Please keep posting new videos its so hard finding stuff and ideas for these older quads i have one i have been rebuilding and i really like your videos so keep posting plz
Thanks Joseph. I actually lost a bunch of footage on one of my quads, but I am creating more videos right now! Videos take a lot of time to put together, but should have a video up soon! Thanks for watching, and your support.
Jeremy Pruitt I second that. I was just given a 230 from my father in law, which was given to him by his father, so I’m restoring it. He has no idea but I’m going to surprise him. So thanks x1000 for posting.
Get a fuel filter, new oil filter, fresh m/c oil, not automotive oil, watch that air filter is tight, don't run chain super loose, & warm up your ride before hammering
First I turn the gas on and let it sit for a minute, then I just kick it until it starts. It usually only takes a few kicks when it's cold. Once it's warmed up, it only takes one.
i know someone already commented about this, but what size/kind of filter did you use? so i can buy the right one at the store because its gonna take long for ebay's shipping
Hi Tommy, thanks for the reply, sorry it's late. For some reason I'm not getting those notifications. If you can't order online, I would start at your local motorcycle shop. Most if not all have a parts department and if they don't have it, they order it in regardless of make and model. I hope this helps.
Float on carbuator is sticking and flooding motor gasonline is pouring down in combustion chamber on top of piston and gas will eventually go through the piston rings and seep into the oil it happened to mine but aftet i rebuilt carbuator never had that problem again just cut fuel off you ride and youll be good
If your not sure, I would call your local bike shop and order from there. At a minimum, they should be able to give you the part number that you can use to order one online. The OEM part number for the o-ring is 09280-54001 but you will have to confirm that. They used the same one for multiple bikes and multiple years, so it should be easy to get. Here is the parts breakdown for the bike with oem part numbers. Hope this helps you out. www.partzilla.com/catalog/suzuki/atv/1985/quadsport-lt230s/oil-pump
i just paid $200 for a TL-F230 dual 2x4. Engine is strong but I'm hearing a scraping sound from the casing where the reverse lever attaches. Does this have its own oil system? If so, what is the wt, as I don't have a manual. Thanks for the help!!
Thats awesome Dale, I think you got a good deal. As far as the scraping, I suppose it could be something dragging on the inside, however Im really not sure what it could be without looking at it. I don't believe it has it's own oil system. Just go to your motorcycle dealer and get some oil and filter and give it a change. It's pretty easy to do. There are lots of online forums and resources on the internet. Check out SuzukiATVforums, Lots of good information there. Hope this helps at least a little. Thanks for watching.
As far as the year, Your 10th digit should be the year code, and I believe yours might be an 86? But you should definitely do some more research on that.
@@JDPDoingStuff, Thanks Jeremy. I am going to try adjusting the reverse lever linkage. It seems to be trying to show neutral and reverse lights at the same time. That scraping or grinding may be it trying to do both.
@@JDPDoingStuff Does the "G" at the end of the VIN stand for shaft drive or something else? Also, since mine is the dual power (2 speed) rig, is there a separate oil system for that part?
I'm not sure the size of the filter, I ordered it from ebay from a seller named Caltric. I did check and they still have some. www.ebay.com/itm/FITS-SUZUKI-LT230G-LT230S-QuadSport-1985-1986-1987-1988-OIL-FILTER-2-PACK-/291044690748?hash=item43c39d8b3c

Just picked up a 86 230 thanks for this vid dude people like you are doing good things to help out the off road community
Thanks for the kind words.
Mine leaks in all kinds of places it seems like I fix one and another shows up
It may need a gasket kit. They are pretty reasonable online, however, replacing them all is a ton of work! Good luck my friend.

How do you start your Sucuki lt 230 s quad by each step?
First I turn the gas on and let it sit for a minute, then I just kick it until it starts. It usually only takes a few kicks when it's cold. Once it's warmed up, it only takes one.
Jeremy Pruitt I’ve got a pull start on my 1990 starts first pull when cold
Cool... Mine doesn't have the pull start, just kick start. I believe the pull start was on later models as well as electric start.
I’ve got an 86 suzuki lt230s and it always starts on first kick unless it’s low temp overall I don’t think you can go wrong getting a Suzuki
i know someone already commented about this, but what size/kind of filter did you use?

Jeremy Pruitt thanks but ive already changed it lol
Awesome!
What if the oil was way over full and smells like gas?
My guess would be that the float in the carburetor is stuck open and overflowing into the crank case.
Float on carbuator is sticking and flooding motor gasonline is pouring down in combustion chamber on top of piston and gas will eventually go through the piston rings and seep into the oil it happened to mine but aftet i rebuilt carbuator never had that problem again just cut fuel off you ride and youll be good
And thats why I always turn the gas off when I'm done.

What type of O-ring is used? Don’t want to take it apart then wait to find the right o ring.
When I bought my oil filter it did not come with an o-ring
