To give a bit of added context as to why that AK that Dave was talking about is worth over $400,000- in addition to the insanely rare solid blue (aka "blue gem") pattern, the stickers themselves are insanely rare for multiple reasons- 1) They're from very old "sticker capsules" that are not often sold on the marketplace anymore 2) They have a unique "holo" pattern that is often far more desired than their standard equivalents 3) They represent teams or e-sports organizations that don't exist anymore (one was a team called iBUYPOWER that was shut down for match fixing, the other is a now-defunct team called Titan). Both of these teams/orgs were also well-known for their legendary rosters and players.
Please Jonathan, break down the weapons from *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* before the remake comes out. So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher and Eva's chinese mauser clone. There are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3 so please gamespot and Johnathan make a video for the game.
I feel like the old graphics might be an obstacle? Still, it would be great if they could do it. I love MGS3 and it certainly has some very interesting weapons. Also would love to see Jonathan's reaction to that slow motion Patriot scene.

Big thank you to Dave, Jonathan, and the other people involved in making the loadout and firearms expert reacts videos. These are so entertaining and enjoyable to watch. I'm a huge gun nerd who knows a lot about guns, but I learned about the MP5 with the underbarrel grenade launcher from this series. It's insane that that's a real weapon.
On the Magshear, I remember there being a caseless electrically fired gun prototype with multiple rounds in a single barrel in a square block of barrels, I think that's what the Magshear is based on.
Yes, the Metal Storm. I was very disappointed it wasn't mentioned in the video because it was a relatively well known prototype from the turn of the millennia that fired dozens of stacked but otherwise conventional ballistic rounds via electric charges to the primers and was advertised as having no moving parts. I remember first finding out about it on a Modern Weapons feature on the History channel about 15-20 years ago.
What makes the omission even more confusing is that it was mentioned only a couple months before the Starfield video this is spliced from; in the WH40K piece.
im glad we have been blessed with this series this year. jonathan is an entertaining and sometimes even funny guy and compared to most other gun related content this is among the most ente5rtaining and informal ones at the same time while also being high quality. basically every category is just in the right range of being very good. this is probably always going to be one of the best series we are going to get on youtube.
What a great year of content! Discovering this series as been one of the highlights of 2023 for me, especially during a year with a number of personal challenges and tough spots. Tuning in to watch a new episode each Saturday, and repeatedly binging older episodes, filled many a free moment. I am at university training to be an art historian with a focus on crusader-period arms and armor. This series has expanded my interests in armor and weaponry to include firearms, and it has been a real treat to watch another scholar with the same passion for not only this topic, but also for video games and the nuances of depicting the material culture of warfare in digital environments. Jonathan, Dave, and all the community members in the comments continue to be an inspiration for me as I continue my studies. I hope to see an episode or two in 2024 covering the guns of the Assassins' Creed franchise! That franchise, especially the Ezio trilogy, is one of the biggest influences for me getting into art history, especially with its consistent recreations of the historical environments, so it would be awesome to see what Jonathan thinks about things like the hidden gun, the cannons and artillery, the flintlocks, the 18th century weapons in Syndicate, etc. Happy holidays, everyone!
Funniest thing about Jonathan…’s take on the 40K meltagun is that there’s probably a pattern of meltagun that operates via the principles he outlined. Folks tend to forget it, but there’s a lot of abstraction from the lore to the tabletop rules. Weaponry that has the same effect on the tabletop can have wildly different mechanisms in the lore, all of which are boiled down into a statline for your miniatures.
If you use the KRISS Vector in any manner other than 2-round-burst, it is absurd. However, the high rate of fire, the.45ACP chambering, and the recoil redirection mechanism -- when combined -- are a shining example of a total being greater than the sum of its parts. Also, I adore Jonathan AND Gamespot, so thank you for these. I always get excited when I see a new one in my feed. 😁 Take care, and I wish you all the best in the New Year!
I think the MagShear was based off of a concept called Metal Storm that theorized a box of tubes, each loaded with multiple projectiles that would be fired via electromagnetic pulse within each barrel. They could be fired in waves, or simultaneously. I remember seeing this on an episode of Future Weapons back almost 30 years ago. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Storm
I would love to see John comment on Star Wars: Republic Commando. I think he would have a LOT to say about the DC-17 and it’s various attachments, for better or worse!
Pushing as always for you guys to have Jonathan cover Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and to cover the M8 and MRI Caseless specifically as well. I have been posting for you to do this in every video a year back now.
