  • This video, originally filmed for my Whitewater Master Class offered each August, introduces the concepts of effective posture for kayaking and how posture affects both your mindset and your paddling skill.
I also break down the parts of a stroke in CPR: Catch, Propulsion and Release.
And then talk about CPR for the following strokes: Forward stroke, forward and reverse sweeps, and the stern draw (one of the most important strokes for your skill).

Thanks for the video. I really like your point about the anterior tilting of the pelvis. I just got my second kayak and it does not have much hip support. My lower back was hurting after paddling four times. I think it is because my pelvis was tilted backwards a little bit. I just bought some custom padding to add to my hip and butt/ back area. I think this will promote a slight anterior tilt and get rid of the slight lower back tension. I also liked the point about moving the boat with your paddle rather than just waving your paddle around in the water or moving just paddle. My kids kayak on flat water but not white water yet. I think the points about posture and mindset will be helpful someday when teaching them
