Actually amtrak runs a southwest chief train, that originates in chicago and ends in los angeles, it's over 48 hours long, but it's the only train in the US that'll take you through every kind of terrain/weather across the US in just 48 hours. It's the indian equivalent of kashmir to kanyakumari train, it's beautiful!!
As far as I know Amtrak Southwest Chief is not running now. It was a only train that passed through Kansas City. There are plans to restore that route.

The coaches are good and mostly double deckers . The seats are comfortable. Plus they have a special coach called vista dome which has glass all over and on the roof also. The seats are side facing so people can look outside scenery.

Flights are cheaper here to travel domestically. Also, it’s the size of the country that defines a country’s public transport. Example, Europe. The countries in Europe are not even half the size of a big state here. Hence, they have an amazing network of buses and trains.
Most people in America do not use Amtrak for regular commute . Mostly Amtrak rides are for pleasure, almost like vacation on the train ! I just returned from one of the longest train journey in the country! I took Amtrak California Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco! It was three days journey about 56 hours , two nights on the train ! It was a fantastic ride I enjoyed a lot specially when it goes through the Ricky mountains.
Hi Varun: Another beautiful video! Looking for ward to the complete train journey. The main reasons why trains are not popular in the US are: 1) Amtrak is relatively more expensive when compared to driving in your own car 2) Amtrak trains are quite slow and take a long time and 3) Plane tickets are quite cheap especially if booked in advance and the travel is also much lesser. That said, I would still prefer to travel by Amtrak as the seats are quite spacious and they allow 2 bags free of charge unlike the airlines that try to nickel and dime you for everything.
Tracks in America are privately owned....so preference is given to those companies owning the train and tracks. Next Goods trains are given priority so passenger trains not belonging to those tracks are put on the side.
@@cevihings True. The freight companies own most of the tracks and priority is given to moving goods. But the lack of a good train network in the US also has a lot to do with the American psyche where people would rather drive or take a flight (for longer distances) than take a train.

Very nice vlog. Just one thing i would like to add. America do have public bus transport, like metrotransit in minneapolis, miami-dade in Miami etc... not every city ( specially small) does have these buses but major cities do have.

Was happy to see this because I would like to take a vacation via Amtrak train some day. When I do, the train will be part of the vacation - not just a way to get there. Because the trains running through the interior of the country take a long time. Getting to the coast for me would be about 40 hours. One reason for this is that Amtrak owns its own tracks only on the East and West coasts. The interior routes are all owned by freight companies - and their trains go first. So there's a lot of really long freight trains and only a few Amtrak trains, and the Amtrak trains take a long time and can't keep their schedule. I've heard that Amtrak is good for going up and down the coasts, but I do want to ride a long interior route. I think I would really enjoy the simplicity of it. The long interior routes are just not considered practical. And Americans have loved going on road trips with their cars for the last hundred years. In 🇺🇸, everyone prefer drive by car or plane. In car you have luxury to stop anywhere. General here people prefer RVs for cross country travel or rent cars. We generally don't like to put miles on our cars for cross-country travel. Distance like Jammu to Kerla covered here in 16hrs by road.

I am also in New Jersey, and you will find trains mostly on the east coast only. One more thing in the USA everything is privatized. They don't even have government hospitals.

Reason why no one rides trains in the US is very simple. 1) The Automobile Industry lobby in the USA is very huge and they constantly lobby against public transportation, because of this you don't find many buses and public transport and you're eventually forced to buy or rent a car. Which explains why almost everyone in the US has a car. The public transport (somewhat efficient) is only seen in big cities like NYC but that's pretty much it. 2) The number of airlines, network of airports and number of aircrafts in the US is one of the highest in the world. You can find flights to literally from any city in the US to another city (be it direct or connecting) and it's much cheaper. So, like any logical human being, why would you take a train when you can take flight and save so much of your time. Indians and Europeans should be grateful that their govt. cares enough for the people to provide subsidised public transport (via State Road Transport Corporations as well as Passenger Railways) but yet people keep complaining all the time.
Beacause in America major section of people can afford flight or they have Car but in India major section of People rely on Train . Per Capita income is less so train is best economical transport.

That distance is at least twice of Srinagar to Kanyakumari.

It's a dream for me but with ur videos I try to feel.
Reason why no one rides trains in the US is very simple.
1) The Automobile Industry lobby in the USA is very huge and they constantly lobby against public transportation, because of this you don't find many buses and public transport and you're eventually forced to buy or rent a car. Which explains why almost everyone in the US has a car. The public transport (somewhat efficient) is only seen in big cities like NYC but that's pretty much it.
2) The number of airlines, network of airports and number of aircrafts in the US is one of the highest in the world. You can find flights to literally from any city in the US to another city (be it direct or connecting) and it's much cheaper. So, like any logical human being, why would you take a train when you can take flight and save so much of your time.
Indians and Europeans should be grateful that their govt. cares enough for the people to provide subsidised public transport (via State Road Transport Corporations as well as Passenger Railways) but yet people keep complaining all the time.

Beacause in America major section of people can afford flight or they have Car but in India major section of People rely on Train . Per Capita income is less so train is best economical transport.