Look at the guns in Enlisted. There’s a lot of guns there that aren’t in other WW2 shooters, like the Armaguerra & Volksgewehr. There’s also a lot of rare prototype weapons, like the Pavesi & AS-44.
the volkssturmgewehr has become relatively common in video games in recent years, notably battlefield 5 (which includes both the MP507 and MP508 models) and both of the last two ww2 call of duty titles have included it, but also fallout 4 and 76 in the form of the radium rifle if you wanna count that since it’s heavily based on it. Pretty sure the Armaguerra *is* unique to Enlisted though
Dear Santa, for 2024 i'd like to see Jonathan reviewing the firearms (& artillery) of "Red Orchestra 1941-1945" and/or "Red Orchestra 2". If that is out of your league Santa, then i'd just like a small beer.
Jonathan feels like that one friend you have that's really intelligent, super detail-oriented, and a bit pedantic when it comes to his area of expertise, but you just love hanging out with him because he's a bro.
Hey guys, I don’t know if anyone though of this and it is a far more modern system than they have at the royal armories, but I think that the Magshear from Starfield is actually based on the metal storm weapon system. Based on what I have seen in the game the Magshear has hundreds of rounds of ammo in each “magazine”, but at most has a couple dozen barrels. Additionally it doesn’t seem to have any moving bolt system, so it is far more like the Metal Storm System with its stacked electronically fired rounds. However it is also similar to the volley guns and super imposed black powder pistols of the 17 and 18 hundreds. Ian of Forgotten Weapons has some good videos on them for reference.
@@benhall850 Any day now, you'll walk outside. And then you see a plaque at the front of the building which reads: "This is the The Royal Armouries Museum, which houses Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery. And also a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history, but that's just incidental."
I was thinking the same thing, that Bethesda most likely got their inspiration from the Metal Storm weapons from the late 1980's, rather than something from the 1880's
Happy holidays to everyone in the crew. I follow this series every week, as every video is a highlight during my weekends! Hope to visit one of the museums in the near future. Thanks!
I always looked towards to Firearms Expert Reacts, thank you Jonathan and to the whole Royal Armories team for making my Saturday with consistent, quality content. Love you guys
I'm so happy you guys added the MP5 with grenade launcher from Half-Life in this video, that gun is iconic. Also don't forget that in the movie End of Days, Arnold Schwarzneggar had such a weapon.
I'd like a look at the guns of Metal Gear Solid 4. That game had an extended gun load out everything from handguns & assault rifles to snipers, rockets, and grenades.
For any who are curious, the effect Jonathan was describing in the Meltagun segment, about the hollow explosive penetrating armor better., is called the Munroe effect
Thank you for putting these videos together Gamespot. And thank you Jonathan for sharing your knowledge and passion for firearms with us. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, much love 🤙❤️!

Kriss Vector in Insurgency Sandstorm - One of my absolute favorite guns in real life and one of my absolute favorite FPS games. I love the M1000 in Deeprock and Magshear in Starfield too.
the "wH-aT?!?!" for the case hardened AK-skin is probably my most watched 5 seconds on UA-cam this year. you can hear how jonathan loses all (remaining) faith in humanity. hopefully the whole team can enjoy the holidays!
Echoing the sentiments of others, I'd like to cast my vote for the weapons of Valkyria Chronicles. 4, specifically, since it has a more expansive list of firearms. Codex entries are a must.
Jonathan references his book "Thorneycroft To SA80". I recently purchased this book myself and it's honestly incredible for any firearms nerds or 'gunnuts'. Highly recommended.
On the note of the Melta Gun, there is a type of explosive I saw on Futuristic Weapons or whatever that American show was called, I believe it used a cone of metal with thermite and an explosive charge, with the cone pointed inwards. The charge and thermite essentially inverts the cone outwards creating a cone of molten metal that can punch through solid metal. Edit: it is called the Krakatoa.
I loved your guys collaberation for a Christmas event with Ian, but do you think you'd ever have him be part of this series? I'd love to see how the two differ on taste
14:30 Jonathan sounds so hesitant saying "Yankee self-loader" but he has to know the level to which we've (at least northerners) have embraced the term "yankee" right?
Anyone from thousands of dollars for a transferable 'machine gun' in the US to a couple of chickens in South-East Asia (allegedly). Very supply/demand based and obviously condition, country of origin etc. The average is probably a few hundred USD.
It's very funny that you could buy several HUNDRED actual AK-47's for the price of the price of that skin they were talking about in the Counterstrike section
Ive seen another video saying Starfield's MagShear and MagStorm are based on the real world Metal Storm which is electronic multi barrel weapon. I think it holds the record for most bullets fired per second. "The only moving parts are the bullets". Personally I think its based on a mix of both. the older one Johnathan showed has a more similar loading style than the Metal Storm which is tube loaded or they swap out the barrels or something like that
For some reason, I had kind of a Green Eggs & Ham type relation with the Magshear in Starfield: it put me off for inexplicable, possibly aesthetic reasons... until I finally tried one out that I'd found in a pirate cache and _really_ liked it.
