An Ag aircraft nearly hits a truck! We have a look at what really happened here. Is this a normal scenario, or a one-off. Ag flying is an active and multifaceted environment. It involves more than just maneuvering an aircraft; it's a complex juggling act of technology, environmental analysis, and real-time decision-making. Pilots must navigate varying terrains, operate sophisticated machinery s...

That incident was a little too close, never mind the camera angles etc, it was just way too close! If the pilot could see the truck before his swath he was trying to race it, if he saw it halfway through he should have taken avoidant action. If it wasnt seen till the very last moment he was just damn lucky! Good vlog, I was wondering what happened to your vids!

Good video Jim. All I ever wanted to do as a kid was fly a topdresser. I had zero support and by the time I learnt to fly life got in the way. I did drive the loader back in 95 here in Taranaki. The work was patchy and I just couldn't earn enough to fly and do that. In the end I gave up and went back building which I fucken hated! But while building a hanger for Matt Newton I decided to fly helicopters. I brought a business in Wellington that earnt me some good money and was learning in Masterton before they went broke and I lost about 10k. Good for you getting in that seat I know well the sacrifices you have made to do it. I've told my 2 boys whatever the hell they want to do I'll support them 100% with it. I don't want them to watch someone else flying on YT thinking what if. My youngest wants to fly helicopters and so that's exactly what he will do.

Ag-flying taught me my respect for general aviation. During the period of '61 to '63 as a small curious early primary school lad hanging around the Ardmore hangars while my father was busy on often daylong commercial flying with the Club's then sole C180 'BUF' the flying 'hot-rod' that in those long lonely hours spent wandering around waiting for him to return that i made the chance acquaintence of a very shy quiet young man, owner of the only other 180 on the field. He was just establishing himself with it in agricultural operations on his own behalf. The registration i do not remember, but i do recall it was fully painted all over in cream with broad pale light green trimming strakes, unlike the standard factory red, silver, and black presentation of the Club's 180. Some fairly short time later my father said to me.. 'You're not going to be seeing that other 180 again..' That was devastating to me as i knew instinctively what he was telling me. As a child that was emotionally impactful and I have never forgotten that wrenching in the gut and silent tearing. It returned one Sunday mid-afternoon in late May 1969 when a policeman came to the door of the house to speak to my mother. Again ten years later, late one November evening, my aunt and her daughter my cousin, did not return from the special once in a lifetime 21st birthday gift flight to Erebus.

@@JimboBurgess Can understand this with the aircraft becoming a thoroughly well-known reliable and trusted 'friend', even so it would take courage to do this type of flying. Flew 100's of hours as a boy next to my father much of it in C180 BUF (AkldAeroClub weekend CPL ex-WW11 B24 pilot) and he was always '100% working' with short and grass strip landings let alone sealed runways. He let me 'fly' straight and level to compass headings, steady attitude and altitude, but never landings . .

Thanks Jimbo. Could watch it all day. Does the air tractor fly flat enough where you have good view of terrain immediately in front? the camera angle makes it look a lot more obscured out front there, adds to the pucker factor a bit. Looks like beautiful undulating countryside to fly around there.

The flight panel is so clean on that aircraft...it's so clear of clutter. Maybe it's the white coloring of the panel that makes it look so clear and easy to read and distinguish the gauges.
