Outstanding -- just outstanding!!! There will NEVER be enough words to describe how outstanding all of daytime drama was back during this period. For anyone who was not of this time, you missed a boat load of fantastic television that I am convinced will never come around again.
I just got chills listening to this one. Of all the vocal soap themes, this has always been my favorite. This theme was also heard with original opening visuals and logo shortly after Edge moved to ABC.

Wow, this theme..gives me chills...I long for these days...such memories! Gosh, where have all the good times gone! I miss this soooo much...guess you had to have lived it to know where I'm coming from but....man, I could almost cry right now. Such a different time, a better time...
Love the vocal version. Soaps are not like this anymore. God I miss the days of good writing and great characters. All we care about are reality shows now.
Because reality shows cheaper yo make and people watch them. I for the most part can't stand reality TV shows. The only kind of watch of those like food competitions and things like that

Hmmm, unless LOL aired in your area pre December 1975 late afternoon, I don't think so. Also, EON was a live broadcast until September 1975. LOL didn't officially move to late afternoon until April 1979 - and EON had moved from CBS to ABC on 12/1/1975. In fact, both LOL and EON officially competed against each other in the same spot (4pm EST) during LOL's final months - assuming the CBS and/or ABC affiliate didn't preempt a program or show it earlier in the day on a tape delay.
This closing was from the last couple of weeks of the 'negative' skyline visual, in June 1980. All P&G soaps began implementing copyright notice for the first time on the 3rd of that month.
What gets me is that Cincinnati's skyline was more appropriate for the Monticello image than L.A. but they changed it in mid 1980 for some reason. The Los Angeles skyline is not impressive, not then or now.
muzluv33 By the Summer of 1980 Edge changed the opening from the Cincinnati skyline used from the beginning of the show to the LA skyline and the theme was changed to the "Disco Frisco" theme same lyrics but upbeat.

Corect me if I'm wrong--the guy singing here isn't the same who sang the "disco" version that came later, right. This guys voice is so perfect for this theme. Best theme!!!!
funny, i think the disco version was more jazzy but somehow still haunting with and without the vocals. it always creeped me out. loved the show. so many soaps today try to recapture that mystery angle but edge always led the pack... wish they'd bring it back, this time maybe using many relatives and friends of the original characters!
You are absolutely correct here. Everything you're saying is accurate. It wasn't until about 1979 or 80 that the LA skyline was used. By the way, I currently work in one of the buildings featured in the LA skyline visuals. It is the former Security Pacific Tower (now B of A). It's the tower you see in the foreground with the S.
Goddddddd, I wish soaps were still this good ! ! When themes were actually themes, and had a unique flavor. Not just trying to sound like the popular other soaps. Not trying to sound like a smooth jazz station, or a fast paced crime show like C.S.I. etc. I hate it that this period in broadcast history for daytime-tv is over ! ! This type of soap, and soap-theme needs to be revived. Get the paddles please ! ! Puh-leaze ! !

EDGE used this "negative" version of the Cincinnati skyline from 1976-80. Prior to this, it was the skyline segueing from day to night.