Would love to see a reaction to the realistic gun handling that Receiver 2 lets players experience. I've more than once died due to holstering or pulling out my handgun too fast, and the manual loading of magazines is oddly satisfying
Regarding the multi barreled gun from Starfield: There is another real life example of this concept. A 36 barreled gun by a company called "Metal Storm", which according to wikipedia managed to reach 1 million shots per second. It does not sustain fire though, they "only" shot 180 bullets with that speed. There are videos about it on YT aswell. It works with caseless ammo and each barrel is loaded with multiple projectiles, which are being fired electronically. "Funny" enough: the company went bankrupt in 2012, but the australian company DefendTex bought the intellectual property of Metal Storm and DefendTex is today known for making weaponized quadcopter drones. Drones that can shoot and also "kamikaze drones", which have been used in/by ukraine in the current conflict.
I imagine that on Jonathon's desk he has a nameplate that reads "Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at The Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history" and it's so comically long that half of it is just hanging off the desk.
I'd really love to hear about the highest value sold AK case hardened about the legitimacy. Like I've seen insane spikes for single transaction on some skin market record and I'm pretty certain it's due to other deals and not actually for the specific skin. Almost like laundering money. Maybe he should review Quake 1 & 2 guns if he hasn't. And I would love to see him review Perfect Dark's guns, the spiritual sequel to the classic Goldeneye. Has a couple of quite fascinating scifi guns, but also many real guns that got some nice attention, and not the most obvious choices. Its MagSec4 pistol is quite a bit similar to the Robocop gun. The M1000 classic makes me think of M39 EMR.
For 2024, id like to see jonathan review some artillery pieces in games. I know its not common hut it would he super interesting, especially since artillery is still so important to warfare.
Merry Christmas! Also I happened to have seen some actual M1 Garands doing double shots by accident due to their age. It's cool to see but a bit scary to have happen.
Happy Holidays Jonathan and Gamespot! All I want for Christmas is to know how accurate the guns of Ghosts of Tabor are to their real life counterparts :)

It's very well deserved, Anton clearly knows his stuff and works so hard to get things done right. Merry Meatmas to you!
0:38 Oh look, it's Mr. Jonathan Ferguson Wick
I'd love to know if there's been any kind of uptick in Royal Armory attendance since these series began.
As someone who works there, I have been asked more times than I can count ‘if Jonathan Ferguson is here and can I meet him’ 😂
I know I've been twice, as a direct result of learning about it from these videos
@@benhall850 Any day now, you'll walk outside. And then you see a plaque at the front of the building which reads:
"This is the The Royal Armouries Museum, which houses Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery. And also a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history, but that's just incidental."
@@Sakhmeov I would make it a life mission to visit just to see that plaque. 😂
I know that if I ever had the cash to go to England, I would love to visit the museum in Leeds. And not just to hopefully meet Johnathan. 😋
That Magshear gun from Starfield actually seems to have a system very reminiscent of the Metal Storm guns.
I was thinking the same thing, that Bethesda most likely got their inspiration from the Metal Storm weapons from the late 1980's, rather than something from the 1880's
Merry Christmas Jonathon, Dave, and the entire Gamespot team!
We can’t wait for more videos in the future. It’s a lot of fun to watch and learn
Jonathan thank you for your teachings in firearms to all of us that are new and old in the hobby of it, have a wonderful Christmas and new years!
Happy holidays to everyone in the crew. I follow this series every week, as every video is a highlight during my weekends! Hope to visit one of the museums in the near future. Thanks!
Thank you for another year Jonathan and Dave please keep them coming!
Thanks too all involved Dave for recording the footage and the editors.
I always looked towards to Firearms Expert Reacts, thank you Jonathan and to the whole Royal Armories team for making my Saturday with consistent, quality content. Love you guys
I was waiting on this video, love the content !
Once again an amazing video with Jonathan and Dave
Thank you for putting these videos together Gamespot. And thank you Jonathan for sharing your knowledge and passion for firearms with us. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, much love 🤙❤️!
Merry Christmas Johnathan Furgeson !! I hope Santa leaves you emotional support MP5s in every variant under your tree. 🎅🏻
Im glad that Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at The Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history is wearing acdc shirt
Happy holidays Jonatham Ferguson, keeper of firearms & artillery at the royal armouries museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons throughout history.
This is literally the only sort of GameSpot content I watch. Love it!
