view.
This is technically my second since I was at Day 1! I was all the way across from this video above the Verizon video board in Section 330.

I think they are better now than 30 years ago
They are not getting older their getting better !
Fun show! Thought they were better when I saw them in the same place in 2017 BUT they were still good this time!
Put the drummer on an electric drum riser and get someone to drive him around in circles
That would be cool!
Kirk did pretty good on the RTL solo
When I was a kid there were wicked mosh pits.
Mosh it up!!!
Be nice to push everyone down 30 rows since the floor is empty
I’m disappointed that you can’t here the bass intro to For whom the bell tolls 😢 maybe it might sound better in person I hope
It was hard to hear that part in person too. It’s the best part of the song.

Lars was on point both nights, as crazy as that sounds. He’s pushin 60. I was impressed.

why didnt i hear the bass on "bells"? it's like it wasnt there...

No moshpits?
There were some small mosh pits in other songs like Blackened. I posted that one.

Not a fan of this stage, a giant circle. Ehhh could be hit or miss when you’re GA
There are definitely pros and cons to this kind of set up.
They actually moved around the stage a lot I got some pretty good pics of them as they made the rounds….I was sitting lower level
Why is it so empty?
It was because of the round stage setup that the floor space looked empty. Supposedly there were 80,000 people there.
Theres a capacity, and when they measure how many people can be in an area... they give each person space, here... everyone is crammed together in the center. If everyone was evenly spaced, itd look full.

The sad thing is that those cheap seats were probably $200 plus a piece
I paid $49 a piece and recorded on an iphone.
