Alright? OK! Also, words - for giggles.

Quick question: This seems to be the Dick OKane method with a tiny difference that you're setting the AOB to 90 degree instead of 103 degree(90+13=103). Shouldn't the latter AOB be more precise?

Apologies for the super delayed response, I just stumbled across it while fiddling with youtube.
It is effectively the setup and execution of the Dick O'Kane method. The particular streamer and other videos would often attribute their missed shots to being too far away, a slow torpedo or not getting the range right while using map contacts and similar mapping methods to this video. I wanted to demonstrate that was not the case.
The reason to set the AOB to 90 was to ensure the torpedo gyroangle was 0, since the target wasn't tracked, that way I could set up the deflection visually. If I were tracking the target the AOB would have been ~77 degrees (180 - 90 - 13 = 77) when firing to ensure the gyroangle to be 0 and thus a perpendicular hit.

So how come you don't move the sub up to the 3100 yard point when you get the angle for your lead?

There's no need to. Distance has no effect on the lead angle, so moving the sub up would only increase the risk of detection. That being said, if there were errors while marking down the courses they would be amplified by the increased distance. In addition, one of the purposes of this video was to demonstrate that range or torpedo speed, in of themselves, will not cause you to miss a target.

@@DarkRaven2003 oh ok, I see what you mean also because a convoy detected me when I moved up so I missed all 3 torpedoes. I'll have to try this again. Thanks for the reply.

similar triangle, 3100 by 700 or 8000 by approx 1600

Is the 3100 yard distance always the same, and it's just the speed/time aka 700 yards in 3 minutes that is the variable? Therefore affecting the periscope angle to fire at..?
