Sah seine Bilder damals in Wien oder wo noch mal. Schön nur wenige Werke so beeindruckend. Viel intensiver gemalt als manch andere. Er sticht real hervor, wo andere laut tönten ist er der stillere Genießer und Betrachter von Prozessen. Schön.
I do not speak a word of German ( I'm guessing there too?), but I know enough about Ferdinand Hodler, and with the few words I picked up here and there that I still got quite a bit out of it. He was Swiss I think was what I picked up. Also that he was fiercely proud of his homeland and had little urge to go and paint elsewhere. Unless I misunderstood that part. He is an artist I only recently discovered, but I am looking to learn as much as possible about and his work. He really covered so many subjects, in different styles. And the series of paintings of his beloved, dying wife are some of the most heart-wrenching pictures I have ever seen. I still don't know how he managed it. But I guess as an artist, that's all he could do - to channel his grief and sorrow into his work. I'm sure people who know there Art History well are familiar with him, but he clearly deserves more recognition than he currently has. Especially in North America. Thanks for posting this video.