Kriss Vector in Insurgency Sandstorm - One of my absolute favorite guns in real life and one of my absolute favorite FPS games. I love the M1000 in Deeprock and Magshear in Starfield too.
That's amazing a case hardened plastic magazine
He should have been the guy who gives guns in john wick 2
Pretty sure the MAGSHEAR is referencing the Metal storm concept. That old big box that can shoot 1 million rpm.
That real MP5 w launcher was so badass to see here. I just loved to play Half-Life. One of my all-time favorite games..
Carry on.
the "wH-aT?!?!" for the case hardened AK-skin is probably my most watched 5 seconds on UA-cam this year. you can hear how jonathan loses all (remaining) faith in humanity.
hopefully the whole team can enjoy the holidays!
Echoing the sentiments of others, I'd like to cast my vote for the weapons of Valkyria Chronicles. 4, specifically, since it has a more expansive list of firearms. Codex entries are a must.
I always look forward to these at the end of the year
I believe that the Magshear is based off the now defunct Metal Storm weapon system.
Let's see some Postal 2 weapons in 2024!
All two of them.
Arnold Schwarzenegger uses an mp5 with underbarrel grenade launcher to fight the devil in End of Days
He was performances too. What a Olympic champ 🏆
Never seen the DRG episode but hearing they got the ability to make the YSL automatic again fills me with so much joy.
Happy Holidays Jonathan! Here's to next year!
I loved your guys collaberation for a Christmas event with Ian, but do you think you'd ever have him be part of this series? I'd love to see how the two differ on taste
I swear to god for the last year i thought this was the same video in my reccomandations buts apparently this is a series
14:30 Jonathan sounds so hesitant saying "Yankee self-loader" but he has to know the level to which we've (at least northerners) have embraced the term "yankee" right?
I'm absolutely dumbfounded that a virtual AK has been sold for $400k.
How much does an actual AKM cost anyway?
Also, Happy Holidays Jonathan and crew!
Speculative resale markets gonna stack rarity modifiers to absurdity every time, my friend. A hard learned lesson from tcgs.
Anyone from thousands of dollars for a transferable 'machine gun' in the US to a couple of chickens in South-East Asia (allegedly). Very supply/demand based and obviously condition, country of origin etc. The average is probably a few hundred USD.
i like the clips where dave chips in. gives it a sort of podcast kinda feel
Personally I think its based on a mix of both. the older one Johnathan showed has a more similar loading style than the Metal Storm which is tube loaded or they swap out the barrels or something like that
Merry Christmas to all
A bit of shame you didn't make the comparison of the Magshear to Metal Storm.
The Magshear from Starfield looks to be based very closely on Metal Storm. Stacked projectiles fired electonically.
When Jürgen fires the Melta, Cain often describes it as uncomfortably bright even through tightly closed eyelids.
The MP5 did also have a version of the M203 made for it, too... thoughbI've not seen much about it dave for a few photos.
I know it's probably late but I would love to see Jonathan review some Remnant 2 weapons! Merry Xmas to all!
I was so happy when I saw that the HL Mp5 is actually real(not exactly the same but it's one with a grenade launcher nonetheless)
Think seeing a KillZone franchise break down would dope to see sense there hasn't been any games for KillZone made in awhile now.
I like these because it feels like they've become buddies
This reminds me, im long overdue a trip to the armouries
Jonathan Ferguson I presume you are aware of the metal storm weapon systems, referring to the Magshear in Starfield. If not then look it up.
love this stuff thanks very much guys
For 2024, id like to see jonathan review some artillery pieces in games. I know its not common hut it would he super interesting, especially since artillery is still so important to warfare.
Hey Jonathan, I don’t know if this was done yet but I would love to see you look at Enlisted’s weaponry. Thanks a lot
Merry Christmas! Also I happened to have seen some actual M1 Garands doing double shots by accident due to their age. It's cool to see but a bit scary to have happen.
SOLDIER OF FORTUNE! SOLDIER OF FORTUNE! SOLDIER OF FORTUNE!
Hey ive been here months 😂 get in line mate
6:25 OVER 6000 PLN ? You can get a very good mind tier gaming PC for that, or even high tire if you're lucky
Merry Christmas!!!
13:00 ROCK AND STONE!
Happy Holidays Jonathan and Gamespot! All I want for Christmas is to know how accurate the guns of Ghosts of Tabor are to their real life counterparts :)
Interstellar craft can be thought of as a trap (for a few) when pen’d in specific ways.
I like that they put their faces on the task force 141 picture
Placing a mine on a drone in the game is a very battlefield thing to do, but was being done in a non-battlefield game, lol.
