Have two of these bikes 1990 lt230e and rebuilding 1987 lt230s engine getting crank bearing replaced overhaul and maintenance then be ready. Hopefully found plastics local tomorrow need the front mostly coming together slowly but surely 😃
My 87lt230s that i tore to bare frame, powder coated, and replace every bearing and bushing. Motor was a 1 over with a full dg exhaust. Bitch ran great until a rod bearing siezed and imploded the motor. After 3 years of collecting parts i have got the engine back in, deleted the air box, rejetted stock carb properly and my brother gifted me a twist throttle for Christmas. I must say these little 230s are so damn fun and even though I've put more money into my 230 than it'll ever be worth i can't put a price tag on the experience and memories made during its journey. Bet my 230 is faster than your 230😬🤘

One thing you didn't m3was you can use the lt250s swingarm you only gain an 1in in length and 2in in width also you can use a lt250s arms with a little trim on the arms or widened the mount and run the 250s shocks
I've seen the 250s a arm mod, and had kinda forgotten about it. They're pretty hard to find, and really throw off the front end camber is the downside.
Ya i did it to my son's 230e but we got it close and he loves it and so do i. Ive fallen in love with this quad that ive considered selling my 300ex just get a couple more there fun quads. And thank you for the info that you have put up it has definitely giving me ideas for my sons quad and what to do to another one that i will eventually get

I hope to do some more r&d with the 230 motor someday (i have a couple ideas, just several other interests that are $$$ as well lol). My buddy put a 185 Suzuki engine in his back in the early 1990s was the same bolt pattern ,do he could use it to deliver pizza in snow storms matter fact that sport bought him a new truck that winter in tips
Hi there, I was wondering if you can tell me the length of the stock axle minus the hubs? I purchased a LT230 that seems rather wide in the back compared to the front. I am trying to determine if its stock or has the LT250 axle or hubs. Any chance that you know the offset of the stock wheels? Any idea what the stock rear track should be? Thanks for your help and we've enjoyed watching your LT230 Vids.
Wow! Can't believe you guys are watching one of my videos! Made my day! Okay...so i do not have a stock axle anymore. I measured from where the hub meets the axle to the center of the rotor and sprocket and it was around 11.5" per side. Not 100% sure on the offset, but when i ordered wheels for my zilla, Dr.Q told me to get stock offset wheels and they were 3+5 on the rear, and 3+2 on the front. My march 1985 DW has the width listed as 41.7". In the same issue, the lt250r width is listed as 43.3". Hope this was of some help and i hope y'all keep watching! I have a lot of projects in the pipes and video ideas with current quads i own. Thanks for watching and making great content, yourselves!
@@6slayer6sam62 We really appreciate you putting info out there on the LT230. We purchased one to do a stock test on and want to try and get it as close to stock as possible. The back end seems a couple of inches wider per side than the front end. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Is is there any chance that you can send me a picture or 2 of where you are measuring on the axle so I can verify my measurements? You can send it to us through our Facebook page on messenger. I do not have fb..only thing i have is snap...i'll try to see if i have a 250 axle that's not being used and measure it, or if you have snap, we could probably make that work. Love the content man. I have a bone stock 230s right now and debating the full DG exhaust, I’m assuming I’ll have to jet the carb and open the air box up correct? Will those 3 things give me a little more speed? Thanks man
I don't think your overall top speed will be affected, but you will have more power. The aftermarket header's flow a lot better than the stock ones for sure. I'd say do the exhaust, jetting, and run it without the airbox lid and you'll be pleased. Thank you for watching!
@@michaeldaly9346 going smaller on your front sprocket will resort in more acceleration, but lower top speed...smaller rear=higher top speed. Tire size and weight makes a noticeable difference i've found as well.
I have a 230 quad sport i have had for 36 years now and i was wondering have you thought of upgrading the headlights to leds. Im think somewhere around 5000 lumens. I dont think it would be easy to modify the original fixture. Maybe just mount something new in its place.
Hey! Thanks for subscribing! I haven't. I'm not too sure on lighting tbh...but i know it's pretty dim compared to my lt250r. It might be something i could ponder! I've got a slideshow i made from 3wheeling mag where they do a 285 big bore stroker and have the lighting coil rewound to run an R light. It should be on my bike and quad playlist. More vids coming soon. Still got some bugs to work out and get the jetting right. Thanks again :)
@@6slayer6sam62 You're going to want to change out the regulator rectifier I think, I just swapped LED bulbs into my old 230 and it's flickery and still ties brightness to RPM's.

They're a 26 spline hub, to my knowledge, the 230's are 24, unless in 88, they also went to 26 like the lt250r's...but i cannot verify this. But! A z400 axle should fit in your 230 carrier, which would be a cheap way to widen your rear track :) then you could use the 400 hubs and a modern bolt pattern.
No but i think a lot of the parts are compatible. My buddy's neighbor wants me to rebuild his, maybe i'll have some better info if i do that. Thanks for watching and subbing!

O i'm an ebay fan so there or rocky mountain atv. They're a pretty common pad (i think the z400's still use them so you might ask your local shop as well) or rocky mtn atv. Yea you'll probably need to jet it...just look at your plug...

Not sure. Dg made (makes?) Nerfs for the 230. I have a blaster and an lt250r with nerfs, i'll try to measure them and get back to ya, but it'd probably be easier to find a dg set for the 230
@@mikedrop1519 I actually just bought a set that pretty much fit. They were on eBay and made for the trx250ex. Just need to buy u bolts to clamp to frame and get bolts that go through pegs.

What makes the 230s smoke? Had one when i was younger, lasted a week after pro rebuild before smoking again. All of them ive seen smoke like a demon.

Not sure, probably could be made to fit with some grinding if it's not exact. They're probably pretty cheap on Ebay.

If it is what i think you're talking about, there's a big clip that fits into a groove on the carrier. Then maybe some PB and a mallet lol.

Hahaha yea 2 valve 4 strokes arent exactly speed demons, but for what it is, it does okay.
