  • Ride along as I spread a load of fertiliser on coastal farmland, New Zealand. I'll talk things through as I go.
    The aircraft is Cresco with 1800kgs of fertiliser on board.
    -The clicker I talk about is the load counter.
    -If the aircraft didn't have a hydraulic hopper I would be holding the handle shut while the load is tipped in, if it's too fast it can blow the doors open.
    -Block planning on hill country can be quite a headache, especially if you get it wrong! The general idea, and what I have done on this video, is to split the block into two runs. The first done on the low lands and the second, once the aircraft is lighter, faster, and more maneuverable, done up high.
    Enjoy!

    Excellent walk through. For other pilots: Note how he achieves steep turns by trading speed and altitude for turn radius. The steepness is achieved by a hell of a roll but note that the wings are unloaded for the steepest part of the turn which is why it is possible without stalling the aircraft, as the trade off is loss of height rather than the same height at a high AoA. Excellent piloting and also note stick is back in his lap on touchdown. A lot of skills there!

    I wish I had seen this video like 30 years ago - my life would have been completely different - I would have dedicated my life to doing this for a living. Put simply this is f#@king amazing!!! Thanks for the video (at least I can live vicariously through this). As a glider pilot, I truly appreciate the sharp turns, great visibility, land uphill with a tail wind, but make sure you have a down hill and head wind when taking off with that load.

      @@JimboBurgess Can understand this with the aircraft becoming a thoroughly well-known reliable and trusted 'friend', even so it would take courage to do this type of flying. Flew 100's of hours as a boy next to my father much of it in C180 BUF (AkldAeroClub weekend CPL ex-WW11 B24 pilot) and he was always '100% working' with short and grass strip landings let alone sealed runways. He let me 'fly' straight and level to compass headings, steady attitude and altitude, but never landings . .

    Amazing video. Though i wanna ask 2 things
    1. Why does the pilot sit on the right side? Is it for convinence or its a design feature of this aircraft?
    2. Why does the pilot require a full helmet rather than just a headset?
    I have a curious mind, hope you don't mind answering it 😅

    • @JimboBurgess
      @JimboBurgess  4 роки тому +2

      Cheers! Great questions, keep em coming 😁 We sit in the right seat because the controls are in a natural position. Joystick RH, power and hopper control LH. This is a dual control version, in singles the pilot's setup is on the LH side. Helmets are a safety measure and in most cases a requirement for insurance.

    02:58 That is a Teardrop Turnback you are doing. But.. i think it could be safer if you extend the first leg a bit further so you dont have to do the second leg at 90 degree bank steep. AS a CFI of Bush Pilots, I taught them on GRM and EFATO. Turnback errors are the main cause of Crop Dusters stalls and fatal crashes.. Cheers from Pennsylvania USA.
