- Placebo perform 'Nancy Boy' and 'Teenage Angst' on seminal 90s Channel 4 show The White Room in 1996.
Mark Radcliffe: 'Have a look at the singer, is it a bloke or is it a girl? I'll give you a clue, his name's Brian'.
I was there!, I can see myelf at 5.19 standing at the front just to the left of Stefan wearing a white T shirt, black skirt, black hair and the strap of my bag is across my chest diagonaly. I knew them a little bit back then and Brian was always so sweet and polite and Stefan so quiet. Lovely boys.
Amazing! I'm into these early performances from Placebo, when they used to play as a raw 3-piece and Brian's main guitar was his Fender Jaguar. Not that I don't like the newer Placebo setup with more musicians, but a 3-piece has to work much harder, and it really shows how good they are as musicians.
Is that not including the keyboard player at the back? :-)
"Hand picked by David Bowie"... I know Brian and the Placebo guys must be more heartbroken than the rest of us are over Bowie's passing.

@MissSharper I haven't seen the guys since I went to a sound-check at Concorde 2 in Brighton U.K. eight years ago. I was very pregnant at the time and Stefan's drums were making my baby kick! My husband to be introduced them on stage that night and I gave birth, full-term, just two days later. Due to the lifestyle change that motherhood brings, I've lost touch and don't know their new stuff, but I wish them well, they really are fabulous people. Brian's face-to-face presence was electric.
I think(( Baby Brian))'s adorable here! I don't think he's not high-he's very young and nervous. But the passion and ambition is all there. 5-5 ~~Am so glad to see 'em live finally this autumn :D
amazing! i love them now just like i loved them at the beginning of their career, i don't know why people say they were better than today. maybe love has made me blind, or maybe they were and always will be awesome!
Gotta love the little look Brian gives Robert when he comes in too early at the beginning of Nancy 😂
Christ I wish they'd release the series on DVD. Remember seeing so many great performances and new bands, at the time...
I saw them at The White Room in 1996 and I was in awe!! Still their best song.
love it
he was so gorgeous
Is
So good and such a great show. Bring back the white room
Just re-read my post...just to clarify that it wasn't Stefan's drumming that made me go into labour! ha ha ha, I wasn't in the main room due to the noise and I didn't stay for the gig due to my huge condition. My favourite gig was at the olympic stadium in Barcelona when they supported U2. Must have been at least ten years ago. My fiance sprung flights and back-stage passes on me as a surprise and we had such an amazing time. Back-stage was chaotic, crazy and as wild as you can imagine.
How time flies. I just looked it up out of curiosity and the Barcelona gig I was referring to was on 13th September 1997. It was a birthday present as my birthday is the 14th.
Their first album is the only one I bought on import from Virgin Megastore, £15.99 in 1996 when I was still in school ... them, Suede and Pulp drove that year for me :)
I'm compltely in love with their old songs...especially with nancy boy...now they are great...ovviously...they ar my favourite band...but...I prefere their ambiguos beginning...Brian was so cute, and when I sang he conveyed pure energy...in this video he was so young but he was fucking awesome as always!!!
he was wonderful.......
I remember this!
i love this performance, and i
Darn! I miss nancyboy girl/boy brian :/
xx
Just incase anyone's confused, Stefan WAS drumming, but only at the sound-check.
*drooooools*
Oh but his voice was so adorable back then. Not that it isn't now, but I prefer squeaky girly angry teenageangsty Bri from omg more than 10 years ago.
@aharz1 I've just come across this video. I was at that White Room filming too and just saw myself at 1:10 - that's so funny!
Luxembourg and Sweden? I bet Brian was just shaking his head... lol x
i love youtube, was just thinking about the first time i ever heard placebo,,and here it is, i was 16, not a good age to question your own sexuality, :)
he looks so sweet.... :)
I would hate having a father like him
Did the drums come in too early at the start? Brian looked like he thought so too.
@lustfullaura yeaaaah, i definitely agree with you!
i love every style they ever had, but nancy boy era was fuckin´ amazing
actualy no mines all the way up but i can barely hear it so...yeah....
Briana miss me...
@lustfullaura

brian is so small
the crowd look a bit shocked
villaparis2 Androgeny wasn't really a thing, in the 1990s. Even Bowie was considered too much 😂👍 The world has changed a lot
@@chrispalin4043 Kurt Cobain wearing a dress at one of the biggest concerts of the 90s at Reading 1992? Suede? Early Manic Street Preachers? Pulp? Placebo?
They don't have any other songs? 😒
Elal ו you have to be fucking joking...
the audio for this is awful :(
its a shame,
but hes too pretty for me not to watch this
He doesn't! He is all gay! Said so himself in the Paris-Concert-DVD.
Brian's adorable. What a beautiful/incredible voice. The guy that introduced him was a di**.
How rude to have someone on your show and insult them before they even perform.
Guess he thought he was "clever".
They don't even know how to pronounce that (in teenage sweat'panic)
is Placebo trip-hop?
I'd have rather pumped their bass player to be honest. such arian features! *blink*
I'm sorry but this🐤really has some hands problem with his guitar well at least it's not jewelry for him like for c. love hanging on the neck only to look good
A fender jaguar is as heavy as a baby hippo.....
not a very good drummer
