- Michael Palin’s Super 8mm film from the Python’s time writing and filming “The Life of Brian” in 1978. With
new commentary from Michael Palin himself (recorded in July 2019).
The final pre-production script for "The Life of Brian" was finished and ready to go by January 1978, but not without a couple of weeks focused writing in sunny Barbados. The Pythons
wrote for six hours a day for the two weeks they were there. The 'there' is Heron Bay, a house loaned to the group by a friend of Eric’s Michael Palin captured the fun of writing under the Caribbean sun with his trusty Super 8mm camera, which also travelled
with him to Monastir in Tunisia in 1978 for the filming of “The Life of Brian”.
Michael says of the film: "Shot rather restlessly, I was as interested in panning about in trees, along limestone walls and front gates than I was in filming the Pythons, and I
regret that". - Комедії
For Monty Python fans, this is gold.
a gold nugget from a golden chest, filled with gold.
I absolutely love it
It’s amazing I love it
YES
"OH GOOD LORD, NAKED MAN ALREADY"
UA-cam blogging before it was cool.
The Life of Brian was written by men in their underpants. Wonderful!
All of the finest comedy ever was written by men in their underpants.
How appropriate. Didn’t they have any shorts?
Many fine books have been written in underpants.
I could fall asleep to Michaels voice 🥰
Best Christmas gift since my vasectomy.
'Jaffa' in the Christmas stocking?
Thank you for this. It's a delightful little "private" film and it's nice to see that even the Pythons played up to the camera like most people do. I wonder how much more footage Michael has, maybe we'll get to see it one day.
I can watch this for hours. Best Christmas gift since my vasectomy.
I miss Monty Python so much... I came across all of the shows and movies just 5 years ago, and I still feel nostalgia at watching these clips. Nothing has come close to making me laugh as much the flying circus did.
"as I have done many times" lol
The camerawork gets remarkably better anytime Michael can be seen in the shot. Funny how that works.
And that's why Michael Palin didn't direct!
A relaxing but productive vacation, everyone clear-headed, a smooth shooting and a fantastic product in the end. I can see why the gang is so fond of Life Of Brian.
I could watch this all day. Lovely! The amateur camera work gives a nice 'real' to it. I don't mind the focus at all.
I love how we focus on the one in his underwear and then when the other gets up we see he's not wearing pants. Most entertainers have to stage something that funny.
How the hell is John's fast bowling not a meme already?
Such a fascinating look behind the scenes, as ordinary people not actors portraying their characters on the big screen. I feel the same way watching raw footage of Star Trek actors, especially the late Leonard Nimoy. Thank you so much Michael Palin/Monty Python/MP!!
Excellent water skiing ability on display Michael! Thanks for posting.
I really like these personal videos from the Monty Python players.
Barbados is one of the best places in the entire world to visit or live. Fantastic people in the 70s. It’s very expensive and commercial now. I barely recognize the place. Spent lots of time there. Christchurch and Bathsheba.
This is priceless. Thanks Mike. You were all so young
Very Much the Historical Record. That movie changed society, poking a big sharp stick in the basket of Religious Right's Raspberries , blessed are the cheese makers
This is magnificent. I adore it.
This is amazing to watch for a lifelong Python fan like myself. Thanks Michael 😉
At 06:58 a lovely thought came to me of Graham and Terry J on a heavenly beach with Graham saying something like "they told me you were here". (Not propositioning him!)
Blink and you'll miss it but it's a nice thought.
Rare footage of the Pythons "Presenting". Fascinating how much they're like us really.
Nice beach but too much water on it really
What do you call a girl just back from the beach? Sandy.
What a wonderous thing to have been a part of!
Thank you for letting us into the backstage so to speak. Also, thank you for all the fits of laughter that you and your friends gave me.
Heron Bay, the best house in the Caribbean at the time and I doubt a better one was built ever since. It's a classicist's dream out of Atlantis.
Marvelous! Lovely commentary! Thank you!
This is awesome! I love seeing footage like this especially since this has never been released to the public. Thank you for uploading this! We would love to see anymore :)
Nobody:
Palin: "oh dear what happened to my willys... you seem to disappeared"
Also... an ode to a magnificent home in Barbados 🇧🇧
This is just wonderful to watch and listen to
I've always loved Monty Python since I discovered them when I was a kid

PURE GOLD
Everyone but Micheal Palin being blurry faceless figures is just hilarious, makes me wonder who the cameraman was
Fun to see!
Great BTS/day-in-the-life look.
What a treat! Splendid.
Such a lovely footage
Beautifull!
Such joy and fun
This was lovely.
ahhh i love this!
You can't have Monty Python without Michael Palin, or M P. Then it would be Onty Ython!
Love this!!
I rediscovered my A&E dvd boxset of Monty Pythons tv show. Still so funny and refreshing to watch.
Gracias , me encanta.
Thank you from France.
Michael - I was living in Barbados this year, staying at Sandy Lane, and know this splendid house very well - perhaps the finest on the island. Sir Tree was an epic chap. A bit surprised not to have seen you blokes around out at our club (Alexandria's) in Bridgetown. Mick was there often enough. Don Fagan & Walter Becker were just up the road at Greensleeves working on the songs for the Aja album (Steely Dan) this same season. Did you ever meet them? Cheers!
Made my christmas 🥰
A lovely beach - too much water...
Y esquio en el agua nomas el'jraciao!!😄👀👍🌄🌈🌠
Good to see
A Monty Python Christmas!
The remaining four former Python members should just reconvene for a week or so at the same Caribbean villa and livestream their dining, walks, freewheeling talks, etc. Surprise (or surprised) guests would pop in. Make a bob or two out of it.
Thank You Mr. Palin, but all I got you was a view with a like. sorry.
hermoso incluso así fuera de foco
I think those apples might have caught up with Terry q-q He lasted four decades after that delicious supper. What a champ b(owo )

Third, ho yus
Monty Python. Funny. Occasionally.
Its a real shame how comedy now has to be so politically correct.
@Haze H
Political correctness: the avoidance of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.
Being ‘politically correct’ has nothing to do with political ideologies, it is about not making jokes that r seen to make fun of minorities. The example in this video is the classic ‘release Rodger’ scene which would have attracted a lot of social justice warriors complaining that it made fun of people with a speech impediment.
Haze H this guy gets it.
Political Correctness is not offending any group, race, or religion. Saying or doing anything that would offend these groups.
Haze H well, you have to replace “religion” with “christianity” in your statement. make fun of the death cult founded by a certain illiterate p3d0 warlord on your force funded tv and watch what happens
@Haze H
I don’t really understand ur point. The release of life of brian was extremely controversial, many cinemas in the uk refused to show it. Dos't really sound like the sorta thing a culture that accepts “attacking religion” would do.
Right wing understanding of political correctness? For a start political correctness is a social not economic idea so fall on the conservative- liberal axis not the right-left one. There have been many examples in recent times of comedians being criticised for joking about religion, ethnicity and race that people perceive as being offensive to some minority (ones that the criticisers rn't a part of). The attitude now is somebody somewhere MIGHT be offended so that makes the joke wrong. People don’t understand that 99.9% of people know how to take a joke and won’t be bothered by it even if it could be seen as offending them. Humans r inherently weird, so we should all be able to laugh at eachother.
I don’t know how many python productions u’ve seen, but they make a lot of jokes that r based on stereotypes. People today would just get offended ‘on behalf’ of the group being stereotyped
Coconut bread and banks beer. Eeeexcellent.
Love this!
